Thanks Guys - I realize I probably (most likely)did not make the best "value" judgement on the TZ and I totally agree that for an additional 20% I would be in a much different catagory (real tractor). But in my defence I have no garage at the cabin only a shed (and you are rightly thinking Why did this fool spend 13K on a tractor instead of building a garage?)and believe it or not my 82 year old mother likes to cut the grass so I could not go too big and although we are lucky enough to have 100 acres in the mountains only about five of it is usable for fields and overgrown orchards that I have been clearing by walk behind brush mower for 15 years so even this little guy will be a big improvement. Lastly I'm making a bet here that this line of tractor (sub compact) will hold its value pretty well in the event I decide to upgrade. Still though I want a stump grinder and a bush hog with a slip clutch for trail clearing. - I have never seen an attachment go on a tractor of any kind. I'm not bad with a wrench but I never got near anything hydrolic before. You guys are from the middle - a good friend of mine recently sent me a pic from her home town in N.D. Devil's Fork? anyway the picture was of a young man and his date going to the prom on his John Deer tractor. Don't see that much in Boston!

Have any of you used the common plastic white rail fence you see all over now as a snow fence? I've been using the orange plastic stuff. It is next to worthless, the first wind it seems to strech no matter how close you drive the posts then just sag down and become a nothing. I've seen two, three, and four rail, I wondered if the four rail would provide enough surface to start a drift? anyone have any thoughts? Cost? Frank.

A comprimise between the what you are looking at and a cable might be a 3 point grapple. You don't have to get off the tractor to hook up, but you will eventually have to drag bigger stuff. I beleive Murf has a photo of his.

So long as the generator isn't running, you should have no trouble at all.

Connect your ground clamp as close to your work area as possible, and make sure you have a good connection. Electricity always follows the path of least resistance.

Do you have a rear port now? Some machines have a single rear port which operates the three point hitch, if this is the case you may not absolutely need the spitter... I checked into it too.- Big bucks.

I take the leaves and yard debris I get off of my 70 oak and hickory tees and dump them around the pond each winter. Murf is correct I set fire to this and it clears all around the pond. It does grow up during the summer. The county here uses the torches you mentioned a good bit for control burning. If you had a small area they should work good. Al gore is number one on my list for something I'm sure. One goat to another I dont hop so well any more. I take it one hop at a time.<br>

I did look at that option with the mobile home frame and belive me there are plenty in rural GA. The cost will still be up there kind of high. Transportation cost and crane to set the frame and all. I realy wanted a bridge, I think I would look good on it.

I agree with Art, the only thing that can cause the engine to back fire out the tail pipe is unburnt gas in the exhaust.

If it was starving for gas that would be the last thing to happen.

Sounds more like, as others have mentioned, you're loosing spark.

Kenneth, they are a standard (usually B&S) vertical shaft gas engine, in the 12-16 hp range.

I think the regular (read slinger type oil system) engine can run on about a 30� angle with no problem indefinitely provided the oil is up to the full mark.

If it is a positive pressure type engine (with an oil pump) you should be fine to about 45� tilt, again, as long as the oil is up to the full mark.

In most cases I think you will have fuel problems before you have any issues with oil. If you have to run on a steep angle you could always make up a slightly raised engine mount and use a couple of flex joints to pivot the engine to a flatter attitude.

A dealer I know in California sells a lot of BX's.

He orders all his implements with two sets of top link holes. One set for BX's and a regular set for every other tractor on the market.

I've never really seen a true grey market dealership--bricks-and-mortar. NMost times these are gyys who buy a shipping container full and try to peddle them on the roadside. That way when something does go wrong they're nowhere to be found.

I would like to pick up a lightly used or discounted unit before the snow gets here. I have a 26 hp 2006 Husqvarna LGT 2654 and I know they are built by EHC (Electrolux Home Products) that is now a division of Husqvarna and they make all the tractor models for Husqvarna, Craftsman and Poulan. <br>
For the model I have, I don't have the all important "Sears/Craftsman" part # - so I can't get the compatibility listing from Sears and Agri-fab (that makes the attachments for Craftsman) need the Sear # to help me out also. If anyone of you tractor gurus can advise me on this I would really appreciate it. <br>
FWIW - My Husqvarna tractor appears to be nearly identical to the Craftsman model - DGS 6500 Garden Tractor <br>

I'm using an old Rhino mower that I purchased at a local auction. It works fine for what I need it for, but I'll be replacing it in the near future. It's a bit bigger than my tractor can handle at higher speeds. I have to slow down much more than I should have to.

This land I purchased was just jam packed with old fencing wire, railroad ties, steel wheels, tires, radiators, engine heads, rear ends, etc. All of this stuff was placed in the trees, where the grass grew up over it. I picked up everything I could find, but I'm still striking some metal once in a while. So far, I've hauled out three semi loads of scrap metal from the place.

I didn't want a new mower until all of this garbage had been picked up and removed.

When I do get a new mower, I'm considering a LandPride 4ft. model. My neighbor bought a slightly bigger Landpride model a few years back, and it works like a charm.

LandPride is one of the few companies who produce equipment specifically designed for very small tractors. Most other companies make their smallest mowers for tractors from 25-40hp. (5ft.) For people like you and me, these implements aren't a good fit.

Shop the landpride website when you get a chance. I think you'll like the selection of equipment that's specifically designed to operate properly on your smaller tractor.
