I use the flush kind were ya give it a clean wipe before connecting. I had one on there that kept getting clogged. Man was that annoying! I finally got tired of hammering a nut driver to free it up so I spent the $50 & replaced it. It hasnt glogged since. Its funny how the other line never clogged. They are nice when they work though.

I know its been a long time since you posted your question about "red-tips", but I just ran across it. I live in south Alabama and have bushes called "red tops". The bushes is the left background of your pic number 3 look a little like my red tops. Are they the same thing? Anyway, my red tops are almost indestructibe, can be pruned anytime and in any manner and just keep growing back. Right now they are about twelve feet tall and serve us well as a screen between us and our neighbor.

I would totally agree with anyone choosing to go to a bigger tractor if they have a small compact. The 7800 is a very nice unit but I would opt for the 2910 due to better lighting, position control, and other small features. The 7800 and up can run the 72" deck which is wonderful. I personally have a JD 4410 and was planning on buying a 4110 or 4115 until I tested a 4410 to see if I liked a 72" deck...I ended up buying it instead. The turfs do great on the lawn and even though the tractor weighs 2900 pounds. Bigger is definately better in this case...but then I only have a few things to mow around...mostly four acres of back and forth. It is a great ride!

Thanks for adding that. I appreciate hearing the experiences of others. I have no choice but to try to learn from the experiences of others. Once I get something, I'm going to be stuck with it.

Did your grading consist mainly of crowning a road, or something else? Did you do much digging a drainage ditch along the road edge with a tilted blade?

Have you read the thread of the guy who used two side link cylinders because he wasn't happy with a 5" cylinder? I don't recall but it might have been at another tractor forum I hang out at some. They had a single collected posting with links to a dozen or so long threads, all on the subject of TNT. Tons of information.

I thought that it was a big loader too. I don't know whether to keep the loader or try to down size to a lighter one. Guess I'll take my time and decide.

I would like to pickup a service manual for a 855 if anybody has one. What kind of oil goes in the rear differential? Anybody got a copy of a manual that could scan the pages about changing the oil in the trans/rearend for me or have a manual to sell?

Any John Deere dealer can order the manuals you want. You could also check Ebay if you aren't in a hurry. Manuals of this type are frequently sold there. Congratulations on your purchase! These tractors are real workhorses with 70 horsepower.

DKvince sorry I didn't get back to you but my wife has had major surgery and you know first things first. Anyway the spline sleeve is available thru a hardware outfit Aubucron or something like that in New York. I give up on the front mount and am going over to McGarvey Equipment and get a PTO shaft and run the blower on the back for now. Hey did you know Keys went out of busines? Terry Kahle got a bunch of machines, Kubota, but no B7800's. I may still trade for a DK35. Stop in if you get a chance.

What type hydrolic oil and filter did you use? The only only filter and oil I would use is from a Cub Cadet dealer. The hydrolic oil I use is Hy-Tran Ultra.
Oil is around $10 a gal. I change filter and fill reservior every year. I don't drain resesvior.

I think you are having foaming problem causing oil to run out the vent.

I have a IH Cub Cadet 149 that I pull a moldboard plow. I never the problem your having. I go to several plow days every year and not afraid to put the hammer down.

In this case, there is no reason to believe the disk is a copy.

If it is, the guy must have some very sophisticated gear. The off side of the disk is white and has an imprinted Deere logo.

Thanks for the info. I too have heard they use about 7 to 9 chords of wood per year depending on the out door temperature at the time. I found out it would not be to economical just to heat the garage alone with one, you would have to also heat your home with it to recover the cost of one of these units, since the price range I was quoted by about six different companies was in the ball park of about 7 to 8 grand now that is for heating both the house and the garage. That is a whole lot of dollars when I could hang 2 ceiling mounted NG heaters and use a wood burning furnace (when I�m out there) for about 1600.00 for all three pieces. The pay back cost is in about three years. I do thank you for the input on the subject.

anybody use or know how good herd spreaders are was told from a dealer today that they were one of the most accurate spreaders on the market .looking at the herd model m96, also looking at eurospan spreaders do not know much about them, also euorspan is painted metal , can not find to much of there specs on line as far as seed spreading. herd will spread seed as far little as 2 lbs per acre, must be great for clover, and it is galvanised metal, do not know which one is better anbody have these or know about them thanks kully

So far, I've only been able to look at the machine through the fence (saw the tractor on Sunday, and talked to the dealer by phone on Tuesday).

Tractor has turf tires (which I want). FEL is 410 model, so I assume a 48 inch bucket.

Unsure about transmission; will get back to you. Regret the delay; this is kind of a long-distance romance. Appreciate your patience.

Moose, same thing with my JD 110, no clearance behind the tires at all. I wouldn't even attempt chains on this one. I'm sure the same reason the L48 has such tires as Murf explained.

I think it was about 5 grand give or take a few hundred. Just stick the butt of the branch in and walk away for the next, it would haul em in and spit em out as fast as you could drag em. What was real nice is the speed can be controlled and with the 8" opening and the size and taper of the chute, you didn't have to trim much, it would either fold or break the other branches as it pulled the limb in.

Of course you recognize that your situation is atypical of the majority of folks buying fasteners for home and farm projects. I dare say the vast bulk of the low grade hardware is moved through Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, and a few others.

With your resource available, I wouldn't have asked the question in the first place. I mourn the passing of the days when products were marketed by more objective criteria. My dad (who's 87 now) tells me he remembers when car ads told things like how many square inches of braking surface per pound they had. Can't you just see the gorgeous model coming on camera in a TV car commercial to tell you the grade of steel used or something? Today its all about how a product makes you feel.
