We sharpen more blades than I care to think about in a year.

All are done the same way. Blade is clamped in a bench vice, and touched up with a 4.5" hand-held angle grinder. A very simple balance beam scale is then used to ensure they are equally ground and still balanced.

A couple of tips though, never grind them to anything but a 45� angle, and never sharpen them to a knife edge, always leave a little flat spot on the face edge, about 1/32" - 1/16" in thickness depending on how stout the blade is, finish cut or bush hog type.

If the blades are in tough shape, replace them, they're not expensive, and compared to the cost of the damage an out of balance one will do it's cheap insurance.

The other day while loading wood into my FEL bucket with the engine on fast idle the engine made a funny noise like when you hear the jake brake on a big rig. It only lasted a second and hasn't done it since. Could this be a indication of pending doom or could it be a drop of water going through the injectors?

Murf; My misunderstanding. I assumed you were talking about a Deere 4 wheel steer, instead you were refering to a Kubota. OK the Deere models I have looked at are the X724's with the 62C MMM mower. I want to stay with the tractor type instead of the zero turns for the same reasons you gave. thanks, Frank.

Thank you I will try that.I wittled out a piece of wood to use to align the splines ,but that didnt quite work I was wondering if it would be earier if the rear wheels were off the ground to help in aligning everything?

thanks. I was planning on doing just that, until I could find the parts to replace the rings and bore the cylinders if needed. I told the guy at the dealer he was nuts. Actual the KIOTI is a South Koera, pretty much like the Kobota tractor.

Good. To start verifying/adjusting the clutchpack alignment, get a piece of 3/4" plywood about 18" square and cut a 2" hole in the center. Set it on a LEVEL workbench, and set your new main drive friction disc on it. Note that the splined center is longer on one side than the other, the long side goes in the hole in the plywood. You may have to shim the plywood, so that disc will lay perfectly flat. The plywood is going to simulate your flywheel, and must be perfectly flat. So put a spirit level on it - and adjust the shim height as required.<br>

Set the clutchpack on top of the disc, clutch fingers up. Use all your upper body weight to push the clutchpack down on the disc, that will simulate bolting it to the flywheel. If the fingers are loose, this will push them up. They may already be in place, so don't be dismayed if nothing moves. <br>

The first critical measurement checks the PTO release finger height. There are three bolts through the clutchpack that are showing you hex nuts. Each bolt has two nuts; the bottom one is for adjusting, the top one is for locking. Remove the three locking nuts. You're going to measure the distance from the top of each of the three remaining nuts - to the surface of the plywood flywheel. The spec is 101.5 millimeters.<br>

It's a difficult measurement with conventional calipers, so I made my own gauge out of wire. I cut off about six inches of fairly stiff (uninsulated) wire, and hammered it as perfectly straight as possible. I put a 90 degree bend about 3/4 inch from one end. I then measured from the inside of that bend towards the other end of the wire, and cut at the 101.5mm mark. <br>

This started from the get go with 2 hours on it. So what I have been doing is just running it at 1200 rpm with no noise or if I get anxious I run it at 2300 to 2600 rpm with no noise. The dealer said he was going to see if another new 4220 tractor did the same thing, but I think this was the only 4220 on his lot. I did drive it before I bought it, but not at higher than 1200 rpm.
Warm/Cold same thing here in Texas it's been around 70 and it warms up pretty quick.
All the fluid levels are full.
Tomorrow, I will look at it closer and try to turn off the fuel to each cylinder like greg suggested and if that doesn't expose a bad injector then I think I might try using some farm diesel or an additive and see what happens.

If all fails then I will have the dealer do the 50 hour fluid changes and fix it or replace it. Only problem with that is that I bought from this dealer because he gave me the best price and he is 120 miles away. The closer dealers (30 miles and 44 miles) couldn't beat his price and deliver it.

Most of the cracks are on the hood and cowling near the fuel cap. I guess the diesel spilling on it could be the culprit. That would not expain the cracks on the front of the hood and the bottom of the grill.

Eric, I recently bought a Shibaura 1840 and was wondering if you still have the word doc,"mantintenance schedule, lever operating instructions, the seven lube sumps/capacities/type of lube, etc."

Well, the verdict is in. The dealership called and said it's the main clutch :-( The cost is better than expected: parts and labor is estmated @ $1550.00. I asked what the cost would rise to if the flywheel needed to be replaced or resurfaced and was told they had figured resurfacing into the quote.

I'm not happy but it explains the price I paid. Even with $1500 in repairs I'm still under the average sale price I've seen advertised for this model.

They hoped to get started on it today and said it was still possible to get it back this week. That would be nice since it's supposed to get into the '60's this weekend and I've got a lot of work to do.

The hose that comes off the pump and curves up to the ceiling is an extra 13 foot long hose I tied into the suction hose that runs between the drum and the pump.
It's the hose you see running between the wall outlet and the fuse box.

I installed this hose specifically to avoid having to lift and pour out of anything.

What I would do in your case with the cans is simply insert the hose in the can or cans and pump the fuel right out of them.
