I would check your base signal strength on the system. You many have some thing blocking you or has your alignment moved? I had a problem in the summer with the direct. I finally tracked it down to the trees growing taller and the leaves on the trees in the Summer.

Grophers are not something we have, but this may work.

I have heard of people running auto's exhaust into the ground for rat tunnels and the carbon monoxide killing the rats. I suspect even a lawnmower engine would be sufficient.

I don't know if you can find it there or if license is needed but they make a gas to kill weed seeds in seed beds for tobacco plants. It use to be buyable in same cans underpressure that you could run a small rubber tube into rat tunnels that also killed them. That gas is not something you want to breath either. Have never heard of anyone being killed by it but being made sick different story.

Warning, if you do either of these or similiar, be sure to cover all openings. I guess gophers will but I know rats will run faster out than you can jump if you don't and they will not be killed. They will run up your leg or over you if not careful.

What's been stated about the 1/4" valve is true in our case, but to a lesser extent. I have gotten used to the action of the valve, and also installed a position indicator so we know where the 3-pt is at all times. With time you get used to the valve, but it isn't position control. With either valve, adjusting the height of an implement to clear objects would take some fussing around, position control or not. I'm not sure the valve type has much to do with that problem.

You should be a ware that there is another major difference between the 7800/2910 and the 30 series tractors. The PTO engagement on the 30 series tractors is hydraulic, therefore the pto can be engaged and disengaged without clutching. Since the tractor is hydrostatic and the pto's are hydraulic, there really isn't a lot of use for a clutch. Being able to engage and disenage pto's on the fly is a nice feature, maybe even nicer than the position control. You don't have this feature on the 2910 either.

We have the 7800, although modified, it has been a great machine for us and always ready to work.

Doc, if the ground is very flat, and the driveway well maintained there is little need for a crown.

I do not however understand how it can create a mess though, please explain it a little.

The problem is that inevitably wheel tracks will appear in a travelled road, then water starts to run in those tracks, ALONG the road, instead of sideways & OFF of the road. This will cause erosion.

I have seen good-sized sections of roadway completely washed away by surprisingly light rains, especially right around the time of snow melt in the spring.

Murf,

I have a new l4430 that I would like to mount a front blade on for snow removal. Kubota wants close to 4 grand for their setup. Are you saying that you use a standard truck snowplow blade and adapt it to your kubota somehow? If so, how is it done and what is the overall cost? Do you set it up with Hyrdraulic lift and angling capabilities as well?

I would say it depends on what you are using and doing. If you are using a vehical on the road it would differ from my approach. Here in N. Wisc. on most years we will get some 30-40 below weather. The last couple years havent had as much. I use a 50-50 blend of #1 and #2 diesel fuel which I get in 6 gallon cans. Also, my 2 tractors are in my wood shed, which is always about 10-20 degrees warmer.
I also rarely would have a reason to use my tractors when that cold. If I do, I run my salamander heater for a couple hours before starting. Have never put any additive in, but I dont need to use them(only rarely).
Your situation is probably different, but just wanted to give you my approach.

I've eaten hydrophonicly grown tomatoes from a green house that gets warm water from a powerplant. They tasted ok to me, but it was also midwinter in Minnesota. Still real hard to beat a homegrown vine ripened tomato. Frank.

Murf and Yoop did a nice job of explaining the differences. Personnally, dirt is easier. If dirt is sloppy with moisture, you can wait for it to dry out. With snow, you have no option. If it's heavy and wet, you have got to get it removed.

About 2 winters ago, they predicted a big storm, but we'd only get 1"-2" of the stuff where I live. We actually got the full brunt. Over 13" of heavy wet snow. The old 2wd tractor I had turned that slop into ice as soon as you spun a tire on it. It was bad. I got the tractor stuck on the uphill slope of the driveway because it had turned to ice. I was ready to shove the tractor into the yard and wait for spring. Ugly ugly mess. But on the positive side, it convinced the wife to let me get a new tractor with MFWD. That MFWD makes a huge difference in handling the wet sloppy snow.

Personally, I like the snow. It covers the dry brown dead look of winter. But I do admit that sometimes I don't like it when I am outside at 4:30 am at 0 degrees F or colder with a 30+ mph wind clearing snow. But dang, it wakes you up and gets the blood flowing!

I say to consider what your PRIMARY uses of the tractor will be. If mowing in basically straight lines, then the P/R will be fine. But if you need to mow around a bunch of obstacles like trees, outbuildings, etc, then the hydro would be more flexible.

If you are primarily doing heavier loader work, then the P/R may be better. I'm got a 4310 hydro and have not lacked for power with the loader. But the hydro is awesome for mowing. It's also easy for my wife to use and any guests I have. In fact, it's so nice easy, my guests often volunteer to mow for me.

Look at you application and then decide. Tight spaces - hydro. More open, hard implement work - P/R.

I guess some of us grunts have learned to enjoy what we are able to get our hands on (LOL).

The factory cabs are certainly nice units, but for starting without one, these aftermarket cabs are pretty nice. The biggest advantage the factory cabs have is visibility. The visibility is so much better in those units, it takes some getting used to in the aftermarket cabs.

Winter will return...probably sonner than later.

Lee, not to sound too harsh here, but I personally think the dealer went at least the extra mile, it doesn't sound like a warranty issue to me.

In 30+ years of snow removal I've never heard of, or seen a skid plate for a snow plow.

Chalk it up to being part of the more vertical area of the learning curve.

We maintain many, many miles of private gravel roads, one of the first things we do at the start of every season is a road patrol. We dig out rocks that have surfaced, mark culverts or other obstacles and look for trees or branches ready to come down in a big storm.

The american bolts are as Billy stated. However, I have seen bolts with 2 marks on them indicating a grade 4 bolt. Normally they start at three marks indicating a grade 5 bolt. They can then have 4 marks for grade 6, 5 marks for grade 7 and 6 marks for grade 8. Nuts with dashes around the flat area that contacts the parts held together are hard nuts, grade 8 I think. Nuts that have an indentation on three of the flats that a wrench would touch are locking nuts.

I received an email from our company that one of our employees online experience with The Crab Place was terrible and has gone horrible. I wouldn't doubt that the person you spoke with was the owner Greg Cain himself. It got to a point that Mr. Cain has threatened our employee via email. The case was brought to FBI's attention since Mr. Cain's conduct was not only derogatory but an ASSAULT THREAT, a federal crime. The Online order transpired in October this year.
