Sounds like a good price. I just picked up a 2003 4310 with less hours than 200 hours for my 4100/Blade/Loader54"MMM and $3k from a dealer.

The BX does a great job on snow in general. My new place has areas which have drifted up to 4' so I am opting for a larger machine to replace my old Case 430 and to clear the main drives next winter.

Art the only thing that looked out of the ordinary was all the rust and casting junk that was into the inner O-ring and the inner was badly decomposed and the outer O-ring appeared thin in the same spot.

Bought new sleeve and piston.

Got the gaskets at Clinton a lady there knows you. Had to go to Frankfort for crusher parts and did tractor parts as side trip.

Tractor now running very well no problems. (maybe I should not have said that)

I periodically look for Samurais and Sidekicks for this very reason. My CUT just isn't the hot ticket for moving around the woods; despite being very manuverable (JD4100) it is just too tippy for comfort in my hilly woods. Also, pulling my utility trailer around is not ideal although so far I've made do. My problem with the small SUV route is not enough cargo room for putting firewood and whatnot. While I like the idea of cutting down a minipickup, I'm not sure I would still end up with what I want. And the UTV's and RTV's seem to be pretty pricey for what you get. After a recent trip to Asia I've become fascinated by the thought of getting one of the used japanese mini (as in MICRO) pickups.

...and many others. What I like about these is that you can get them with dump beds, heat, lockable cab, etc. No, they're certainly not road legal but then, neither is an RTV. Anyone have any experience with them?

My experience has been with trail building for hiking/mountain biking but I would think a lot of the basic priciples apply. A good resource on trail design and construction can be found at the link below. For my place, I've a mix of "driving/riding around stuff" trails and a few "arterial roads" for my CUT and trailer for getting logs and stuff out. Most of those were done before I owned it so I'm not sure how they were done but I tend to just cut the trees down as low as possible. I would think stump grinding would be optimal though.

I don't have the parts diagram for my Yanmar anymore. But I'm going go speculate that it uses a one piece bearing and race, and that heat from the tortured bearing has expanded the race within the hub housing. If it's been that was for a while, rust is probably complicating the issue.

Tapping will free it faster than a straight pull, because you can't really SEE if your pull is straight. I think it would be less aggravation in the long run to pull the axle, then tap the hub and bearing apart once you can actually see what's going on inside there.

The transmission on that tractor with the forward reverser that is used has switches that will stop the flow to the trans to stop the tractor. Low oil pressure or several other things can have the same results, I'd doubt that the creeper would be the problem as that is a cassette type unit but it could be. Are there any lights on the dash on?

Thats an erskine blower and they do work well. We just had a customers 135 white in for some tranny work with a 108" mounted to it with chains to boot! Part of the fun with working a unit like that is the adjustablity of the spout with full control from the cab.

My wife and I saw the TV commercial for it. We both looked and saw it's basically a multi-axis CNC unit for small woodworkers. I have no opinion as to it's quality or performance. I wouldn't get it past the CFO since I have some carving knives. Same end product, just a little rougher and takes longer.<br>

Now in 20 years when the kids are gone and I'm driving her nuts, then maybe she'll let me so I'll be in the shop and leaving her alone.

Jeff, no it's not that I 'didn't like' your ideas.

You were absolutely going down the right road, but for a shade-tree mechanic with some experience, diagnosis is easy. FOr a pretty rank amateur with little mechanical experience, and even less tractor experience, the simplest test is the best one.

Bear in mind, an engine rolling over on a starter is turning just fast enough to catch at the best of times, add any one, or several, complicating factors and you're lucky if it starts. In this case, a poor connection somewhere, glow plug problems, and or a weak battery would all be overcome by simply making it spin, but good!!!

I don't like to advise anyone with out a good bit of experience to use ether (quick start) on a diesel, too much chance for an ooopsey! I like to tell people to use WD-40 or something like that instead. Besides, the white smoke was a giveaway that it was already getting some fuel, the problem was more likely lack of ignition, a faster spin helps that, both because of the speed, but also because it makes more heat at a faster spin to light up without the glow plugs.

wny770; Are you using common no. 2 furnace fuel without any additives to control jelling? Diesel fuel and furnace oil are the same basic thing except diesel fuel has an additive package to help lube your fuel injection systen and nothing to prebent jelling. No doubt the fuel is jelling and clogging your fuel filters. I think I would drain the fuel tank, change the filters, then put in diesel fuel with some Power service to prevent jelling and your troubles will go away. Best of luck. Frank.

If you could not do it they would not sell the plug ends. I use an extension cord for my 460VAC 3phase welder and plasma cutter. Just make sure you have the correct size wire. Go to you local electric supply house and tell them what you want to do and they will get you what you need. I used 4/0ga.for my equipment. You will only need 3/1 or 3/2
