I think the key is in the original post itself.

"I have a new Gator XUV." New brakes are too smooth and shiny to make a good stop often.

Try taking some very fine emory cloth on a sanding disk and a cordless drill to the rotors and put a very fine swirl on both faces of them. Also very slightly roughen the pads themselves.

I did this on a brand new "other" brand buggy and nearly launched myself out over the hood afterwards. The difference was night & day.

Since I needed to talk to the guys at the dealership anyway, I talked to the shop foreman too. He gave me the poop on the valve.

The valve in question was the wrong one for the machine, there is a bulletin on changing them out UNDER WARRANTY to the newer smoother valves. The proper valve, which will solve the problem is Kubota P/N 31351-39604.

The problem was fixed during the production run, at S/N 10547 and any with a higher S/N than that have the new valve installed already.

This problem affects ALL L2800 and L4300 (gear & hydro) tractors in the earlier production.

Art; In the time of the "H" and "M" there were a few H's pulling 3/14 in river sand and M's pulling 4/14 in the same aeria. In the heavy black soils where we lived the "M" struggled at times with the 3/16. Dad bought a new #37, 13ft. wheel disc the year they came out, seems like about 56 or 57, the "M" handled it pretty well in 3rd. but the "H" did'nt have a prayer. I've still got that "H", but after I restored it is too nice to drive, it just takes up shed room now. Frank.

Dennis, I think Jeff may be onto something.

I had forgotten, I've sent a few emails to people through the site feature recently and none got any response, I now wonder if they even went through.

Thanks for all the information. I just need to make a command decision and go with the Kubota BX1850. A dealer has quoted 8495.00 with a 54" mmm deck. Also I have located a 2005 JD 2210 with 1 hr for 7999.00 for just the tractor. Too many decisions:(

I think I'm gonna try to find one like in the add and give it a try during next filter change, just to see what happens, will cut the filter after and see results in person, will let everyone know the results.

I know this is an old post but I have a great way to clean spark plugs. Works super great if you are having issues starting a motor (assuming it's a spark issue). Get yourself an ingiter coil from an oil furnace. If you put the tip of the plug on one of the two terminals and a screw driver to the base of the plug to the other terminal. Be careful, never said this was safe, but plug the coil in and give it a few minutes. You can see the plug cleaning itself. The color of the spark will change. I've had plugs that were so fouled that at first the spark just traveled down the insulator, a few moments later the carbon was going up in smoke as the insulator heated up, good as new. If you install it back in the engine while it's hot it's much less likely to foul.

Of course this is can be dagerious, do not go near the plug while the coil is plugged in. Wear safety glasses as the plug will get hot and burn the oil/ carbon off. Keep anything flamable far away. Be careful handling the plug afterwards, it is very hot.

The only reason I'm telling this "old timers" secret is because I once got some bad gas (I think the place I bought it from dumped old oil or something in the storage tank). Everytime I went to start the engine the plug would foul. After 3 trips to the store getting new plugs then trying the sandblasting trick my neighbor taught it to me, worked the first time. The engine started right up and for the first few minutes ran with a skip until the old gas was worked out of the carb then ran great.

The small engines with one cylinder are much more susceptible to fouling.

I like the tractors to start out light and ballast for maiximum performance and balance. To start out to heavy is the wrong way to go. It's been shocking for the employee's that came off of farms as to how light they can be and perform easily. In the last post mention was made as to the weight as a percentage of the tractor's weight. To look at the horsepower in the same manner also tells you of the power loss just to move the extra weight. I've heard some say that the loaded tires make them more stable on side hills, seems funny but that is just a weight issue to begin with as the axle is still the center of the weight to the tractor. The end result is more wear on the differential, brakes as well as your wallet for fuel. Some feel it's the way to go and that's fine too! We do fill tires and repair and sell them so I do enjoy the people that feel the need of loading the tires, right or wrong for there application.

John, I believe you're thinking of White Lithium grease, that's a different animal.

You want "dielectric grease" which is sometimes white, but often clear like petroleum jelly. Go to any good auto parts place and ask for it by name. If they don't know what it is, ask for the stuff you put in trailer plugs or snow plow connectors to keep them from shorting out.

I have a 1947 Cub s/n 9188. It is painted yellow on the fenders and gas tank. I peeled paint several places and could not find any traces of red paint. If it has been repainted it sure was a good job. Does anyone know if the factory ever painted a cub yellow and white in 1947? I want to repaint it but want to restore it to the original color, whatever that was. Appreciate any info, John
