Well, it's just a quirk of math and physics really.

It started out as fluke, based on the "hit & miss" engines of the time, and became the signature sound for a whole reutation based around the "Poppin' Johnnies".

Basically the theory then was not to have a steady, almost continous series of detonations feeding power to the flyweel which smoothed the power out and kept it constant and not just in spurts which is hard on both man & machine.

Bear in mind, the only thing they had to base their designs on at the time was horses or mules or oxen, and anyone who has ever worked a draft animal will tell you, under sever load, or when starting a heavy load, a horse will break stride and kick out. That is to say, they don't push with one leg at a time, they lean forward into the traces against the load, squat slightly and give a big mighty push with both hind legs at once.

So, when 'horsepower' got mechanised, they had only this example. The early engines, especially the hit & miss ones, had an enormous flywheel and a relatively few 'kicks' from the power strokes, spun it up and lept it spinning, and it was just the stored energy in that flywheel that did the work, not each power stroke against the crankshaft like todays engines do.

The math & physics enter into it because when John Deere designed the 2 cylinder engines, the did something unusual, they didn't spead out the strokes over the entire circle. Various historians think this was because they either, designed the engine as a 4 cyl. and cut it in half, or designed it such that it had 'room for expansion' later on. Nobody knows for sure.

We do know, that the two power strokes are at 0� and at 180�, and then the engine coasts for 540� and then the whole process starts over again. It is this 'pop, pop, coast' that gives them their distinctive sound.

Why they didn't have them fire at 0� and 360� to even things out? Well, we do know that there was one really good reason, shake!! Having them fire at 0�& 360� on a 2 cylinder motor would have meant that both pistons hooked to the crank on the same side, the crank would have been a U-shape instead of a Z-shape. This would have caused a huge shake in the machine.

Of course 3 or 4 cylinders would have solved this problem too, but that's not what they did.

Regardless of the reasoning, I'm glad they did it the way they did. I've got a JD AR that has been in the family since new, it still looks that way too. Every year it appears in countless parades, and you can see the people stop and stare, especially the old-timers when it comes pop, pop.....poppin by them. :)

Mine is not what you may be looking for but I have model about same as your's. While holding the key in the crank position with all levers where then need to be, gently move each one a little each way and you probably will find the switch that is the problem if it is just slipped or a littel out of postion.

I was abourt to adjust switch so it was clear in neutral when it hit me, good anti theft system so I two years later pulling that lever ever so lightly when cranking.

With tractors as dangerouos as they can be with all that is moving, I sure would hate to by pass any safety switch.

Have found 2 sources so far: Toro (you mentioned) and Agrimetal (Quebec firm with a NC distributor). Challenge seems to be one of PTO horsepower - only one model - Agrimetal BW 240 is in the range of B7610 18 Hp PTO capability. Most want 25-30 PTO Hp.

Willie - any info on price range and/or experiences with a blower implement.

I'd really recommend getting steel over the tire tracks. I'm a dealer now of TracksPlus tracks and can get you a good price.

Old Baird the guy with the 53 Chev also had about #1 or 2 Mercedes diesel car. It was prewar and has near a million km when I last saw it. Mercedes supplied parts just to keep it on the road. The medallions basically filled the tiny grill. I doubt old Baird knew what performance was on the road, although he claimed to be a pilot in Korea and broke both legs in a crash. He walked with a limp so who knows. Maybe he decided he wasn't going to travel that fast again, both vehicles had a hard time keeping up with traffic.

pump runs off of the cam and unless the can jumpds it shold not change time, prior to monday the pump was not off. when putting it back of will use same shims as i took off so it should be the same timming. unless someone knows how it would get off timming, if so let me know please.

Jason is right, those are Parker fittings. When I hooked up the dump trailer to my 4310 I found the fittings and couplers at the local True Value hardware store. That place has saved me more times than I can count.

Also check the 1/4" pipe that the pressure gauge is on, if it is corroded and crap busted off it may be lodged in there causing eradick readings. One more easy one to do, take some sand paper and clean the contact points on your pressure switch, I had one that needed cleaning.

I have a Kioti LK 3054 about a 2000 model, to ajust the clutch where the pressure plate fingures make contact with the throw out bearing is there special tools for this I cannot seem to get a wrench in that small opening and turn the bolts or lock nuts ,,HELP.

Pretty sure Bransons are Korean, But where you buy the tractor relates directly to how you plan to get it fixed. If you are a good mechanic with a fair amount of tools and a reasonable place to work, price is more important than dealer location. If you don't plan on doing much of your own tractor maintenance, buy local<br>

JimP and I both have the 650 Woods, and not unlike JimP, every now and then, the little bugger sticks a bit. Wd40, PBBlaster, any of these penetrants will work to spray on and seep in for a bit.
My recommendation, however, is not to use a metal surface to contact the press/release button on the pump coupler. Rather use a piece of wood, approx. 1 in x1 in., and tap that with the hammer against the press button.
Two reasons: number one, everyones -tap- is different in strength, and one could very well pein over or mushroom the press button, to the point where it won't depress.
Secondly, remember your thumb USUALLY will be able to depress this button. If you smack it with a hammer, a burr may develop, that you don't know of or cannot see. The next thing is a tetanus shot at the local clinic as your hand is bleeding out! Use a small block of non marring material.
