I trenched a 400' line for a plumber/electrician. He literally zip-tied a gas line, data line and a water line bundled together to 4" drain tile. Then dropped the whole works in the trench. Local inspectors told him that was not allowed. But he being the guy who he is---took the issue up with head state inspector and agreed with him.

The advice given here usually involves finding a good dealer before selecting a brand. The dealer is responsible for final assembly, implement installation, and checkout. They can make or break the ownership experience and clearly your dealer has ruined yours. Hopefully you at least got a good price.

I've got a torn rotator cuff and am hearing conflicting advice on whether surgery should be done. It's been bothering me for 18 months or so and doesn't seem to be improving at all. Some people say the surgery would require a year or more of followup therapy and may not improve much even after the rehab. Anyone here have this surgery? I'd be curious to know what your experience has been and if you'd do it again.

Ken; The part you call the piston, I'm taking you to mean the chrome plated shaft that moves in and out of the cylinder to dump the bucket, correct? You have me wondering a bit as to why it is leaking. Has anything happened to the shaft to cause a rough spot that would abrade the seal as the shaft moves in and out, or even a bent shaft from striking something? Normal wear on hydraulic cylinders that aren't damaged can get you to be a pretty old man before any maintinence is needed. Check closely to see if perhaps a piece old wire, a small piece of gravel or something has gotten in the seal perhaps while pileing brush, clearing an old fenceline or whatever. The seal is a low dollar item, and the changing of it is pretty strait forward, but be ready to get real greasy. A hydraulic shop can change it for you pretty fast if they have time. Frank.

Randy, thanks for the pointer. I've also concluded that one saw won't do it all. The 290 easily takes out a 18" tree but limbing is a real chore. The little Husky 136 was a compromise that would struggle on a larger trees and wasn't ideal for limbing either. It was a heck of a saw for the price and if a dealer was closer the choice between Husky & Stihl would be tough. At 7 lbs the 192T does look like it would take the work out of limbing and the top handle control looks really good. I think I'll pick one up.

I'm looking to purchase a tc30 hst 4x4. I went to a dealer and got the following quote.<br>

I live in northeast PA, but the dealer was in upstate NY. I live right on the boarder. Would I be better off buying in PA, or are prices about the same as NY. The quote seems to be a little high to me, and the dealer really didn't seem like he wanted to come down at all. Any input anyone has would be great. <br>

I think the owner has given you a very good price. As Art stated tell someone else where the tractor is and you will be saying "The deal I missed". Now that would make you apprehensive.

Well, I swapped places with the injectors and the problem didn't follow to the other cylinder, so I took a look at the glow plug and found the ceramic insulator cracked.....I will get that replaced and see what happens. Thanks for the help!!

I'm new to tractors and am looking at a 2004 TC33 with 145 hrs, 14LA loader, 758 backhoe, 4WD for $19,900. Just wondering if thats a reasonable price? He also has a TC25D,I think it's a 2003, no attachments, 343 hrs, also 4WD for $10,500. Is the price fair and can a loader be installed on a TC25? Thanks for any help.

I think that's the optimal RPM for the motor and the PTO gear ratio is set up so at that engine speed the rear PTO will be spinning at 540 RPM. Lower engine speeds will just slow the PTO below the recomended speeds. You very well might find the MM runs just fine with less RPMs, even lighter fluffy snow may not need the blower at full speed. Some of the older models had a two speed PTO (540/ 1000). That was nice because you could run the motor at a lower RPM and in the higher PTO RPM if you weren't taxing the motor too much and save some fuel. Of course you could run PTO attachments at a speed much higher than they were built for too, hense I'm not sure if the two speed PTO's are offered anymore.

cowpie, having written owners and service manuals for several auto manufacturers, it's not so much that the manufacturers think their customers are morons. The legal system frowns on producers who don't adequately advise consumers of the potential dangers, and therefore punishes them. It's the product liability lawyers who drive the system. When I was a writer I was known for being cautious. Part of my position was to review a car in prototype stage for possible safety issues that had to change before production. Once I was working on an electric Infiniti convertible validating my operating procedures with a big-shot from Infiniti. My procedure clearly stated, "do not put your fingers in convertible pull down actuator wells in the windshield header". So what does the big-shot do? He puts a finger in there, hits the button and loses part of his finger. We changed the pull down system pronto, but even that was just as dangerous. My point is even though the designers, the engineers, the guys that made the prototype, and upper management that approved the system loved the first version, it was not saleable to the public who have no clue (and rightfully so) on how to use it. It assuemd that if someone puts something on the market it is fit for the purpose intended.

Sorry for the confusion. It was popping out gear when he would move the tractor 3 or 4 feet, then it finally got to the point where he could not even get it to go in gear at all. I have tried to make a couple of slight adjustments in the linkage, but it have not made any difference. Thanks!

I'm putting in a drip system and have lots of elbow connectors, Tees, couplers, etc between runs of 1/2" drip line. I've connected a few runs of hose via these compression fittings and feel like there must be a trick to make them join more easily. I find myself really working hard to muscle the hose into each fitting. After a few of these, I'm not looking forward to the rest. Surely there is a simple trick or tool to make this easier...?<br>

I average about 27mpg overall. A little less when towing. I have had great results. I use it frquently aroung the farm to check on things and round up cattle. It is real good in snow and mud. I got 31.6 mpg a couple of weekends ago on a trip. That was with 4 adults and cargo.<br>

Now that diesel is cheaper than gas, and that the gas Liberty's are lucky if they get 21 MPG, I am enjoying my CRD even more. I get quite a few looks when filling up at the diesel pump.<br>

This is a Class 3 synthetic. It is derived by hydrocracking process on mineral oil. It is better than the normal class 2 mineral oils.

If you are going synthetic, a class 4 such as Amsoil will be a better product. The TBN package in the oil is better. The base oil is chemically engineered and has a better shear rating.

Overall, you will benefit by going to a synthetic. The properties are just plain better. If you are looking at extended oil changes as a reason, I would advise you use an oil analysis program. It is advisable anyway because it is like having a blood workup by your doctor. It will usually detect a problem that is starting to occur within your engine so you can get a jump on it before it ruins the engine. (such as a coolant leak or air that is bypassing the intake filter).

Regarding Lucas products, I know a number of people who use them. I have never done so. I just use Amsoil synthetics throughout.

Came across this though that might be an interesting read. The website is pretty reputable.

Unfortunately, many owners disregard the drive train oils.

I have always felt that ALL the drive train oils should be changed after the initial 15-20K miles. There is a lot of metals that are part of the maufacturing that get in the oil during the breakin period. Since transfer cases and differentials are not filtered, the excess particulates just cause undue wear. Same is true for an auto tranny, even though it is filtered.

I like using synthetics throughout, like Amsoil, but even it you stick with the OEM type of oils, CHANGE THE OIL!

Your vehicle will appreciate it! :)
