Being that I try to get by as cheap as I can, I was driving everything and looking for a great deal. Overall I liked the Kubota RTV the best but the price was too much. Then I found a low hour unit with a $3k discount and I bought it. I soon forgot how much I paid for it because it gives me the biggest smile whenever I use it. The power steering and hydralic dump makes a big difference. When I pull my 25ton woodsplitter around I can't even tell it's there. I love it.

I use my truck for too many other things to make it a dedicated blower truck. If I had a second truck to work with, I might consider it.

Now my uncle has a Rambler straight-6 engine installed on a skid on the back of his tonner. According to his research, that engine produced more torque than any other engine of a similar size. He uses it to blow snow.....and it works great. I might have to do something similar.

Holy Cow. I woke up this morning to -20 degrees. Thankfully the wind has died down a bit, but I'm still not going out in this weather to blow snow. A blower mounted to my pickup is probably the solution I'm after, but I'll have to figure out how to make it easily detachable.

Looks like I have yet another summer project ahead of me. Problem is, our summers are too short already!

I was just at my dealer and they had two of the silver ones. They do look very nice. I think I'll stick with my orange one though.

The early years of the RTV were known to vibrate there front drive shaft. They would get worse with age. The newer ones clamp on the splines so they don't rattle.

It's a good night to be talking about snowblowers. We got about 2 inches of snow today, and the wind has picked up to about 30 mph from the Northwest. Current temp is 10 degrees below zero. I even don't want to know what the windchill is right now.

The snowblower is hooked up, but I'm not going out in this weather. The snow will be there waiting for me when the wind dies down. hehehe.

Barry, if you're serious about both organic (low or no till) and row crop, look around for an old row crop machine like an Allis Chalmers or such.

If your land is flat you can get a 'widow-maker' (narrow front end) row crop machine for buttons usually, some of them are even setup for a cultivator and such belly mounted which makes field work really easy for beginners. The implement is in front & below your feet, not behind you.

We've found that we can rebuild most everything! That doesn't mean that it's always the best way to go. It can often enough cost more then the engines can be purcahsed for that are new replacements.

Joel, that pic only shows the 40 series which comes with a factory valve on the right side fender. It is very much the same as the later 30 series cab or current cab for the 30 series.

Let me throw you all a loop! We often see farm tractors and a few compacts that the thermostats are bad in and unless used under full load never get up to temperature. I know, the cooling system is working good if it's not overheating but the problem is that diesels need heat to run right! By not running an engine up to temp they will normally get what we call exhaust slobber. This is partially burnt fuel that doesn't make it past the rings to contaminate the oil in the engine(it actually thickens it) but is blown out the exhaust. It could also be from a leaky injector but most of the time we just see older tractors running way to cool and not burning all of the fuel throwing out the exhaust system.

Yea, pretty amazing what they can do, and how smart they are.

there was one old hillbilly farmer lived down the creek from us, had a great team, it was amazing what he could do with them, and how well they worked under his commands.

he farmed his whole life with horses, every thing from plowing, cultivating his veg garden, cutting, raking and bailing hay, of course pulling sled, or anything else he hooked them to.

He used to cut and sell timber, all the pulling was done with the team or single horse.

Every spring he used to plow gardens for less fortunate persons who could not afford a team for the heavy work,

I found the correct rims with r4 tires for the rear by doing an Ebay search (you register the search and they email any hits). They were brand new take-offs and reasonably priced. I found inexpensive R4 front tires from a Chinese importer(I don't recall the site but try searching).

One note- they had to cut the old tires off the front rims because they were filled with some sort of foam!

Well, I've decided to sell the 1967 Bolens with these attachments.
Front blade
Rear tiller
Mower deck
Set of tire chains.

I'm also throwing in and extra mower deck for a parts mower.

Nothing fancy but it's all mechanically good especially the tractor Blade and tiller.
Now the 64 $ question what would be a fair asking price for both me and the buyer?

I know one thing it's hard to find a used garden tractor that has all 3 of these attachments with it.

I know I looked for years with out success so I just broke down and bought a used BX1500 and a new tiller and front blade for $7125

Here is a chance for somebody to save tons of money compared to that.

Mupparpa,

I'm curious to know how many times you have to empty your bagger when mowing your lawn.

In an earlier letter, you mentioned that you had some concerns about the amount of clippings it would hold before filling up.

Does it hold more than you thought, or do you empty more often than you thought you'd have to?

Going along with Joel, to counter the blade rolling over you could add a brace or limiter to prevent rolling over.
Even if this were doable---and I highly think it's not advisable--- you would be taxing the framework/support structure of the blade and the blade itself.

But---and it' a big BUT...

Rather than forks on the front with a blade and all that entails trying reinforcing/limiting, etc. just build something that attaches to the 3pt. TSC used to sell a really inexpensive Cat. 1 for about $89. It had stationary arms (sort of like 2" angle-iron forks) that made up the unit, which was really for a carry platform when you added a piece of plywood. But with a little fabricating you should be able to whip one up easily with adjustable forks too.

I made a combination adjustable fork/crane unit for mine. The forks I had were made to be adjustable for a smallish loader bucket and could fold back over the loader bucket when not needed. The forks were about 3 feet long, 3" wide, 24" tall, and 1-1/4" thick. Apparently they were nothing more than mild steel because the first time I "field tested" them (backed under my dump truck bumper to see what would happen when I lifted it---and I found out) to my utter amazement I bent both forks (I got a little to quick & heavy on the 3pt lever as the front end raised up)! DOH!! So much for destructive testing.
