My wife has a JD lawn sweeper she uses mainly for leaves. It does pretty well if you pick up the leaves on almost a daily basis before they sink into the grass. After a rain matts the leaves down it just doesn't do too well, so then she mows it first to get the leaves loose from the grass. I don't think she has ever picked up grass clippings with it, she mows so often that there just aren't enough clippings to even see. Frank.

The seals should not be leaking with the age and use it has had. Is there any warantee left? The seals are not that hard to get out and there is not that great of cost, but you need to have a little experience. It is easy on some to damage the seal on replacement and then be no better off than you were before.
If it is a slow leak you can live with it for a time, just keep an eye on you hydraulic fluid. Most of us have seen and worked on an old beater backhoe that had self changing hydraulic fluid, you added a quart an hour.
I would recommend a 3pt with rear discharge for the price, but it depends on your grass and terrain. My ground is hard clay and the grass is centipee so you can not tell where the wheels have been.

Seems like a good idea but I wonder yow much stress the mounting puts on the bucket cutting edge. I would be concerned that the bucket could be bent.

Does anyone have the tech specs on the T2541 hydraulic 2 stage snow blower. looking for any insight on making this work correctly. It will not throw the snow very far. lacks power. Looking for the hydraulic specs- pressure and gallons per minute

Framtrac is a brand of farm tractor used in this area that might give you more hp for money than the Kubota. But be sure of your needs for remote hyd as they were limited. Not sure now. I have a 27 hp B Kubota and M series. You will need more horses than you think. 52 inch rotary mower is all the 27 Kubota needs but handles it very well. Just that size tractor and mower will be slow on amount you want to cut and will be a rough ride if not very smooth. A postive, will not bog as easy as heavier tractor and if it does lighter to pull out.

I have a simular set up with a walkout basement, but used insulated concrete forms. I don't have any problems with condensation. The system I used have 2.5" of polystyrene on the outside and 2.5" on the inside. I have humid air but the ground temperature is near 60 F so less problems with cold migration through the concrete.

Thanks again for all of your help. Hearing that about the blower helps me in that I understand that there is nothing wrong with either the blower or the tractor.

Now if I can find a used soft sided cab I should be in great shape for the winter.

It's almost a sure bet that your problem is with those 2 safety interlock switches (activated by the 2 shifter handles). Try this to prove it:

1) remove the guard plate from above and around the shifter handles.
2) locate the switches activated by the 2 shifter handles (you will see wires coming to and from each of them).
3) unplug the wires at the quick disconnects (they each are male-female mated pair).
4) intead of having each mated pair of quick disconnects running thru the switch, plug them into each other (you are now by-passing each safety interlock switch).
5) test this set-up for a while ---- betcha anything you'll never have another problem,

Just be damn sure you have the transmission in nuetral when you start it.

In testing these switches, I've noticed they seem to be a point of high resistance when they should be closed and having virtually zero resistance to current flow !

You can (or used to be able to) download the owners manual from the JD web site. Hardcopy manuals are spendy. I think the service manual is around $80-100, but worth it IMO. The parts manual is good to have, too, because it shows assembly breakdowns.

Thanks for the advice. This tractor is set-up with all mounts and hydraulics, etc. I am leaning towards the 3520. I have a hard time justifying spending this much on a tractor, when I grew up driving 2wd Allis D-17's and D19's with slow hydraulics and slipping hand clutches. But the tractor is also a toy for this big boy, and I would like to do all my lawn prep and landscaping myself. Was also looking at a 2000 4300/4wd/hydro/72mmm/430fel, but that dealer wanted 16800. Way overpriced. For a few thousand more, I can have an almost brand new machine.

If you can find any unused containers of Chlorodane (no longer manufactured) and treat the wood and area with it; that would be ideal but otherwise soaking the timbers in diesel fuel for a week or two and the area around the timber in the ground pretty well keeps the termites away. The EPA folks and enviromental advocates won't like it but it works. Just don't get carried away with the diesel fuel around the post part. ;O)

As a guy in the bug business for 20 yrs. Easiest way to get these fellas is at night. In addition, any insecticidal dust poured, squirted or dumped into the hole will do the job. Doesn't take a lot either, maybe an ounce or so. Number one rule is never to be holding the flash light when you do it. Have someone stand a short distance (15-20 feet) away and 90 degrees out from you pointing the light at the hole as you approach. Best trick is to put the dust in a bottle with a spout, like a plastic ketch up bottle. 2 quick squeezes in the hole and they will be gone by morning. The dust stays where you apply it and doesn't leach down in the water table as petroleum product do.
