Can anybody tell me about the Toro 5Xi GT 550 Garden tractor. From what I have been able to find out this model has been discontinued but parts are still available. This machine appears to have everything available for it.

The problem that I have is, the Kubota BX 1850 just seem too big for 1.2 acres of land. Also I have located a new BX 1500 for 8500 which is about the same size as a JD X540, Cub 3200 etc.
Please help.

Please see the website link below for the Toro GT 550.
Thanks

Touch,

I can't tell you anything about the Toro, but I can about a Kubota. From what I could tell about the specs, the Toro does not have 4-wheel drive. Even for 1 acre you will be amazed how much you will use the 4X4 and how frustrating it will be without it. I have a BX for 2 acres and would not consider one without 4 wheel drive. Often times I put in 2X4 when I might be running it on pavement a lot and soon as I get off the pavement and try to do something it will start to spin. Put it in 4X4 and it will go anywhere and do anything.

I would also not want a FEL on that small of a machine. A BX with a FEL is the least weight machine I would recommend a FEL for, but still quite functional and very useful.

Spend the extra money for a BX....you will not be sorry.

Brian

We have had our BX1500 for nearly 4 years. It would be perfect for your use. Good luck. ....

Don't know about Toro but do know BX'S. I have hillside 3 Acres. Bought BX2200 with FEL. Done so much more than I thought it could and found I used it more for other than mowing than I thought I would so traded it for B7800 with FEL. Then bought a BX1500 no fel for mostly mowing. With 3pt hitch on it I use it for smaller jobs with Landscape rake, Big fertilizer spreader and a reseeder (big spiked roller that hold 40lbs grass seed). BX1500 is a tractor that mows not a mower. The 4wheel drive is also great if you have anything but flat ground. Just bought a Kubota gas mower ($3600)for another piece of property that is mostly flat and have learned the value of the 4wd when I crossed a little high mound and mowed down in the ditch line. The BX1500 has plenty of power and usually will spin the tires before it dies. It just takes a little longer to do jobs with the smaller tractors in the BX line but they will do most jobs. My 2 cents!! ....

Thanks for all the information. I just need to make a command decision and go with the Kubota BX1850. A dealer has quoted 8495.00 with a 54" mmm deck. Also I have located a 2005 JD 2210 with 1 hr for 7999.00 for just the tractor. Too many decisions:( ....

1*The problem that I have is, the Kubota BX 1850 just seems too big for 1.2 acres of land
2*I have located a new BX 1500 for 8500 which is about the same size as a JD X540, Cub 3200 etc.
3*Spend the extra money for a BX....you will not be sorry.
4*We have had our BX1500 for nearly 4 years. It would be perfect for your use.
5*I have located a 2005 JD 2210 with 1 hr for 7999.00 for just the tractor.
=============================================================
1*It's the size of the task that counts not the size if the land
2*I'd say the BX1500 is closer to the size of the 1850 than it is to a JD X540 or Cub 3200.
The big difference is the BX 1500 and 1850 are sub compacts while the JD X540 & Cub 3200 are Garden tractors
3*When I was shopping A JD lawn tractor was around 12000 compared to the BX1500 for 8500.
This was with a front blade and a rear tiller on both tractors
4*It sure would be especially if it cost less than the other choices.
5*8000 sounds high for a used 2 year old tractor compared to my BX 23 cost on just the tractor when I bought it new was only 8100.

Thanks for all the information. I will go with the BX1850:) The JD 2210 is a new machine. The dealer said that it was a left-over model and he had to sell it right away. ....

My 2003 BX2200 has been great, I bought it with the LA211 front end loader, than added the Woods Ground Breaker X backhoe later, at almost 500 hrs , no problems! ....
