I will try the full tank this weekend.

As far as the needle valve, will the B & S manual show how to clean it? I have never taken this kind of carburetor apart before but do not suspect that it will be difficult.

I am looking at a 2006 L2800 HST with a quick disconnect bucket, pallet forks, frame mounted quick disconnect backhoe w/manual thumb and a 4-pt to 3-pt adapter. Machine has 42 hours. Seller is asking $19,000. Deal or no deal?

You should probably verify this with your CNH dealer. They may be able to provide you with a rebuild as opposed to a new pump which will be more expensive.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Points 1-2-3 of my original post relate to a section in the Operators Manual for the 250. A no start and fuel problems can sometimes be overcome by doing simple cleaning at these locations. Your point about puting a few squirts in the air intake is my next plan. Right now its get the loader off to access the top of the motor. I'll keep you posted.

From my experience in logging from what I have seen, it is not so much throwing safety and caution to the wind but more about "gettin' R done". The overhead costs for loggers are tremendous. Add to this that this line of work is extremely dangerous and injury prone and you will better understand why and how these guy operate.

The days of logging crews like you see on this TV show are numbered. When you figure in the cost of workers compensation insurance as compared to a feller buncher and a skidder/forwarder crew; logging is becoming more and more mechanized and computerized. A feller buncher, skidder or forwarder does not have drinking or domestic problems at home and if maintained properly is always ready to go to work on time and easily do the work of 20 or more experienced men.

Another aspect of logging whose days are also numbered is the practice of leaving a substantial amount of the tree left laying on the ground. Every penny counts and wood on the ground is money on the ground. You will start seeing the slash get chipped up for biomass energy production especially celulosic ethanol production.

With diesel well over $4 a gallon, wood is looking better everyday for renewable energy.

The 2520 will only really handle the 55 inch johndeere tiller not really a 5 fter tiller. You could use a 5ft if you went slow and didn't push her. Its only a 26.5hp tractor so your pto hp is much less than the rated hp. It will do everything you want but till fast. I have 72 inch mid mower and mow 5 acres with it and its nice. I have the 61 inch bucket and will pick up anything i put into it. You could use the 48" or the 55" tiller and be ok. I use the quick attach 3pt thing all the time, its great from ballast box to moving wood with 3pt pallet forks to moving the log splitter all from your seat.

Murf, if he had a 3 pth rear finishing mower, would he not only have to mount to the lift pins and not where the 3rd arm hitches. The mower will be riding on it's own wheels either way, right?

KB, it is my guess backing up would be a pain the way those wheels pivot (on the rear finishing mowers I have used or paid any attention to) if you only used a single pin pull set up. I believe when you went to back up it would run sideways on you if it has pivoting wheels. If your mower has wheels and bearings like mine running on a road eats them up. kt

I wasn't kidding about the high risk of gelling when using bio-diesels in cold weather.

Here's a report from the North Dakota Agriculture Extension Office regarding the use of bio-diesel fuels.

I've copied a small portion dealing with the cloud point of bio-diesel fuels.

"In cold weather, biodiesel begins to cloud and thicken at about 30F.

Biodiesel thickens at warmer temperatures than No. 2 diesel fuel, but additives are available that will lower the pour point. Pour point is the point at which flow of the fuel ceases.

Mixing biodiesel with No.1 diesel as is currently done with No. 2 will lower the pour point. Installing an in-tank or fuel line heater may also be needed to keep the fuel flowing in cold weather.

A blend of biodiesel/diesel fuel has a lower pour point than 100% biodiesel, but gelling may still occur unless care as mentioned earlier is taken."

Note that the gel point is very high, at 30 degrees ABOVE zero. (Some Bio-diesel fuels (YG) gel at 48 degrees ABOVE zero!)

Gentlemen - thank you much for the detailed advice. I'll give each of your suggestions a try and post back with the results by the weekend. My local dealer is also very helpful, and I'll have his 2 cents (hopefully without the loss of plenty of my $$s) to add in to the mix.

Dja; I'm quite sure that I had the same grapple you are talking about on a Deere loader on a 7000 series tractor. When I looked at the grapple at a dealership lot it was on a 500 series loader on a 5000 series tractor. I used it to clean brush, rolls of old fence wire, rocks, you name it when we cleared some old fencerows. If this is the same model you are looking at it had about five or six round teeth about 1 1/2 in. ch diamater about ten to twelve inches long. If the big nut that holds the tooth in gets loose you will break the tooth, so do check them they will work loose. I'd score it a nine on one to ten scale, real nice untt. Frank.

4 years ago bought first tractor. A BX2200 fel mmm, which I traded a year later for a B7800 fel, 6' rfm and also bought a BX1500 54"mmm for my wife so she could/would help me mow (hasn't happened much). She said the B was to big. Last week (3 years later) I traded the B7800 for a L3240 fel and still use 6' rfm. I do more than mowing. I move some dirt and big rocks around 3 acres of not smooth fairly steep hillside. Have some level ground. I also have a Kubota gas mower that I use to mow a level Mobile home park. With my experience on my property for just mowing I prefer the BX series. I prefer the B over the L for just mowing. If I trade again I will go back to the B series with the adjustable telescopic 3pt arms and the adjustable 3pt level set, whatever that's called. Also will still need to do some tractor work and need the higher ground clearance of B. Won't go back to BX since I will have the BX1500 which I use now for a large part of my mowing around trees and in tighter areas. Hope this helps those trying to choose which Kubota to buy for mostly mowing. The BX's will do alot more than mowing but just for mowing to me it's the winner. In my opinion based on my experience. Over the past 4 years of reading this board I've thought Art (and others) would hedge his/their opinion a few times when he/they gave these "It depends on the job replys" I now know Art's the Man(and others) and understand almost totally what he/they were/are saying. Just had to spend alot of money to find out. I came from the "Tim the Toolman" mentality "More Power" but it ain't so in tractors!!

Dealerships are made up of people. As each person varies so does each dealership. What will upset one dealership will not even register with another. Don't forget your attitude and the way you treated the local dealership also comes into this equation. kt

They're both right. What with glow plugs, decompression, and multi-viscosity oil, you don't NEED it to start, but using it on the colder days adds a bit of life to the battery, starter, and engine. And reduces the warmup time.

I have had my EX3200 for just over a month. I hadn't had any previous tractor experience, so I can't offer a ton of depth on how it compares to something else. I did however research the crap out of the decision, and shopped it around quite a bit. <br>

This is a bit late, but maybe someone else can benefit from my answer:

I have a FarmPRO 2524 tractor. It was working like a champ last Fall. I lent it to a buddy to help move some trees. He removed the brush hog. When I reconnected it, the PTO did not work! I sat on that machine trying everything - but still no PTO. Then I looked closely under the seat. There are TWO levers that have the ENG/DIE stamped on it. Both need to be in the ENG position in order for the PTO to work. After pressing both down, the PTO worked like a champ again! I hope this helps someone keep their sanity.

Tom, unfortunately even a half-wit won't be slowed down by a locking gas cap.

All you need to do is put a funnel beneath the water separator open the valve or pull the fuel line off and point it into the container and voila, free diesel!!

EW's idea will work, but is lots of fussing. A "trail cam" of the type designed for hunting sites is a cheap, easy and usually very successful method of stopping unwanted visitors. It's pretty hard to deny a photograph, and once caught there usually very little repeat offenders.

I had problems with gasoline disappearing a few years back, a well placed 5 gallon can full of high octane aviation gas put a quick end to the thefts, and the two engines it was poured into as well. A local father & son lost very expensive 2 stroke 4 wheeler engines, and the father lost his riding mower motor too. Prior to the 'incident' the father had denied his son had anything to do with the rash of siphoned tanks in the area.
