I have the opportunity to purchase a D-17 with overhauled gas engine. Needs tie rods and brake work. Would need a 3 point conversion kit. Where would I buy a 3pt conversion kit? Does anyone make a quick-attach FEL? Would I have to also add another engine driven hydraulic pump to get decent pressure? There are no remote hydraulics.<br>

I have the Speeco Auger from TSC on my 7800. I think the 7800 is slightly bigger than the 4110, but it should fit fine. It is adjustable at the boom to handle different lift ranges. I have a 42" auger and don't have any trouble raising the auger high enough off the ground.

I drilled over 150 holes this summer with it, and it worked great.

I would assume you will try the machine before plunking down some green for the orange. Just pop the boom into float and roll the bucket out. if it lifts the boom up, there isn't a problem. If it pulses or goes very slowly, it is a problem. that is the only complaint I had for a great, powerful machine. It has about 500 hours now and only had PTO fail. ???? Quick fix but cost a coulple hundred.

Thanks for the reply. I feel better now. I just thought that their might be something wrong. Occassionally I have driven past a construction site and saw a tractor parked for the night with all four wheels off the ground. Other times, I have driven every dat past a tractor with a loader bucket up in the air with an advertising sign on it and it never seemed to be dropping. Thanks again.

Have been looking at the Valby 140 and Patu DC65 chippers, both with hydraulic feed. Have small Christmas tree farm, thus will be chipping a bunch of these as well as endless buckthorn and other brush that has gotten too big to bush hog. Will power it with PTO on 30 hp diesel (New Holland). Anybody with experiences to share on either of these?

Kyvette, I think I see what you were saying, but I think you got the two confused. An OC1 is SONET, T1's are muxed onto SONET, but they are used for the Telcos backbone, so they can run many channels over a single strand of fiber easily, the overhead you are referring to is the clocking and VTs needed for DS1's to run over SONET. The majority of the overhead is from muxing the DS3 onto the OC1. In most cases though the end receiver, the ISP or customer runs the Mux off a DS3, not the SONET, only the Telcos do anything with the SONET, except in the rare cases of a major customer such as AOL, or maybe Motorola. In those cases they would purchase fiber from a carrier, called Dark Fiber and implement their own equipment. <br>

Note: I edited the information after doing some further researh into SONET, I found there are other uses other than for the main backbone.

$The quickest and easiet way is to disk it, then drag it to fill in any low spots or furrows. If you drag it in overlapping circles you'd be amazed how much more level it will turn out versus running back and forth. To make a drag all we ever used was a 6' square of welded 4" or 6" angle. Attach a 15' chain to ends and you're good to go. If you run in circles you will have to adjust the center of the chain (unequal lengths from the ends of the drag to the center) to get the drag to follow correctly. If not done correctly it's like pulling a water skier with a boat around in circles--the drag will try to pass you! If the starter sounds like it really laboring it could be the starter--mine went out after 20 hours.

If you are getting no engine smoke when it cranks it could be the fuel cap vent is plugged--open the cap and listen for a sucking sound--suction not good (transfer pump can't overcome vacuum).Try to start. Clean or replace the cap.

On my TC33D there is a fuse block on the right hand side "firewall" with a flimsy rubber cover--it constantly gets moisture and dirt in there and the fuses corrode up (probably due to the battery fumes blowing by it from engine fan). Take the fuse out that controls the fuel circuit, clean the contacts and replace the fuse.

Thru the years I've seen plenty of ideas on skid plates. Keep it detachable! To make it easy to clean what might land on top and become a problem. Make sure that it won't just direct more debris to be able to hit vital parts. I've seen logs jambed on top of the backhoe subframe between the tractors actually causing the tractor to get stuck.

I second taheide's comments on the rear seals.

Almost everyone I have ever seen weeps a little around the pinion, enough to dampen it that's all.

If you can find it loccally try adding some Lucas Gear Oil Supplement to the diff. next time you top it up, the stuff is VERY gooey but works miracles.

I was using my 790 this weekend, hit a bump and the machine shut down completely. Upon investigation, my positive terminal wire was about corroded off. I put it back on .. I had juice to turn the machine over, but it wouldn't start. I'm hoping a new terminal hookup on the battery will do the trick. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I be checking other areas as well?

Yes you are correct about the weight, did not consider that when I posted mainly because when I think of diesel I think of my Stroke. Now that I think about it, my tractor has Castrol in it, since it meets the recomendations needed, and in my gassers Castrol has always performed remarkably well. The main point I was making is the use of synthetics in a tractor is a waste of money since there are several brands of Dino that perform just as well in the tractor engine and the way they are used. As far as why Rotella T is so well known is mainly the trucking industry, when you go into a truck stop, you will almost always find they sell Rotella exclusively. When I drove a big rig thats all the company used in their trucks and the majority of the drivers I talked to who owned their own rigs used Rotella. I havent done a blackstone report on my tractor yet, but will do one on the next oil change next year. With the castrol 5W30 I used in it, the last cold start on Saturday was easy, so at least I know its working. Temps were in the single digits.

About a week or so ago I stated that my Farming Cousin with the F350 6.0 wasn't having any problems. I hadn't talked to him in a while. Well, I guess the story is beginning to change for him. Now he is getting some sort of miss and is loosing power on hills, just ripped out a front end and is getting some intermittent noices up front that service can't locate. He definitely doesn't pamper it by any means.
