I know the difference of the ease of connecting and disconnecting the two different mowers and I do have to agree that the rear is easier to connect. I haven't found that there is any advantage to the cut on the rear but have seen in wet conditions an advantage of a better cut with less wheel marks from the mid mowers. I'm lazy by nature or just always short of time and enjoy the closeness that a mid mower can give you when trimming on the side of the deck vs trying to watch the mowers edge behind you. I'd just as soon not need a trim mower or a trimmer and the mid mower for the most part gives me that ability to only need the trimmer from time to time and no extra mower to go where the tractor won't go or get close enough on the sides. Rear mount will allow you to get under trees better by backing as mentioned above but look at your conditions as some times there are spots on lawns you might not get into at all with a longer machine.

As long as we are talking about nasty, and I only bring it up because it looks like we are, is anyone else familiar with "beagle butt". It isn't a flatulation that disperses with time, it's a very foul odor that is trapped in some gland at the business end of the dog. The only way it is taken care of is by the dog dragging said business end along a rough surface. Carpeting is the surface of choice, left un-supervised.

Now that's nasty.

In our area the electrical authority have a VERY dim view (no pun intended) of improperly wired generators.

A neighbour up the road from me discovered this the hard way last winter, during a storm a car took out a pole and brought down lines which caused an outage affecting most of this half of the township.

He thought nothing of it and sparked up the generator. A few minutes later a line crew came down the road checking the lines, when they got to his place a guy went up in the boom and used a special cutter to drop the leads coming from the pole to his house, then just drove away.

When he called the office they told him the line crew had discovered that his house was improperly wired and he was back-feeding the grid. They told him that he needed to hire an electrician and fix the problem, then call and they would have to do an inspection before they could re-connect him to the grid.

Unfortunately for him, the re-inspection required his entire house to meet TODAYS standards.

His entire house had been wired without grounded receptacles and the panel was only 60 amp, so it had to be upgraded to 100 amp minimum.

He was grumbling to me that it cost him thousands, I told him he was lucky, it could have cost someone their LIFE.

I keep an old 18 shot Marlin 22 semiautomatic by the backdoor to eliminate groundhogs from digging in the yard. I bought some cheap hollow point bullets from Wal-Mart to use. I slide open the sliding glass door and put the barrel out the door and shoot. Even inside the house the noise isn't really that loud as compared to shooting my little 22 Beretta pistol outside. I should use hearing protection, but for the occaissional shot I pass. Just be careful if the shell kicks out on the Mrs. curio cabinet as she will become very upset and be a lot worse than the varmit. I guess you know how I know this.

Love my Cadet although it is a different model series. As Hardwood has said, you need to be happy with your dealer. Drive both tractors and get a feel for how it suites you. A close dealer location is important. You mentioned health reasons. The JD pedals are located differently than most other brands. This may be the important factor!

I like R1's just fine in snow, but the tractor weight, footprint, lug height, inflation, snow thickness, snow type, temperature, etc. all have a hand in how well it works. There's probably a sweet spot of all those factors that determine what tire is best in any given condition. I doubt the best snow tire would ever be an R4 though.

I agree that the front axle is usually where the brakes go, but if you think about it the rear would be better. <br>

When the brake activates, the whole axle will twist forward unloading the spring equalizer and lifting the axle which begins the bounce I explained on a different thread. If the brake was on the rear axle, the twist would unload the front axle which will load the rear axle holding it down during braking.

Go to your local Orange store, or possibly even the guys at tractorsmart.com could tell you.

The dealer parts dept. for sure will be able to tell from the parts diagram what bolt size is needed.

I know what you mean Art! I have rotor cup problems in both arms but primarily in the right. If I am careful I can do most anything but when I abuse it I am in pain for a time. Pulling on a rope too much really strains it, that is why I am waiting for the boy to stop here before trying it.

If you recall, last winter I posted a question about my brother in law's snow blower. I made the mistake of yanking on that rope too much while working on it, ouch.

I changed the oil in my Arctic Cat 500 ATV yesterday. That fill plug is in such a terrible spot and made of plastic. I have had it out twice and it is already destroyed due to it being so tight in the casting. I can't believe it is supposed to be that way, calling the dealer today.

It's all about what you will be doing with the machine. If you are simply pulling or pushing an implement, engine HP is less of a concern while size and weight is a bigger issue. Most tractors will run out of traction long before they run out of power. If you are running a power hungry PTO driven attachement such as a tiller or brush hog or a lot of hydraulics then HP becomes a more important factor. One isn't better than the other, it's all about what you need.

As long as the ag tires have a suitable load rating, there would be no reason that I know of that they could not be used with a loader. The important thing with any tire replacement on a 4WD is to stay with the same diameter as the originals. The gear ratio in the drivetrain is set up for a certain combination of front and rear tire sizes and this must be maintained with the replacement tires.
