Just for my understanding, I am kinda foggy and rusty on the Rusky tractors. As I recall, some the these tractor were air cooled weren't they? For some reason I was thinking the 250, 420, and maybe a few others were air cooled? If so, might be a really good reason to fix those leaks to prevent the possibility of a fire under hot weather conditions.

It's not difficult to repair this. I'd do it for you at no charge, if I were close by.

Take your radiator to any good radiator repair shop. They'll be able to either solder or braze the fitting back in place for you. Your cost would be less than 100 dollars.

The cost for the repair will more than pay for itself when it comes time to trade it off, or when selling it to another party.

Wally, I don't know what part of the island you're on, but every part of it I've seen has as much rock as soil under the grass.

If your place is like that then forget about pushing them in with the tractor, they will just fold when you hit a rock.

Harvey has the right idea. Get a slide hammer type of pipe setup and a strong young kid to swing it.

I've made scads of them over the years, just take 2' of heavy wall pipe a little larger than the size of posts you plan on using and weld a piece of heavy plate over one end as a cap and a long 'U' shaped handle down each side. Slide it over the end of the post and by hoisting it up and slamming it down the posts go in real easy.

$I agree whole-heartedly with Art, the paper on a tractor doesn't tell even a fraction of the story!!! When I moved from 'farming' to 'contracting' some 20+ years ago, I had several tractors of different brands. It didn't take too many years to figure out which brand did the best job, at the best (overall) price, and with the best dependability. There is a reason there's only one colour visible in my picture # 6, for what I do, it's the best choice. Best of luck.$ Kubota vs Case

Guess I will be the contrarion concerning the trade. Being a Counselor that happens to be a Kubota loyalist. First, you will probably lose some money but money isn't everything. Good wife that might help you mow is worth more than money. I started my Kubota world 4 years ago with a BX2200, MMM and FEL. Traded up a year later to a B7800, 6'RFM, FEL. Wife thought the B to big so I bought a BX1500 54"MMM for her. She hasn't actually used it much though so don't be surprised if she still doesn't help mow. 3 years later traded B7800 to a L3240 6' RFM FEL (MORE POWER). As suggested the 0% interest that Kubota keeps offering really hurts trading/selling a used piece of equipment but if you purchase another new piece of equipment with the 0% that helps you offset that somewhat. The BX's are lower to the ground but really strong small tractors that mow. If you have other implements, you may have to sell or trade them or get the strongest BX so ask here if or which BX will handle your extra implements. Next, if you believe you see no future need for higher ground clearance and needing to do things a bit faster then proceed to find the tractor (probably a BX)that will suit your needs. Another thought for me is why only 50 hours in 2 years. If the B's size restricts usage then get one you will use. Also, fight your Tim the Toolman mentality of MORE POWER (I usually lose that one myself as my stable of Kubotas reflect). I will confess that I want to get on my L3240 with FEL and 6' RFM and "DO IT" but I mostly get on the BX because it is so easy to manuver, get in and out and mow with. You can look on web sites or ebay that sell used equipment to see asking/selling prices or ask about a trade. One I know and use is Barlow Tractor sales who has a sponsering ad on this forum. Finally, if you do trade down to a smaller tractor and decide you now or always needed a bigger tractor you can feel more comfortable trading back up having personal experience with the different sizes. Kubota will offer the 0% to lower interest again. Again, keep the good little woman and trade the steel/plastic/fluids/rubber if you think a smaller tractor will cause you to put more hours on it. But, STAY ORANGE!! :);)

KT; That is great advice on keeping a journal of ANYTHING you do pretaining to raising a crop. For eaxample when spraying a pesticide, record tempreature, wind speed, wind diredtion, humidity, and of course rate of application. The Mrs. and I grew 46 crops and always recorded all that sort of thing, it would come in handy more times than you'd think. We finally threw most of that stuff away a couple years after we retired, but did pass any of it that would help our tennant on to him.

Sometimes I am a sucker for bargains and last fall I bought a used Yan-Mar grey market rototiller. It's a big tiller, between 5 and 6 feet wide. It's also kind of neat because the instructions are all on decals on the tiller and all in Japanese. But, each instruction has a little diagram and you do not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to operate a rototiller.<br>

If you have never mounted one, they are designed to mount up very close to the rear wheels. It's the shortest PTO shaft that I have ever cut to fit.<br>

Now I understand how the Japanese use these compact tractors in Japan. I got rave reviews from my wife and daughter after I prepared the vegetable garden this year. No plowing and then renting a portable rototiller for $35.00 - this thing did it all and left a seed bed that just had to be raked smooth. I also just used it to till about 2 or 3 acres of bottomland that we cleared out last fall with a dozer. I almost got stuck a couple of times with the 'bota in 4WD and the tiller roaring but just letting up a bit on the tiller was all it took. I may just go back lightly with a York rake and then will ready for seed.<br>

I am seeing some pretty attractive prices for new tillers on the web. If I had it to do over again I might go the whole 9 yards and buy a new one rather than the rather beat up and rusty one that I got. But, it still works fine.<br>

You'll be very happy with the turf tires. I've got them on my B2100 and they never harm the lawn even during the wet, Spring months.

The difference between the two tire types is very noticeable. You've made a good investment.

Unfortunately it seems like a lot of things are doing that recently. I remember griping like hell about paying $2.78 a gallon for off road diesel a few months back and now those were the good ol'e days. :-(

I bought a 2007 Highlander Hybrid. It gets around 27 mpg. The only complaint that I have is the lack of gears. I tow a 1,100 lb trailer and when it is loaded to max (3500 lbs) I have difficulty going up my hilly drive at low speeds. I don't recommend it as a tow vehicle if you have over 2500 lbs. Towing mpg is around 17 mpg. Other than that I think that it is great. I bought it to replace a truck, but it doesn't. I bought a 2008 Tundra and love it.

Some of those reasons I'm not sure about.

1) NH offers a collection system for the rear discharge 914A deck, in fact I understand the collection system also allows you to choose between rear & side discharge or collection,

2) I don't know about this, it doesn't on ours,

3) Agreed,

4) With mulching blades you get the same effect on the first pass, no subsequent passes required.

Good to see you posting again, Randy :) A recent post mentioned that the cast iron axle housing of their orange tractor had broken. There aren't too many posts about broken axle housings, iron or aluminum, but at times people expect too much from these small machines. There are guys that would mount a 1" drive socket with adapters on a 3/8" drive ratchet, pull for all they're worth and complain when it breaks.

Finally got my machine back after 2 weeks in the shop. They replaced 2 seals in the left front axle gear box. I can't believe how long it actually takes to get something fixed and get parts, 2 weeks. I order things all day long by 5pm and get them tomorrow. I think i can get my car fixed most places in a day or two anywhere. The repair was billed at 3 hours work at 72hr pickup/delivery was 85 and parts seals and sleeves 45. total about $260 covered by warranty.
They covered the pickup and delivery this time. It cost me $120 to have my 5 acres mowed had no idea when i was getting machine back,they dropped the pickup/delivery.

I am looking at a B-20 4WD Hydrostatic with loader. It has 511 hrs. and owner is asking $7500. Two questions: is this a quick attach loader? and second: is this a fair price.<br>

Dave, I hope some with much more experience than me chimes in on this and it not repost asking the fuel use question.

Joel, if I understand you, the fuel filter will remove any contamination. The issues as I understand are first is there any problem with the fuel and then if there is just how often the fuel filter (which will remove them) has to be replaced. Correct?

So it may be one or two pump filters might solve the problem. Or you may need one every few gallons, correct?

Is there nothing than can be added after contamination to remove the fungus/bacteria where the fuel is useable? Very much understand this is why most here recommend adding fuel conditioner when you fill tanks.

Dave, if it turns out there is no reasonable way to filter the fuel, provided it is contaminated, then you may wish to consider other possible uses: there are heaters that will use it and not damage, it is used with certain chemicals for brush control (spray nozzles there also but different cost issue). Believe you are where you need to check the fuel and see the real condition it is in. kt
