I have a BX2230 with less than 10 hours on it, and I've already driven around with the brake on. Man, I felt like an idiot. Glad to hear someone else has done it too. REALLY glad to hear I did no damage.

You know what I'd like a light for? Not the brake, but for RPM's. How do I know how fast I'm turning the engine when throttling up/down on the 2230? More importantly , does it matter as long as the engine isn't straining?

As you mentioned the time the power could remain off is the issue most can't afford. It's not the cost of material or labor.

One issue that some do not realize is the existing type of cable used between the meter and panel box (3 wire) has to be changed to a different type (4 wire)when the transfer switch is added in between.

Now you add in that the existing panel and meter base may not be back to back. Because of code changes from the time the house was built to the day you are ready to add the wiring for a gen. set may cause a lot more work than most realize.

Permits, scheduling the utility to turn the power off, the electrician to do the work, scheduling the inspection department to inspect the work, the utility getting back to install the existing meter, everything better go as planned to make this happen all in one day.

Where we work it is the inspection departments that hinder the one day deal. They won't let us schedule an inspection at a certain time during the day. You have to call the day before to set up an inspection, you call at 8:30 am the morning of the inspection to find out what number you are. You could be number 1. That means they will be there in about 15 minutes. When you hear that you know the homeowners are going over night without power. If you are a high number that means they won't be inspecting until late in the day, that doesn't give the utility any time to do their work after the inspection.

For the size of property if under an acre it gets to be a tough call. The BX would handle far more and give a lot of additional options for different jobs. I like to recommend the largest deck and smallest tractor for manuverability and the ability to save the new cosmetics from tree limbs and such from trimming. After many people get thru remaking their property they don't need all the attachments and economically for a couple of weekends with a rental unit might be able to get by with a garden tractor. It really does depend on the individual. One thing that I wanted to add in here, under no circumstances would I recommend a garden tractor with a hoe and loader to a Bx size tractor. The real value here is going to be the Sub-compact tractor for the money.

If time is critical which it often is when kids and family are involved what you need is a larger machine to do the clearing fast, but then it means you lose the versatility to maintain later. I'd recommend the L-48 which is the largest machine available in it's class if cost is no object for one machine. Second if possible buy a larger machine and get the work done faster yet and just replace it with something to maintain the work you've accomplished with something that would fit your day to day chores.

You will get help aplenty on this site. Ok, for starters, how big of hay bales are you needing to move? That will determine your minimum loader capability or your minimum 3 point if you use a 3 pt bale fork.

Then how big of a bushhog do you want to run (based on time spent cutting). That will determine a minimum PTO hp. That would help get you started on models and help us better help you in determining possible tractors.

I'm not sure but have been investigating Kioti along with Branson (local dealer), Kubota, Mahindra, and Lenar (other posts have convinced me to stay away from Lenar). I got a quote for a new 2005 CK25 HST with loader for $14,325 and a $675 cash rebate (taken off at purchase). I also got a price for a 2006 CK30 HST with loader for $16,140 less $675 cash rebate. I don't know if this helps any...

I am looking through both links above and I think there is a mix up on their info or I am confused. I have an SD 2200 (says it right there on the hood and the name plate on side of the tranny), but mine is a two cylinder (not 3), it is a 4WD (not 2WD), and I have ordered parts for it based on the info from the tractor and the parts were correct. Where are they getting that the SD 2200 is a 3cyl, 2WD??? I don't have any other model differences such as SD 2203 or anything like that, it is an SD2200 without question. Maybe mine is older than the ones they are listing??

Chief thats a good call and the only thing I'd add is to run it for a bit first, it should be done before the unit hit's ten hours. For the most part I've not heard of to much not being tightened leaving the dealers yards in a while.

That's good to know. I tend to always lean to the over maintenance side instead of the lack of maintenance side, so things should be good. Also, thanks for the added info on # of cylinders.

Close but no cigar.

I see the similarities you pointed out but I see more differences. The basic specs don't quite match up either (HP, 3PH cap., hydraulic pump output, etc.)

Besides, I have never heard of a rebadged Kubota in sold N. America. Agco is Massey Ferguson's parent company. If anything it's a rebadged GC2300.

Reflectix is pretty good stuff. I used it under my heated concrete floor to reflect the heat up (see pic #5 of my pics). I also used it in addition to 4" thick insulation when insulating my barn. I had to slit the reflectix in that instance - to avoid a double vapor barier with the 4" insulation and the reflectix. I does a great job of "reflecting" the sun during the summer months, and also reflecting the heat in during the winter months. For comparison purposes, my 50 year old house (1200 sq. foot) costs more than 50% of what my 3200 sq' foot barn costs to heat, which has a 'leaky' overhead door (my barn is also my office - so it's the same temperatur of my house).

When I poured my foundation, I ran some tubing from my house through the foundation (heated pour). Where the tubing was exposed outside, I wrapped it in reflectix to prevent heat loss. When it snowed, the reflectix collected snow before the grass, even though there was tubing carrying 100 degree water inside of it!

I had a BX2200, fel, mmm. It did the jobs but just real slow. After 100 hours I traded it in to dealer for B7800. Have never regretted the move. Looked at L series but I have 5 acres of hill side and yard. I don't do plowing of acres or farm work, I do big yard work. I have boxblade, reseader, rear finish mower and tiller with front end loader. From BX to B is another whole level up. Guess would be the same up to L if it's a farm. Again, for the money difference it was worth it to me to move up to the B7800.

A bull dozer for a half day would do wonders to get rid of the stumps, clear the bigger rocks out and get you down to some dirt if you have any.

A rock hound or harley rake is good for picking up small rocks, basically used for preparing dirt for grass. Most lanscapers have them. They kind od beat the rocks into submission, don't remove rocks from soil like a plow does, probably not what you want.

Thanks Greg, I just couldn't think of the date, October 25, 1976.

It doesn't matter if the tractor is "previously owned" either.

If it was made after that date it MUST have a ROPS & seat belt, or be exempted.

BTW, it applies equally to homeowners in certain instances too. If you give the neighbours kid a few bucks to bush hog thr back 40 this requirement applies.

Anybody who gets a buck for the seat time is covered.
