Meta, your comment "They are greased very frequently." made me think, never a good thing, LOL .....

What type of grease are you using ?

We have found that some grease is much stiffer than others, on joints were there is significant 'pinch pressure' if you use a light grease it gets displaced by the load too easily on things like the FEL.

Try using a much stiffer grease like the stuff they sell for heavy truck suspensions.

We have two sets of grease guns for our units, one with light grease for lube only, and one with very heavy grease for FEL's and other 'extreme' applications.

I've been shying away from this thread for fear of skewing the results.

I'm NOT exactly the typical CUT consumer / owner, so my input would be of little use, however, Harvey's point got me to thinking a bit about this idea.

For the first number of years I was in business, I played Chinese Checkers with CUT's, job site, my yard, dealer, my yard, job site, etc., they spent more time on trailers than in the field working. It kept the machines in good repair and working though. Then I made a deal with my dealer, two days a week one of his mechanics (who lives really close to my yard) would work in MY shop on MY machines. This worked well, but the time delay was too much, if a machine broke down due to something simple on Friday, it wasn't fixed until Tuesday. Too much delay and down time.

Finally, I bit the bullet, and hired a full-time maintenance man. This was the magic potion, for a while. Now we have come full circle in the process. Now the problem is I have machines out on site 'for the duration' on big projects, that means the service guy & truck have to go there to do maintenance & repairs. Now there is no one to do work on the stuff back at the shop either.

This past summer we again 'bit the bullet', now we have added two more service trucks to the fleet, one of the operators who was a mechanic previously splits his time between operating & swinging a wrench, and a mechanic who just retired from a dealer nearby works a couple days a week on the road doing strictly maintenance stuff.

All in all though, I would say if you were to offer mobile service and maintenance you wouldn't be too short of work for the next 30 or 40 years. LOL.

Knock on the doors of some local businesses, contractors, landscapers, and golf courses. During most of the year they are far to busy to even think about fixing something themselves, or even sparing a person & truck / trailer to take it in for service.

If I get any more jobs in your area I'll know not send a service truck, I'll just use the local one..... ;->

Typically if the oil compression rings are not seating properly the slobber problem is from the crank case vent tube. Oil slobber from the exhaust could be an indication of an improperly installed or damaged valve stem oil seal as well as improperly or not yet seated oil contrl rings.

Harvey made a good point. A diesel engine is built to work hard and allowing it to idle excessively, especially with a recently rebuilt or manufactured engine is hard on them.

As already mentioned, a finish mower deck or rotary cutter would be a good means of placing a moderate load on the engine to work against. Try running it in this configuration for an hour or two paying CLOSE attention to the crank case breather tube and exhaust. The oil should burn off and clear up after about the first 10 or 15 minutes of running against a load, maybe longer depending upon outside temps. I see by your profile that you are in the northern climes and if installed, I would suggest plugging in your engine block heat for an hour or two prior to starting the engine. This will allow the engine to warm up as fast as possible.

Western Union is the catch! There is no recoarse on your money! Once sent it is gone! I buy a few things on e-bay as well as sell some from time to time and I prefer to buy from people who have paypal accounts. Most often I've found that many veichles are about 10% less then described and unless they are about 20% under value including the transportation I stay away. There may be some better quality items but I feel if they were worth top dollar they should be able to get it in their local market or at least close enough to make it an equal sale to the commision rate charged by ebay. That baring a non-airconditioned veichle or a snowmobile in Arizona!

I'll second the recommendation for a Ford N series. They'll do many of the things a more modern tractor will at the price you're looking at. Also they have a low center of gravity so they're quite safe from tipping over. Most 3PT implements you might buy will be sized well for an L series Kubota if you suddenly want one (like I did :) ). $2-4K should get you a good runner.

Seriously, you brought up two points.

First jack stands, no need to climb in or under, or do any fancy welding. You can use almost anything. It can be as simple as a piece of rope and two wooden blocks. Take two short(ish) pieces of timber a little smaller than the clearance from frame to ground. Put a screw eye in each end of both, tie a rope between them such that when one block is under the frame, the other is too, then tie a piece of rope to each outiside end also. Then all you have to do is set the blocks dwn behind the trailer, back up another foot or two, and then pull the rope till the blocks are under the frame tails. Voila! Best of all it's cheap! LOL.

On the other hand, the pintle, yes they are designed to lock down shut, but only over a lunette ring, they are to stay open with a ball hitch. However, if the latch mechanism is removed (one small nut & bolt usually) and ground down some, it can be set to 'lock down' while still open a little bit, enough for the coupler, but not enough to become unhitched.

The other (slightly more spendy) option is to just have a small set of stabilizers installed such as those used on RV's to auto level them. You can get them in individual components, cylinders, etc., seperately, and since you already have hydraulics and controls, installation (no welding required) would be easy to do yourself. You might want help with the hydraulics if you're unsure of how to do it. I'm sure the bunch here could guide you through it 'long distance', it's actually pretty simple.

Alan, When I got my Mits. 1600 used, it was very hard starting. I noticed air bubbles coming out from under the head. All I had to do was retorque the head and it fixed my compression problems. Check your head torque.

rpelleschi, the Argi-Fab Chip/Vac is what's at TSC. I have the larger model with 8 hp Tecumseh and chipper built in. It does work well.

I have the remote vacuum hose kit also and have used that in the flower beds and around trees. Works ok, but plugs easy.

Just bought a Husqvarna Commercial Backpack Blower that really works well for moving the leaves out where I just mow them with the Chip/Vac.

It is expensive but sure saves tons of time.

To get started there is a manual shuttle or a hydraulic shuttle. There are a minimum of four tire selections which also might include cast rear ballast built in or where you add it. What would you like for lighting? With the cab which radio tape or CD? Loader, self leveling Qick attach?

The other day, I put the loader on for this upcoming winter and I had a problem starting the tractor, as if it was in gear or front PTO on (safety lock-out). After checking that it was in neutral, brakes were on, and hefty me was on the seat, it still wouldn't start. I rolled it backward a little bit and was able to start it. This occurred again out back and I discovered the transmission range safety switch was the culprit. I jumpered it to get it back up into the garage to work on. The hydraulic fluid level is fine (checked on level surface). Has anyone had a bad one? Only 30 hours on TZ, but out of warranty.

I would check that quick coupler again going to the hydraulic pump, undo and redo. Sounds like you've got some back pressure not letting the engine turn freely. Let us know what you find. We also have any part you would need.

I use register.com and have 3 url's registered with the pointers to odyssey.net.

The trick is to find someone to host it. Currently I use odyssey.net to host. It is my local dial up provider and I can access it from work for big up and down loads.

I like the local approach because I can go in and pat my foot on the floor :-) plus other things when it all does not go right which is sometimes the case.

The most important thing is to get it warm or to operating temperature before asking it to perform any high torque or load situations. It is wise to vary the engine RPM during this time and you will see that the most performance is delivered about the 2/3 to 3/4 throttle mark.

Man, for the money I'd go with the 3520. The extra power will be nice and handy whenyou need it the most. I went from an old Oliver 2wd to a 4310. Night and day difference. You will really like the MFWD and the hydrostat when doing work. Yes it's a toy, but it feels so good to climb on board. Smiles makes it much less like work. Digging in the dirt is fun!

Now for the mower part: what type of mowing are you needing to do? That will determine the best mower type. If you want to do tall field work, then a 3 pt bush-hog/flail mower would be best. If you want a finished look, them consider a mid-mount or a 3 pt finish mower. But make sure you have a mid-pto on your tractor before buying a mid-mount. If you don't have one, the price goes higher as you'll need to add one.

I would consider doing more than 2 pounds per square yard of the flake so that I could solidify the surface but the county comes along with their road grader and would undo the work!

As solely a dust suppressant, how much liquid do you apply? It seems like I could be more accurate with the distribution of the liquid especially if there is any kind of wind blowing.

Billy, that seems high to me. However, I know they have gone up some since June when I bought mine (increased raw material costs). I paid $10,800 for the B7510 Turf Special model, which is a 4x4 hydro and includes the 60" Mid Mount Mower. It is a great deal if you need the mower. I will tell you it took some looking to get that price, and I had to go to a dealer an hour away to get it. The local dealer refused to match the price and got very angry with me about my price shopping. He stood on his $11,700 price, lost a sale and any chance of me ever setting foot in his store again.

I bought a set of the light duty ones. They arrived very quickly and are quite handy. I too was concerned about the cutting edge but the way they are designed it doesn't really stress the cutting edge. I've moved 3 railroad ties that were in pretty good shape and weighed about 200 to 250 lbs each. It does feel a little weired with weight that far out and that wide.
On another note I went to pick up a large stack of industrial pipe and the FEL wouldn't lift it and nothing was bent so it seems as long as you don't rip and tear it won't hurt the bucket. They are well worth the money.
