When is the 170 changing? Or did I miss that?
Your opinion? Would you wait? Also I am nit planning on major heavy use for the skidsteer (heavy meaning wieght) would you just go with the 170 or its new equivalent? Or if you had the bucks would you upgrade to the 185? Is the 185 factory air a option in the cab or standard? I was debating over air or not depending on price? I have my dealer looking into prices for me now. Although I will wait to see if we go back to work or not, that discount is worth the wait.

Assuming I tap into the 4100 hydraulics, a possible 3pt splitter might be the WIKCO SPLS400197, which appears to be a fairly heavy duty unit. Any reports on this (or similar one)?

The shaft you are trying to free up is about a foot long. If you look at the rear of the tractor in a straight line back from the front of the shaft, you will see a freeze plug type of plug that closes the bore in the housing. I have never attempted to replace the pedal without removing the final drive, but it may be possible. I would drill a hole in the freeze plug and pop it out. Then using a punch, drive the shaft as far forward as you can. Clean up the exposed shaft with emery cloth or sandpaper. spray some penetrating oil on the shaft and then tap it back in the housing only as much as neccasary to get on the new pedal. The only danger here is that there is a woodruff key inside the housing that could get out of place if you drive the shaft back too far. If that happens, you will have no choice but to remove the final drive to get the key back into place. It is not that difficult to do if you have a way to handle the wheel assembly and the final drive assembly. If you clean the shaft well and use plenty of penetrating oil,it should free up nicely. just be sure to not peen over the end of the shaft while driving it forward and back. A brass punch works best. Be sure to replace the freeze plug when you finish. It keeps dirt and water out of the transmission and holds the oil in. Good Luck!

Your tractor would easily handle a 6' tiller, we've put a 5' on a BX2230. Just stay away from the "no-name" brands. Tillers for the most part DON'T take a lot of HP to run, unless you're trying to turn a shalebank into a flowerbed. <br>
Don't be afraid of buying the bigger tiller, try one first and you'll see what I mean.<br>
I'm sorry that you feel that way Archdean, but all of the BX series will lift 1200lbs at the 3pt and 600lbs 2' behind. Tillers do come in more than 1 grade of quality, that's why they make standard and heavy-duty implements. Not all applications are the same. NOTE: these customers are extremly satisfied with this unit.

Could be the starter fuse. Check the 30 amp solenoid fuse. Could be your problem. Look on page 65
of your owners manual for the location. Hope this helps.

drdrctk, I am not familiar with your model tractor. In most cases there is an access panel that can be removed from the clutch bellhousing which allows access to the clutch. There may be a good possibility that you can do this and use something like some thin plexiglass wedges or some use a screw driver (I don't recommend this) and very gentley tap the wedge in between the clutch and that pressure plate and or flywheel to free the clutch up on the input shaft. You may need to rotate the flywheel several times to access all parts of the clutch disk for separation. This sure beats the cost of splitting the tractor.

I agree with others here, genuine shop manuals are spendy, but typically worth having. I got the Technical manual and Parts manual for my JD790, and the total tab came to $230. One is not much good without the other. The Technical manual covers 670, 770, 790, 870, 970, and 1070 ($150), but the parts manual only covers the 790 ($80). I gulped when I found out the price, but didn't hesitate. After just a couple weeks, they've already been very helpful. Corrected some mis-information I had gotten from a mechanic, and answered several questions I had.

I have a Woods SB60 snowblower,I'm looking to change the 'stick and pin' adjustment for the chute deflector. Its a pain having to get off the tractor and change it and then do it again etc. I know some go hydralic, I don't have rear hydralics as of yet-a long ways off $$$. Has anyone experiment with cable. Looking for any Ideas Thanks<br>

It's been several years since I've had a Farmall painted, but the man who did the painting allways insisted on having the paint and the primer from CaseIH. For some reason he did'nt like auto store paint. Some of the IH impliments that were used on the old Farmall Letter series (C's, H's, M's etc.) had part of the componets painted blue. The last time I bought paint from CaseIH the blue was no longer available, but I was told Big A, or NAPA had the correct formula. Frank.

I like brokenarrows idea, where there is a will there is a way even if it is a sunday or nighttime assignment. I ran water to my garage but it is not heated. Where I live, many people use frost free hydrants, 36 inch is all we need. I don't know if they have them past 5 feet depth, but then it certainly wouldn't be connected to the garage if that is what you need for code. Then you could plumb the garage and run a garden hose jumper to a faucet on the outside of the garage to fire up the inside. Warm weather only, but it beats waiting for the next house and is cheap. You could use it in winter just not leave it hooked up long.

They are all different. Most are coming with some fluids depending on the degree of factory assembly and it's location. Years ago they would come totally dry do to the amount of assembly. Today many of the tractors are at least partially assmebled and run and tested at the factory.

Hettric, Used to have a 755, and changed most of the grease fittings on it so that I could grease it easier. Obviously it is cheaper for the factory to install short straight nipples instead of the 90 or 45 angled fittings. I just had an Alemite assortment and changed them. I believe they were a standard 1/28 taper thread and worked fine for me.

I think the key words here are "Sane Person"

I have been to several low budget weddings. And to tell the truth, they are generally (there is 'one' wedding that was pathetic) far more enjoyable than the big budget ones. I''m just more 'comfortable' at these informal ones.

They generally get everyone involved (freinds, family, church, etc.) in helping out, which right off the bat takes a lot of pressure of whatever poor person is usually responsible for everything.

One of the most memorable I ever went to, was a small wedding (maybe 70 people) in a park under a huge oak tree. They brought one of those trellis archways like you buy at home depot for a few bucks, and some stakes driven into the ground with some frilly fabric draped between them as a barrior. Their were no chairs so everyone stood. The pastor gave a reasonably short but great sermon/wedding ceremony. Music at the event was a guy from their church on guitar and a girl standing next to him singing.

Reception followed a few miles away at someones home, and it was a pot luck affair. Persoanlly I love pot lucks. Food was much better than those tiny boiled chicken things you usually get at fancy weddings.

There was some time between the wedding to allow everyone to change into casual clothes if desired (I desired).

The cake was home made (but still very nice). Music at the reception was the same couple who performed at the wedding. They were paid with donations at the reception desk (a dressed up coffee can next to the guest register).

I think their only expenses were the tux rentals, the gown (modest but nice), the trellis, the pastor, some frilly stuff, flowers, and materials to make dresses for the bridesmaids (sewing was doen by a volunteer).

Oh, they also rented a horse and carriage to take them from the park to the reception (that was a really nice touch)

I bet this wedding was only about a thousand dollars, and everyone had a great time. It was very nice.

The bride and grooms parents came together and put up $35k to be used as a down payment onn a house, and the couple saved up theiir own money in advance for a modest honeymoon.

It has been about nine years now, and they have two kids, a nice house (their 'only' debt) in a great neighborhood, and are very happilly married.

Unless you are rich, I'm of the mind that spending all that money on a wedding which only lasts a few hours is plain foolish, especially when the money can be used towards the couples future.

The 46" snowthrower works like a demon, but it is noisy. Mine sounds like the bearings are square instead of round, did so when it was new 12 years ago, does so today.

Like oneace said,let the rpms determine your speed. I run mine at 2500. I have had the snow rolling right over the top of the blower,24+". Without any problem. "that ain't no lawnmower" The little diesel is impressive!

Just to follow up in case someone else is interested. I finally decided the only way to be sure about the correct thread was to buy one of the banjo bolts from JD and measure it. I could have just taken one out of my tractor, but then I'd be into the job and didn't want to dump the trans/hydr fluid and all until I had the parts to plumb up the new TNT installation.

It turns out, as I was guessing, that the banjo bolts are the same thread as an SAE8, 3/4" x 16 TPI. An appropriate replacement is an SAE8 straight thread O-ring fitting. I verified this with a high quality thread gauge and by threading an SAE8 threaded cap onto it. I thought there was some chance that this could be a BSPP thread, but the thread gauge confirmed that it is an Amarican thread, the BSPP threads have a slightly different tooth angle that is distinctly visible with a thread gauge.

The other odd thing in the hydraulic plumbing in the 790 is the steel tubing pressure lines from the pump to the SCV valve and from the SCV to the FEL couplings. The tubing measures .485" OD. Normally hydraulic tubing is measured in even OD sizes, 1/4" 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", or 1/2". This makes it 0.015" shy of 1/2" even with a coat. It is also not quite a metric size, about 0.012" smaller than 12mm. Seems odd, can't understand what this size is? It turns out that the return to tank line that I want to tee into will be pretty awkward to replace with other fittings. I was kind of planning to just cut this line open and put a compression tee in the middle of it for the new tank return line, but I don't think a 1/2" compression fitting will squeeze down enough to bite into tubing this small.

Other options:
1) Make some custom brazed TEEs with the .485" braze slip fittings on the ends and maybe a standard SAE8 port in the middle?
2) Replace the line I need to tee into with a new 1/2" line with SAE8 all around. This is fine in theory, but both ends of this line are in a pretty awkward locations for spinning on SAE8 ells. One virtue of the banjo fitting is that it takes almost no clearance to spin the banjo bolt in with the banjo tubing oriented any direction needed. All you need is enough clearance for a box wrench. With an ell fitting you have to have about 1" clearance around the port for a full 360 degrees to thread the ell into the port.
3) I suppose I might be able to cut the existing line open, put 37 degree flares on the .485" tubing ends, and use a JIC tee for 1/2" tubing?

Something to comtemplate some more.
