That tumbler you have sitting on the trailer......no problem. Just be sure to add some weight to the rear of the tractor before attempting to lift it.

When you use the loader for heavy work, you're going to want some ballast weight on the rear hitch. If you have a tiller for your tractor, that would work well. If you don't have a heavy implement, you can always hang some weights on a three-point drawbar, or even sling some weights under a cultivator.

Being that you have an old tractor sitting around, it might be possible that you also have some front weights for it. If not, you can always run a spare drawbar through a metal bucket, and then fill the bucket with concrete.

You'll find that by using a little rear ballast (300-400 pounds), your tractor and loader will be much more stable on its feet, as well as increasing the tractor's performance substantially.

Congratulations on the new tractor. You'll be amazed at the number of chores you dream up for it.

And if you're looking for implements, try searching through your local farm auctions. Most used implements can be found in good to nearly new condition, but sell for about half the price of new.

Please be more careful and get some help next time. I am in the same boat as you in that respect, sometimes the girls just are not around to help me out and I go into some seriously remote places so I go out on my own but I keep the cell phone, the .45, and my Celox first aid kit REAL close. Life is so precious and can be gone in the blink of an eye. I'm sure you know that especially now.

I bought and mounted a Farmtrac RTM 60 tiller on my BX 23. When I raise the 3 pt. hitch it only lifts it off the ground about an inch before topping out. Is there anyway I can lift the tiller higher?

An option to the pallet mover is the old style at least here were called snaking tongs. They work the same but have points on them to pinch into a log as pulled. You might find them locally cheap. You could weld on something over the point if you needed to. kt

My guess is something rather simple. Get it clean where you don't have trash drop in the transmission and pull your plate as Joel suggested. Quick question first, have you checked the oil in the transmission? It may be contaminated with water and has allowed rust to build up. If you find water in it, you may wish to drain and replace and run it some first to see if that happens to be the problem and solution. If you have not already, check and if there is filter be sure to change it. If you have just gotten the tractor you should change all fluids and filters to have a base point to work from. kt

I suspect that by "core plug" they mean frost plug.

Older hydraulic system don't like to sit for long periods without use, the old seals get brittle really fast when they're allowed to dry out.

I doubt it would take much of a leak(s) to disable the poor old girl.

If I might offer one bit of advice........

If you have any trees to mow around, a folding ROPS is a very nice feature. My Kubota doesn't have a folding roll over protection system, which makes it very difficult to mow around the younger trees.

If and when I decide to get another tractor, I'll be looking for one with the folding ROPS. However, it will be very difficult for me to part company with my little Kubota B2100. What a fantastic little machine.

On second thought......Maybe I'll just get myself a riding lawn mower, and keep the B2100 for the garden work.

Most of the Shibaura tractors for sale in the U.S. are "grey market" tractors. This means that they are not supported by any dealer networks in the U.S., because they were never meant to be sold in the United States.

If the tractor you're looking at doesn't have a factory Roll Over Protection System (ROPS), it is likely an imported tractor, meant for sale in a foreign country. Parts availability will be a HUGE issue for you.

If the tractor you're looking at doesn't have a seatbelt, flashing lights, a slow moving vehicle sign on the rear, or a roll over protection system......chances are you'll have a very hard time finding a manual for it printed in English.

I find nothing on the SD1740 at tractordata.com, and I see none for sale at tractorhouse.com. If I were you, I'd steer clear of this one.

I've heard only one report of a broken axle housing on a Kubota B-Series tractor, and it was due to operator abuse.

The guy was cultivating near a slough, when he buried his tractor up to the axles. The cultivator was in the way, which made it impossible to hook a chain to the tractor's hitch. So.....the guy hooked the chain on the tractor's axle. Bad idea.

You don't have to tell us exactly what you did to break the axle housing, but it would be nice if you'd own up to the fact that it was due to operator error. Fair enough?

I just added pallet forks to work off the rear 3pt hitch. They cost 280 or so and i use them to move pallets full of firewood. think 1/3 to 1/2 chord at a time. They are great and not that expensive. They have saved me time not having to pick up firewood 3 or more times each pc and like you said.....saves my back.

There was a lawsuit over Castrol's use of the word "synthetic" when they first came out with their Syntec line of oil.

The basis of the suit was (from what I've read) that the base oil used to make Syntec was not a 'true synthetic' (group IV or V) base stock, but a super-refined Group III (dino) oil.

Castrol won in court on the basis that the word synthetic has an accepted meaning, that is, that it was made up of something else, and that their product fit that bill.

From a purely engineering point of view, the whole point of running a synthetic oil is to get rid of the impurities that naturally occur in oil. As long as that is accomplished, it doesn't really matter how. Castrol's process also resulted in a lower cost of production, and therefore sold for less too. I suspect that was a big part of the reason for the lawsuit. Competition.

If I remember correctly, your sub-compact tractor FEL is rated to lift about 500 pounds.

Your neighbors machine is rated for 800+ pounds.

That's the difference, I think.

Thanks Murf! We are not online with the Kubota's yet although we do have the CASE-IH and New holland brands up.

We do have some excellent staff on the phones in the parts dept and we ship a lot of parts do to our inventories.

Yyour ideas are sound ones, but the real world is that the Mrs. and I are both handicapped to the extent that entry and exit from any domestic sedan we tried was difficult at best, the flat floor of a pickup or SUV are SOOO much easier for us to get in and out. <br>

We had an 02 Chevy Venture for a family car that the Mrs. really liked with an nice flat floor, their automatic, (when it worked) rear wheel assist, but the engine bit the big one to the extent that repair was just not an economic optiion so the search for another 4 WD mini-van was on. <br>

We really do need the 4 WD, steep north slope drive, ICE, ICE, ICE. At that time (Jan 07) no body built a domestic 4 WD mini-van, so we bought an 07 Chevy Trailblazer 4 WD. It has an nice flat floor entry, kinda big enough for me, handles nice, so-so mileage, but the little Mrs. loves it, so end of that story. <br>

Now the pickup thing, we test drove the Silverado four door and then a Colorado four door. As someone else here mentioned, we are just plain spoiled by having the nice big roomy pickups and full size SUV's, the Colorado was a nice little pickup, but kinda scrunchy for a robust fellow like me. <br>

You mentioned your gal not being comfortable wheeling your big dually around the supermarket parking lot, same here, the Mrs. just isn't comfortable with driving a full size anything, but I am , so there you go. The underlying message I'm getting for the dealer is that he wants my pickup worse than I want his. In todays times I think a year old low dollar pickup would be lots easier for him to sell than the big high dollar four door. <br>
