I don't know what you consider pricey, but my hydraulic toplink cost me $30 bucks.

For what you are doing that you want hydraulics for, I would definitely recomend using the front remotes with a longer line set. A simple valve in there would easily split it out into two sets of rear remotes.

First off wlcome to the board!!

I would suggest you check that the rad is clogged up with dust and debris. Any machine will heat up under load if the rad is obstructed.

It sounds a lot like what is happening if just a little cool water makes such a difference.

Also check that the fan is in good working order, and that the shroud is not damaged, a good fitting shroud makes all the difference in the world by directing the maximum amount of air across the rad.

If your machine does not have a water pump, lots of the cheaper / older Asian machines don't, the fan is even more critical, consider adding an auxilary electric one in either case. Also be sure the rad is not clogged with sediment and is flowing well.

Frank, I don't know about the JD machines, but being an engineer with a yard full of Kubotas I've done the power calculations on the A/C system in our machines.

A typical small A/C compressor has a power consumption of about 2,000 watts or 2.6 horsepower while running under full load. Bear in mind however, the compressor cycles on and off as demand dictates.

On a personal level, I can tell you I haven't yet found a time when I could detect the power drop when the A/C compressor kicked in. I sure do notice the sudden drop in temperature and humidity though! ;)

It is a manufacturing mistake.

It is a carry over from the 16" mould which (by law) must say "mount only on 16" rim" or words to that effect, this was because at the time, 16.5" tires for pickups were cheap and plentiful, and 16" rims were not, so people would put a 16" trailer tire on a 16.5" rim, and it would work...... for a while. :(

Just replace them with a set of ST205/75R15 tires from a reputable manufacturer and you (and the boat) will be fine. Are you sure though that you don't have the weight numbers on the boat wrong though? A ST205/75R15 tire is only a load range 'C' tire, i.e. 6 ply rating, and is only rated for 1,820 pounds, so 2 of them would only be rated for 3,640 pounds, but you say you are higher than that. If that's the case you should consider getting the next size larger tire which is a ST225/75R15 but is rated for 2,540 pounds each, which gives you an extra 720 pounds each, or 1,440 pounds total weight carrying capacity.

If this is the case then you should also ensure that the axle and suspension on your trailer (look at the weights listed on the manufacturer data plate) is rated for at least 4,000 pounds also.

If you have 3,500 pound capacity running gear (axle & springs) and 3,640 pounds of tire, but a gross weight exceeding that, someone will point an accusing finger if there's ever a problem.

I don't know how far you from Albany, but I doubt you'll find better prices or service than at Redneck Trailer Supplies, I dealt with them for years when I was manufacturing trailers and truck bodies. Good people.

I have a loader valve on my Kubota b7510, I built a cab for it and had to cut the handle down so it didn't hit the window or pinch my finger, it works like a charm. I guess if you are a little on the short side at 5'8" I must be a midget at 5'4" but I do not have a problem with the seat on my tractor no BH or FEL but can reach everything just fine. I wish I could afford the arm rests for it though.(dealer quoted me $85....EACH!!!! ouch) Ken.

You might want to check the bolts that secure your steering valve to the tractor. If they work loose, you will begin to develop a leak in the supply and return lines connected to your hydraulic power steering valve.

You may not need any seals. You may have a loose hydraulic line, instead. Replacing a broken or cracked line may not be the solution, as there is likely something loose that caused the power steering line to crack, or work loose, in the first place.

Grab hold of your steering wheel and see if it has any forward-to-back or side-to-side play in the steering column. If so, you will need to tighten the bolts that secure your steering valve to the tractor. This will likely involve removing the engine side panels and the dash, along with the dress cover that fits below the dash, between your feet.

My Kubota B2100 has four bolts that secure the steering valve to the tractor. They work loose from time to time. I recently replaced a broken hyd. line, and in the process of replacing it I discovered the reason why it cracked.

The bolts weren't very loose, but it doesn't take much for there to be a considerable amount of movement in the power steering lines.

Dear friends,

When mowing around low hanging trees, please beware of the fact that the ROPS is much higher than your head, and it's behind you, where it is out of sight and out of mind.

A good friend of mine was mowing his yard, when he decided that he could go under the wire supporting the power pole next to his garage. The ROPS caught on the supporting wire and lifted his front tires completely off the ground, nearly flipping his tractor over backward. Thankfully, he was traveling at a very low speed, allowing him to quickly stop before it went over on him.

It is rather ironic that the device that is supposed to prevent the tractor from rolling, can actually cause it to roll.

Be careful, friends. It doesn't take much pressure on the top of the ROPS to flip a tractor over on its back........and NEVER, EVER attempt to pull or drag anything by using the ROPS as a hitch point.

You're right. CTD isn't located right next door! hehehe.

CTD has a full sales staff and they travel all over North America. They can identify or measure any hydraulic cylinder to determine which packings and seals are necessary to repair the item, or even make a new cylinder from scratch to replace any cylinder up to 8 inches in diameter, and 10 feet closed length.

And if you wish to send your cylinder or hydraulic pump to them, they will repair the item and then send it back.

CTD is as close as your nearest shipper.

Stanley has an advantage over me, in that he doesn't have to mess around with international customs in order to get his material repaired and returned to him.

But, I'm sure Stanley has a supplier much closer to him who may be able to help him just as well.

I just looked at this thread for the first time, the big thing that jumped out at me was several statements such as "And I'm adding a half gallon of 50/50 coolant before each mowing." and "When mowing, if I let the RPM go down (like when I get off the tractor to move something) , I get coolant spewing from the overflow hole under the radiator cap.".

That to me says to look at a bad head gasket or cracked head itself. If the overflow was blowing a half a gallon of coolant it would be a major stream of coolant out that little hose. You would definitely know it. Besides, I couldn't see you boiling it over enough to ever spit out a half a gallon, the first boil over would reduce the volume enough to prevent any further occurances. I think the liquid is going somewhere else.

If the machine has a problem like that, at high revs it will be sucking coolant when the liquid is pressurized by heat, and the engine is on the intake stroke, and at idle it will be blowing bubbles into the system, making it blow past the cap. Also, the rad cap is designed to allow excess pressure to escape, but not vacuum, and water under vacuum boils at a LOWER point than it does under pressure.

I would be looking at pressure testing the cooling system over a longer period of time, overnight at least and see if the system is leaking down. I would also be doing a compression test on the engine to see if one cylinder has a problem.

Had a 525 indestrutable machine. They were designed for hard rugged use, in the middle of nowhere, that is why you use motor oil and they are maintenance friendly for the novice. Sounds like the spool is hanging up when you release the lever, needs cleaning, also the oil changed along with the filter for the hydrolics.

I believe the X4nn, X5nn & X7nn replaced the 4nn series and are stil marketed. They higher hydraulic pressure/volume and options including 4WD, "limited" CAT1 3PH etc.

This may be too late but all else being equal, the JD455 would be my choice. The 22hp Yanmar diesel is simply awesome and I would it expect it would outlast a gas engine offsetting the diference in hours between the two machines. Either way you go, you shouldn't be disappointed.
