Is this going to be too small? I'm guessing I'm going to be a couple of inches wider than my blower if I bought this one; It's a local deal and used, and clearing the drifted in snow is taking quite a while with just the fel since I can't "push" at an angle... <br>

I don't have the time to do my plow setup and am thinking of buying this blower if I won't regret it being just a bit skinnier - We live in 4wd country anyway, I just want to be able to do a couple of passes.<br>

I'd lean towards the Kubota as they also designed the tractor and would know what the limitations of the chassis are. Less problems all the way around for an owner as Kubota has been building tractor subframes that don't hinder the ground clearence for years with some of the best performance.
If it was a Kubota with the factory cab where their backhoe won't go on and with the additional setback of the woods frame then there is not much choice. I like the backhoes tight to the tractor chassis and then you have a stronger frame with less leverage to break the tractor.
The subframes that extend below the tractor often hinder quick change of belly mounted implements as mounts need to be exchanged often making it a real chore to change for repeditive yard duties.
You might be suprised as years ago(in the 80's) a popular 85 horsepower farm tractor didn't have as large if a hydraulic system as the 3830 and then the pto pumps were needed but today they are not as strong as Kubota puts in the tractor

Correct, RimGuard is non-corrosive to ferrous metals. I'm told it's processed beet juice. I assume you want more rear weight to counterbalance a FEL. If the loader stays on the tractor permanently, I'd ballast the tires. If the loader comes off regularly, I'd go with TPH ballast.

Foton is a recent name change, so you may have seen some in their previous life (they first came to America as Futian). The change came after the Chinese were slapped with a tradedress suit by New Holland a few years ago. Apparently NH wasn't so much concerned about the hood/grill as they were the color. There was a brief period when imports were halted by the lawsuit, while Futian stopped painting them blue. When imports resumed, the red version became the Fotons sold today.

Like I said, how the law IS and how it's selectively ENFORCED are two different things. Here in 'sippipi I see not one in-state dump truck with a tarp. Not only that, they allow built up dirt/sand/clay to stay on surfaces other than inside of the bed like on top of the tailgate, on top of bed rails, on the hitch, on the bumper, etc. Somedays the freeways look like dirt a road with stuff falling off. Some of the guy who have been sued for breaking another motorist's window put decals on the truck to "STAY BACK 300'" and "NOT RESPOSNBILE FOR BROKEN WINDSHIELDS" or "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ROCKS THROWN UP FROM ROADWAY". Apparently these decals carry a lot of weight, as so many have them. The Lousiana DOT told me that Miss. DOT doesn't enforce the weight rating on a trailer---I've seen (and driven with) guys using a Ford Super Duty to pull a Cat 315 excavator (I believe 40 lb. worth), D4 high track dozers (MUCH bigger than a D4). Decals for their buisness on the truck doors---unheard of. And DOT numbers---what's that? Leaking engine oil and hydrulic oil adds character. Louisiana has a diffeent approach to being oveloaded weightwise: They look at the vehicle's GWVWR placard and compare it to the actual weight. If you're over, no biggie, just pay a $50 or $100 fine! Git-R-Done!

Looks like you've already figured it out, but just for the record I had a similar problem with my 3110hst a couple of years back. there was snow up under the seat in the switch area. I never did figure out EXACTLY what it was, but it was clearly related to the snow since once I got everything cleaned out real good the problem went away. I built a snow-proof shed for my tractor this year. Alas, no snow far this year of any consequence.

Mike, From what I see you have been doing I am thinking a little different then you. I haven't seen to many tractors come out of the woods unscared from limbs and trees so I often recommend a cab that doesn't have to much plastic and glass. I know that the glass that's in the Kubota cabs gives the operator great visability as well as comfort from heat and cold. When they first introduced their cab tractors ten years ago they were an instant hit and it took years for the other companies to catch up and in the process we have seen a couple of so to speak (woods tractors) come back in for some expensive repairs.
I'd go up another chassis size to the four cylinder version and gain more on the hydraulics and weight as well, I'd look closer at the Curtis or Sims cabs as they do open up nice during the summer although they don't offer air conditioning.
I know the hydro has advantages in different jobs for performance but much of what you've described but I'd tent to go more with the GST transmission or the gear drive by nature here depending on who's operating the tractor. The new Grand L series has a new configuration for the hydro that has some features to it that might make it a better choice yet. It also has some fuel savings built into it that is going to set the industry back with a proven design from their lawn mowers.
These are just some thoughts for you to ponder, your old L in many areas that the weight was displayed was less the wheels and tires and it actually weighs very close to the 3430 depending on the ballast that you've been using.

KT if it was just my land you would be correct. My oldest has 15 acres of all wood. I am surounded by state land and that is $15 per standard cord. If I get that and have the time. I also barter (not really. I buy the Logs incase the IRS reads this) ;-) logs with another neighbor.

Bought that old spreader (it came full of compost) at a auction for $35.00

The 2 local farmers where I hunt Coyotes and woodchucks have over 1500 acres. Of course the field stone they have is the other reason for dump.

I have a trout stream in my back yard and I'd like to install some gabion baskets along a couple bends. Just so happen to have some baskets at work that are bent and the state would not let them be used. I say waste not. My boss (one of the owners) will let me have them.

That also applies to "All Natural" and many other things in our lives. Such a shame, I remember a company stated that they had a shuttle shift, after a bit of talk they felt that to have a forward gear in line with a reverse gear would qualify as a shuttle!

The JD tech. I talked to mentioned the same you did ,to go over the udercarriage for loose wires. I'm going to do this as soon as I get a chance and hopefully I can find the problem , without having to bring it in .I'll let you know how I make out . Thanks again .

Brown what Murf is referring to with ATV tires is that typically they have a flatter-profiled tread (more surface area) and more gripping bars (surface area) that are sometimes offset or arranged in a pattern such that they offer superior gripping. And most have gripping bars on the sidewalls offering even more traction.

Here's a definition of traction I got off Google:
"The amount of forward thrust that a wheel can provide before it slips. It is the product of the weight bearing down on the wheel (generally 25 per cent of the vehicle weight on a level road) and the coefficient of friction, which depends on the nature of the tyre and the surface of the road. Traction helps determine the steepest road a vehicle can climb."

As far as my comment about driving on snow and traction on same here's the distintion: drivablity or the ability to make locomotion are not the same as traction. A lot depends on the type of snow, ambient temp, if it has a frozen crust, if it has melted and then frozen, or if it's just the light fluffy stuff, etc., etc.. On some types of snow you don't need a lot of "traction" if you can get on top of it, or power through it.

Getting into "traction", in cases where say, car tires are used they can provice superior traction to a big, burly 4wd truck style tire because of the car tire's ability to pick up and hold snow in between the voids in the tread. As the tire rotates, the snow in the tire tread actually sticks to the snow on the pavement, which is why some tires tires work great on ice and some don't--it's not always the rubber compound. And I didn't even touch on tire siping.

Traction can be a function of many things. Weight is one as mentioned above. Type of surface, its texture and composition are another. Type of tire is another big factor such as how many traction bars versus few, how big the bars are and the composition.

Here's another way of looking at it: If you were walking on ice you could walk on it with most any type of shoe. Your traction is very minimal (gravity is more likely the reason you're able to walk), or rather, adequate or sufficent for locomotion. Now, I have placed a heavy box on a table placed on the ice. I ask you pick it up and walk with it. Yeah, the box is a little heavy but you're still able to walk without slipping your feet. Gravity at work here. Put the box down and try to push it across the ice. This is where traction comes into play. You'll find that it's now your weight pushing horizontally against another weight and so your feet start to slip.

Don't worry so much about the spelling, lots of us have fingers that are faster than our eyes or brain. ;)

If you are getting a loud squeal at low speeds and only in cold weather, it's most likely not a bearing noise. It takes either tremdous load, or a VERY bad bearing to make it make a loud noise, especially the big bearings in the front axle.

Bear in mind also, just because the engine is up to running temperature, it doesn't mean the hyd. fluid isn't still very cold.

I'd be willing to bet the squeal you're hearing is the relief valve in the hyd. system, it's opening because the thickness of the fluid caused by the low temps is causing too much pressure.

You can buy a magnetic style heater at any good auto parts place, they come in a veriety of heat outputs, from about 75 watts up to about 300 watts. Get a 150 or 200 watt one and stick it one the bottom of the transmission case for a few hours and see if that doesn't cure the problem.

KT,

Thanks for the concern. I had a doctor visit scheduled for six weeks after I quit the stuff last winter. He disagreed that the Lipitor was causing my problems but I had done enough research to confirm it. I believe that no doctor is going to admit that something with such widespread use is bad, think of the law suits. But about one in ten is subject to some nasty side effects according to the manufacturer's own research! Too bad for you if you are in that minority.

My numbers are now where they should be simply by watching what I eat and supplementing with fish oil.

My former manager was crippled up so badly with the statin he switched to natural remedies (red rice yeast?) and now has excellent numbers.

Bottom line is that I learned not to rely on pills to fix everything. I did more damage to myself by not researching in advance and by not doing everything I could to bring my numbers down naturally. You know, that comfortable feeling you get when sitting with your doctor and his intern and they tell you that "you really need to take this pill, it is good for you".

So for Dennis and the others here that have lost weight and are trying to improve their health through diet, way to go! In my view, carbohydrate reduction and elimination of sugars is the key. Without exception, every time I have lost weight in the past and returned to a high-carb diet I pile the fat back on.

The YM195 specs should be the best specs. Most of the larger 2 cylinder models use the same specs. The YM135 & YM155 use different specs.
