I use my FEL to compact loads in the dump trailer but I have to point it straight down and use the cutting edge for it to do any good.

Can you get a cross-ways to the dumpster and fit the edge in corner to corner?

Ben, the down'n'dirty way to make a cheap (and exactly the weight you want) counter balance is to use a cheap plastic garbage can or plastic barrel as a form. Just use a box cutter to make two holes for the drawbar to be stuck through.

If you roughly calculate the weight you need, divide it by the weight per pound, then estimate how far up the form you have to fill it to acheive that.

When it's cured, you have two choices, leave the remainder of the container sticking up, it makes a dandy carry-all for gloves, chains, etc., or trim it off.

The plastic also helps with appearance and integrity, if you back into something the form helps hold it from cracking, it also looks more finished.

Since the BX1500 is 4wd, a balance between front/rear traction must be regained. Front tires should be ballasted proportionate to the rears.<br>

Fully understand.

Insurance can vary a lot by each state (outside of the Fed laws and regulations). Look at your State Dept of Insurance for options for your wife. Also, if you or your wife has group coverage available, normally the person can be covered there period. There may be other options. Sometimes you must find some one who can think outside of the normal box.

I don't plan on selling mine for a long, LONG time, but new BX/B models are top sellers at dealerships. If their popularity is that high, you might surmise that used ones should sell fairly well too. Of course you'll take the biggest hit in first year or two, then the depreciation will level off a bit. You could check out Equipment Trader and Ebay to see what the going prices are for similar aged models now.

The 2005 Sportsman 400 is comfortable, powerful and unstoppable. I use it (in the North East) for woodlot work and snow plowing a 200 foot driveway. It's a fun tool, and no handling problem for this 71-year old. Just take your time learning to handle it if you, like me, never had one before.

I live in northern USA and own a Belarus "572" with cab. I am having trouble getting much heat out of the cab heater. Seems like tractor runs fairly cool even with shutters closed. Is there anyway of redoing anything as to get more heat out of the heater. Others complain of similar problems. Would greatly appreceiate any info on this. Thanks Richard

Yep, an Optima or similar AGM battery is the way to go. Check your cranking amps to make sure the replacement has enough power.

Years ago friends told me of the Alberta government pulling down a grain elevator on the border. They called for people with rat terriers, Jack Russells and another bread I can not recall. Most of the dogs had not seen a rat before. As the elevator came down and was burned the rats started to spread in all directions. The terriers started running, catching the rats, breaking their necks and then attacking the next rat. The owners were shocked. Maybe a Jack Russell would be the answer?

I just noticed your photos and comments regarding green vs. orange, and would like to hear your pros/cons of the two machines you have now? I would (guess??) the 4115 is much more capable, but I sense you like the orange better? Reason for asking, I'm wanting to do something, not sure what in terms of my next step and would appreciate the insight.

If you are questioning whether to get one or not, I had one installed in my 4310 when I bought it. That way, I'm ready to go no matter the temp. I haven't had to use it yet as temps haven't dropped below 0 in the 1.5 winters I've had the tractor. But you just never know...

1. I like the idea of the plow being attached to the loader arms because of ground clearance. All of the frame mounted plows I have seen (and I admit I have not looked into them too much) seem to restrict ground clearance, either due to the amount the blade can be raised or the sub frame I have seen some of them have.<br>

2. During the winter I can get by without the bucket; we muck stalls into a Kawasaki Mule and dump it in a back field. I sometimes have to push the pile, but don't have to scoop it up.<br>

3. The Curtis unit is a manual angle, which I am used to but agree, it is a pain. I know Cutis sells the same unit with a cylinder on it -- I wonder if it can be added later?<br>

4. The Curtis blade, used, is double (or more) what it will cost me to rig up an old plow that I will chain onto the bucket. I am inclined to go for the Curtis unit, but am hesitant about it being too big for the tractor. What I am hearing is that with proper ballast it should work fine.<br>
