In poor road conditions, the best safety factor usually costs nothing regardless of your tires and other bells and whistles - REDUCE SPEED. I can't begin to count the number of times I have seen vehicles loose control in snow etc just because the driver was going too fast.

A popular misconception with hydraulic systems, usually caused by somewhat misleading advertising, is that the flow rates are going to be much higher than they are in the real world.

The first big trick is to state 'total' hydraulic output, without explain the system in any great detail.

On average, the power steering system gets the first 40% of the rated output. Notice I used the words "first" and "rated" in that sentence. If the system has a "rated" output of 12GPM the power steering will get 40% or about 5GPM, however, the power steering system is normally fed by a "priority flow divider valve" which means in reality the power steering system will take the first 5GPM regadless of how much the system is making. The remote SCV only gets what is leftover.

System losses, such as the fluid being routed through a FEL or the 3pth will further reduce flow rates, as will the fact that some published ratings are actually "bench rates", that means they rated the pump on a test bench, not in a tractor.

Most spec. sheets (if you read them carefully) do actually break it down and state the maximum for the remote outlets.

Here in eastern Iowa most water lines are 5 1/2 - 6 ft. deep, and you seldom hear of a feeze up. I think they call it "Iowa one call" around here, long as you call them a couple days ahead they'll come out and locate any nearby utilitys. Just something I finally learned after digging the yard up again to add something new. Plastic underground electrical conduit is real cheap, so the last couple times we've dug a water line or electic service across the yard just lay an empty 2-3 in. conduit in the trench along with whatever you're installing, someday it'll come in handy. The ROPS stay up and is outside the cab for the folding models. I believe Curtis makes a model for fixed ROPS that is inside the cab.

1*Why not use your BX? That's what it's designed for. Get a tiller for the back and use the FEL.
2*Check out the Simplicity Legacy.
3*I have to agree with AV8R. Isn't the BX perfect for that type of work ?
If it were me, I would use that money for BX attachments (tiller, mower, blades, Etc.), really no need for a garden tractor.
4*My point is you may want to shop around in newspapers, estate auctions or some dealers and pick up some nice used stuff.
5* I guess one reason to get the GT could be that you use the BH on the BX so much that you don't want to take it off and on.
6*But that said if I knew I was going to have new GT anyway and not use the BX for mowing, I would skip the BX and get a bigger tractor like a B7800 or a Grand L.

1*I already have a tiller on the back and a blade on the front of my Bolens Which saves me from having to keep switching implements on the BX23 every time I want to use a blade or tiller.
Most of what I would do with a tiller and blade would be quick small jobs.
I sorta hate to switch implements on the BX23 for 15 to 30 minute jobs.
Also the Bolens is good for getting into small tight areas that don't have enough room to maneuver the BX23.
The Bolens is gear drive and Manual lift attachments. Just thought it would be nice to upgrade to hydrostatic drive and hydraulic lifts.
2*I did that and I agree they are nice, but I don't need that much Garden Tractor to supplement the BX23.
3*Correct If the jobs are large enough.
4*Used is probably the way I will have to go. If the Money is to great I will just stick with the BOLENS.
Since I have the Bolens tiller and front blade it would be great to find a good used GT with Hydro Trans
And hydraulic lift that will take the attachments I have already. I don't need a mower as The BX23 has the 60'' mmm and I have a wards MTD with a 46' mower.
5* That's about right.
6*In my case the Bx 23 is big enough to do what I need it for and I do most of the mowing with it.

Yep, had similar problem... found that the height control lever for the mowing deck had not sprung back to its neutral position and was still partially in the raise quadrant and was overiding the loader controls just as you describe. So when it happens again simply move the deck lever to its neutral position and alls OK. One day I'll get around to adjusting the spring on the deck lever.

As one of the few females here, here is my reply--

To the original question: This is very important to her. The answer is compromise. Agree to go 1 week to vist (and make some polite reason you can't leave town more than a week) BUT at the same time you make those reservations, you're also booking a 2nd trip, your choice where. Go to one of those places in the USA you'd like to see. You do her (disorganized family) thing 1 week, she goes with you 1 week somewhere fun, everyone is happy.

brokenarrow: might as well pull out the divorce papers now if this is how you see your wife and how you treat her. No she shouldn't nag.. but then again when people nag it's usually because asking politely or patiently waiting have already failed. You intentionally do little things to piss her off, you joke about getting rid of her, and you wonder why your homelife isn't all roses and sunshine. Relationships require BOTH people's participation. Learn that now and your life will be so much easier.

With out driving it myself its hard to pin point but I have a question. Does it do it on dry roads at all? If the ABS kicks in on DRY roads at low speeds (usually 5 mph and lower)its most likely a front sensor.This is done by watching the scanner for the one that drops out 3 or more mph than the other ones. Depending on build date some come with the whole hub. If its doing it only on snow covered roads and you feel its NOT NORMAL ABS operation (remember they are very sensitive) then I would check the rear rotors for rust and corrosion that could limit surface contact between pad and rotor cause front to do most of the work and skid. (rusty/corroded rotors very common on GM)

Have the same problem. When she see's me on here she calls me Johnny Joe Tractor. Normally I think nothing of it until she makes the 3rd or 4th pass and says hey Johnny Joe Tractor. This is when I get EVIL thoughts involving the back hoe and several bags of lime. Then she asks me what im smiling about. At this time I usually throw some money at her and this makes her go away for a few hours.

If I had just wanted 1,2,or 3 remotes, I would have skipped the 3rd remote altogether and gone with the rops mounted 1-3 spool valve. It would have been easier. Unfortunatly, I wanted the factory 3rd to go forward and operate a grapple or 4 in 1, and I wanted the control as close as possible to the loader control. The back 3 will be for top and tilt, and angle for scraper blade, or scarifiers on box blade.

If read your post correctly, $9K invested in a mutual fund will be worth $304K in 18 years.

Sir, please tell me the name of that fund. Assuming it was a legitimate fund, I would love to risk 9K with the chance to make $304K in 18 years. Perhaps there was typo, and you meant to write $30K in 18 years?

You may recall that $9K earning 7% per year will be worth $18K in ten years ("rule of 7"). I haven't bothered to figure out what your hypothetical fund would have to return to go from $9K to $304K, but it must be a pretty hefty percentage. Would love to know about a fund that has that kind of performance.

I'm another happy bx23 owner. It's wonderful! I'm on 15 acres. It's done everything for me from mowing acres of grass to putting in lots of fencing to redoing the gravel drive. Come spring I'll be using it to dig underground water lines for horse waterers and maybe some electric in the horse shed. It's small but it sure does alot.

Had mine in the snow for the first time today.
Cleared about 250 feet of driveway in about 20 minutes with the fel.
Went very good for first time plowing snow.
Had fun.
Now to see How I do with it in a real snow. This was our first one this winter and was only about 2" but it gave me an excuse to go play in the snow.LOL
Oh well at least it was good for a little seat time.

The engine, as you probably know, being turboed is loud to begin with. The noise is a combination of hydraulic pump/motors "growling" or "groaning", typical gear teeth chattering at the flywheel pumps--just general loudness from the system. Like the salesman said to me: hey you're sitting on top of and in and around the engine and the hydraulic components." Yep, but this is TOO noisey. The nosies are especially loud (groaning gear chatter) when in high gear. Then you really hear the mechanicals lugging. It is so loud that a cement truck driver on a job with cement mixing with engine running could hear my machine in high gear 300 feet away as I drove way from him. He was so concerned he jumped out of his truck to tell me something had to be wrong with the machine as he could ehar it---and he remarked he has has been around a lot of "bobcats" and had never heard anything that loud.

I let my premium membership expire and am getting with Dennis to get it alive again, so I can't read your entire message. I've got some of his photos, they are a little dark, so you can't see too much. I've asked for your email address so I can attach some photos and pricing. I found out the vette has 13,500 miles on it. I think it is 405HP with a 3.4:1 gear. The Viper is 450HP with 3.08:1 gear.

That tractor series is the same as 10 year old Cub-Cadets like mine, only it is painted "Red". People never took the Cadet as a serious tractor. I've been trying to tell people for years that it is great, weighs and lifts more. The only things to look for are that the motor to frame mounting bolts vibrate loose and a solenoid should be added to the starting circuit for more positive starts due to all of the electrical safety interlocks. I leave the cab on year 'round. I just take the doors and rear curtain off. Great when it rains. And, yes, the windshield is heavy.
