Seriously though, maybe you are just the guy to create the Mother (or Father) of Surveys. Are ya up to the challenge? Me thinks you are! Whatayasay?

Here's some of the challenge: Will it be sub-CUTs, CUTs, etc.? Or by engine size/HP? Or will it be by manual versus hydro versus _____. Plastic body panels versus metal versus plastic hoods with metal fenders? Ag tires versus Industrial versus Turf? 3 cyl versus 4? Springy seat versus no springy seat? Cab, no cab. Tilt wheel versus no tilt. Cruise control, no cruise. Handmade cab versus store bought? Aftermarket cab versus factory? Or no cab at all?

Then you'll need some sort of scoring system. I got nothin' on that one.

I think it would be interesting to see how it does shake out.

Reminds me of when I bought a new Neew Holland skid steer few years back. The local Caterpillar dealer paid a woman to do research on why they lost the sale. I told the researcher that Cats were way out of my league costwise. And I told her that Cats were too costly all the way around. Later I got a call from a local salesman. We sat down and ran the numbers on a similarly equipped machine as the New Holland. It was about the same dollar for dollar. But I had committed to buy the NH and went through with it.

I would put it up against the Kubota. But that is just by 10 minutes looking over it with out the tractor running.

I used to see trades that the tires would freeze in the winter. You know it happens all the time. Farmers are cheap.

As far as the TZ. I have seen them with filled tires when I was working with them every day. Price vs. benefit is very very small.

What about those nuts hauling logs. Crap is flying off the logs in a constant stream. All they have is one little red rag hanging off the longest log. There cannot be very much requirements on log haulers. The up right stantions are all bent out of shape. What a joke.

Firsttractor,

I bought a Farm Pro 25hp 4wd with FEl. The only problem I have had has been minor. I dug a 40' X 40' 5' deep garden pond using the Fel in red clay. It carried all of the wood, concrete, tools, and dirt to build two 100' sea walls. I have not had to get parts and I hope that farm pro will be there when I need them. It cost half of what the other brands wanted. It does all I need. Greg is correct you will need to have some tools. Mine does leak here and there but I can buy a lot of hyd. fluid for $10,000. I do not think I would buy one for Industrial work.

Earthworks, now that worries me! For the forty plus years I've been around hydro's the closest weight I could tell you for good life is about a 10 weight. Some companies have tried heavier but they also wore out the trans sooner.

Be sure the spacer and PTO will miss each other. If not be sure you remove the spacer when using a PTO shaft.

We sold one that another dealer had put together with the big turfs, not the best as they hung out about six inches on each side. The owner had a fellow build a set of plates to bring the snow in from the outer six inches to the augers. In hard packed snow or wet snow it works a little harder to get the snow to move, that does put a lot of stress on the rest of it but for fresh fallen lake effect it works good.

Buying BitDefender for second computer. Notice there is a second BitDefender for about twice the price. (Did not see it when I bought first time.) It has anti spam software in it. My IP just added Barracuda and it really has helped on the spam issue.

I'd lean towards the Kubota as they also designed the tractor and would know what the limitations of the chassis are. Less problems all the way around for an owner as Kubota has been building tractor subframes that don't hinder the ground clearence for years with some of the best performance.
If it was a Kubota with the factory cab where their backhoe won't go on and with the additional setback of the woods frame then there is not much choice. I like the backhoes tight to the tractor chassis and then you have a stronger frame with less leverage to break the tractor.
The subframes that extend below the tractor often hinder quick change of belly mounted implements as mounts need to be exchanged often making it a real chore to change for repeditive yard duties.
You might be suprised as years ago(in the 80's) a popular 85 horsepower farm tractor didn't have as large if a hydraulic system as the 3830 and then the pto pumps were needed but today they are not as strong as Kubota puts in the tractor

Looks like you've already figured it out, but just for the record I had a similar problem with my 3110hst a couple of years back. there was snow up under the seat in the switch area. I never did figure out EXACTLY what it was, but it was clearly related to the snow since once I got everything cleaned out real good the problem went away. I built a snow-proof shed for my tractor this year. Alas, no snow far this year of any consequence.

Mike, From what I see you have been doing I am thinking a little different then you. I haven't seen to many tractors come out of the woods unscared from limbs and trees so I often recommend a cab that doesn't have to much plastic and glass. I know that the glass that's in the Kubota cabs gives the operator great visability as well as comfort from heat and cold. When they first introduced their cab tractors ten years ago they were an instant hit and it took years for the other companies to catch up and in the process we have seen a couple of so to speak (woods tractors) come back in for some expensive repairs.
I'd go up another chassis size to the four cylinder version and gain more on the hydraulics and weight as well, I'd look closer at the Curtis or Sims cabs as they do open up nice during the summer although they don't offer air conditioning.
I know the hydro has advantages in different jobs for performance but much of what you've described but I'd tent to go more with the GST transmission or the gear drive by nature here depending on who's operating the tractor. The new Grand L series has a new configuration for the hydro that has some features to it that might make it a better choice yet. It also has some fuel savings built into it that is going to set the industry back with a proven design from their lawn mowers.
These are just some thoughts for you to ponder, your old L in many areas that the weight was displayed was less the wheels and tires and it actually weighs very close to the 3430 depending on the ballast that you've been using.
