I have a 1991 B7100 HST with 850 hours. It seems to run fine when first started up but after it runs for 20 minutes and warmed up, I cannot get maximum RPM and I looses power and quits. After I let it cool, it runs fine again for another 20 minutes. It does not smoke. I tried to clean the fuel filter but I cannot close the petcock. Should I disassemble the filter assembley ? Thanks in advance. Danny in San Diego.

My dad bought one new back in 1968, my brother has it now. It had a similar problem, it would run for a while then loose power and die. Dad had the carb fixed several times, where it would work for a while and the problem would return.

My brother who has it now finally found the cause. A small plastic cap from the tip of a gas can had dropped into the gas tank. It was just small enough to fit into the gas outlet line, not stopping the flow of gas entirely, just enough to cause problems when power was called for.

Kind of a unique problem, self inflicted years ago.

I would also recommend looking into the depth of the ditch and placement. Is the ditch in need of dredging soon where they could take out 2" to 4" of the ditch bottom area? Is the water flowing good right now?

Some states may be different but in Michigan you need to get a permit to put in a driveway culvert. You have to pay to put in a driveway. The county or State will mow the grass maybe twice during the summer. If there is a defect in a small area of the ditch they may repair it at no cost. If the ditch requires a major dredging for quite some distance, the county or state will put it in the budget and property owners will vote for a millage increase. If you have say 1/4 mile that you want cleaned out, you pay for it. If small brush or trees are growing unsightly, you can remove them. Once in a while during the winter months, a county or State workcrew may come by to cut and chop it up. You have to wait a long time. If you are persistent and call often you may get it done sooner.

If it's a garage with a nice cement floor or something you'd want to finish off later, i'd go with traditional framing. It'll allow for hanging drywall and be more finished looking inside.

I have lived through a bad experience with regards to buying a New Holland for the cheapest price.

The bottom line is:
If you can fix the tractor your self and do not care about warranty or service, then go for the cheapest price you can find.

Otherwise, you have to let the local New Holland Dealer rape you for their perceived Market Value, if you ever want service from them. That is the bottom line.

Corporate New Holland is of little help.
Their response is that the local dealership has the right to service their customer�s equipment prior to servicing out of area sales. I agree with that statement, if the dealership is honest and can legitimately schedule a date when you can expect to have your service issue addressed.

Now, I feel as though I could not trust the local dealership to work on my tractor. I am stuck with a TC24 that has had a history of problems that fortunately, I have been able to learn and fix myself. I hope the day never arrives when I have to consult with the local dealership for a repair.

I know there is a huge following here that thinks I'm wrong and deserve this for buying out of the local dealership based on the lowest price. That's fair enough, think what you may.

The next time you pay $35,000 for your next pick-up truck, imagine if you were forced to pay $47,000 just because the local dealer said so. I'm sure you would go elsewhere.
And then when you wanted or needed service, imagine if the answer is, "we didn't make any money off of your sale since you bought this truck else where. We will not service or warranty this truck until we address all of our other customers first."
Good luck with that.

I'm not a tractor guy, and after this experience, I don't want to be one. I own a machine that I work around the house with. Literally, when this one is worn out or broken, it will be thrown away. No pride or brand loyalty here.

I feel among part of circles here, there is little respect for others unless you fork over the cash first. I guess that's what makes the world go round.

The most secure way of getting the best bang for the buck, and knowing exactly where you stand is to purchase a 1, 2, or 3-year-old tractor with low hours. Someone else lost on the initial depreciation, and you know right off the bat, that you have no warranty support, and you didn't pay for it.

Best of luck to all those about to buy.

I'd make sure that all is well with the glow plugs. Make sure you give them time to warm up. Cycling the glow plugs several times before starting the tractor will usually yield better results.<br>

When starting (or attempting to start) the machine the fuel pump is delivering max fuel to get the cylinders. The unit returns flow to a normal setting when the governor kicks in as engine turns over. The black smoke is all of the unburned, excess fuel that was in the system.

The PTO lever arm that comes out of the transmission housing has an adjustment bolt. Set the length of the bolt so that the PTO control lever has no resistance until 50% of travel between the two lock positions.

You can probably adjust the lever a little tighter but you do not want to have the lever engaging less than 40% of the lever travel.

You know Ken.........I was thinking the same thing last night. The tractor is the cheap part of this deal. A 10 ft. rotary cutter in decent shape costs more than the tractor and more like double for even larger cheap cutters.

I am talking to a neighbor about cutting it for hay and if I can swing that, I will go over the field real well and clean up all of the rocks and debry.

I still think this may be a bit much for the 4410. I am talking about 60 acres or more in just this one field. I have about another 100 acres down the road at the other place that is FULL of Locust trees that I have to pull up before I can cut them. Bush hogging those trees covered in 2 and 3 inch thorns is a sure fire guarantee for a slew of flat tires.

The upside of the cutting so far is that the Bob White quail are out dinning on the bugs and things on the trails I have cut through the fields. They are even running around in the yard. I love to watch them.

NAPA has a metric kit that includes the gauge,tubing, fitting for under $ 20.00,I have bought them before I just don't have the part #.Gauge fits the same hole as the factory one,

Decided to go with the Honda because it was a little lower priced and because of the resale value If I was younger and really into hard riding I probably would have purchased the Bombi. I did talk to a dealer here in ID (not locally)that sells Honda, Bombi, Suzuki, Yamiha and Polaris. He did not recommend any one brand but said they sold more Hondas than the all the others put together.

I stopped in yesterday to buy a Stihl FS85 brush cutter..... unfortunately, they are also a JD dealer. Got to lookin at new tractors and talkin prices - ended up walking out of there having forgot about the brush cutter! I guess I'll "have" to go back now!!
I looked at a 5220 with a 541 front end loader and full hydraulics on the back end. Have thought about going from my 4700 to the 5220 - I'll have to think about that one.

I have had very good experience with Champion Trailer Parts Supply. As I recall, they used to have the kits for about $50. Redneck Trailer Parts is another good supplier.

That 7810 with the snowblower looks really cool. I couldn't get that past the boss.

I think most of the problems lie with the dealers and their ability/desire to catch manufacturing defects. I own a JD 4310. The dealer had to cut a slot for the mid-mount hydraulic cylinder lever. They did a terrible looking job. I think my 11 year old sister could have done a nicer looking job. Then the MMM deck was poorly adjusted. It was set for golf course green grass height. Once I had it where I wanted the grass height, it would raise up maybe 1/4 inch. My father-in-law and I spent about an hour working on it. We only broke one weld (pourous and really pathetic looking). I fixed that too. But my issues are mostly with the dealer.

So the JD guys do have complaints. But I am able to fix most things and so far the benefits of the tractor have far outweighed the problems.

I believe the big problem is that the female square end can cock and cause the male end to round off and eventually shear. The female square end of the driveshaft has two holes in it that can be tapped for set screws. That should keep it from sliding back and cocking. It looks like it was designed for this but for some reason they didn't bother.

I've also heard that an automotive steering shaft, which already has universal joints on each end, could be adapted fairly easily by a guy who can weld.
