i have a bx1500 54" mid mount mower. buying a new b7800 with fel and auger. also have landscape rake and box blade. have used 60" mid mount mower on bx2200 that i'm trading in. what's the down side to rear finish mower vs mid mount mower. mowing open sloping yard with dips and hugh rocks tipping above ground (2" to 3"s). remember i have a bx1500 with mid mount mower to use also.

IMHO, it's a mix of convenience and need. I dumped my MM for a RFM two years ago, and am happy with the move. I find the RFM a lot more convenient to take on and off the tractor, because I don't like having the mower on the tractor for FEL work. I changed my mowing patterns to allow for the turning and handling and don't notice any difference.
You will find a lot of users don't like the turning limitations with the RFM. It is a matter of preference for the most part. My RFM cuts better than the MMM did. ....

By the way, you are going to like the 7800. We have really enjoyed what it has done for us. We used it all summer with a PHD, and it did a great job. I did add rear remotes with top-n-tilt. Found the hydraulic tilt was really usefull to keep the PHD plumb on un-even ground. I'm not sure we would have finished the fence yet without it. Also added a position indicator for the 3-pt since you don't have position control on the 7800. Really handy for the box blade.

The Kubota MMM really goes on and off pretty easy as long as you jack up the front end some how and do it on a concrete floor. I went with the MMM for a couple of reasons.
--A rear mower takes up too much real estate in my garage.
--MMM generally are easier to drive around objects, a Kubota MMM handles just about the same as a Garden tractor IMHO. So under almost all circumstances you won't need to trim around anything. I cut all the tree limbs so I can drive the tractor with ROPS up under them.
--Should give a great cut only passing over the grass with one set of wheels rather than two.
--Side discharge allows you to blow and chop leaves ( you can get either of course on RM).
-- I have heard from some that on slopes the MMM may be a bit more stable
If you are going to be changing front loader to MMM every week I would still go with the RM though.

I use a Woods RD6000 on my 7610 and really like it. As stated before, it's easy to get on and off. You can also back the mower under trees where the MMM won't go. I went with a rear discharge so that the clippings spread evenly and mulch back in. I've also used a MMM on my brother's tractor and thought it was ok, but prefer the RFM. ....

I know the difference of the ease of connecting and disconnecting the two different mowers and I do have to agree that the rear is easier to connect. I haven't found that there is any advantage to the cut on the rear but have seen in wet conditions an advantage of a better cut with less wheel marks from the mid mowers. I'm lazy by nature or just always short of time and enjoy the closeness that a mid mower can give you when trimming on the side of the deck vs trying to watch the mowers edge behind you. I'd just as soon not need a trim mower or a trimmer and the mid mower for the most part gives me that ability to only need the trimmer from time to time and no extra mower to go where the tractor won't go or get close enough on the sides. Rear mount will allow you to get under trees better by backing as mentioned above but look at your conditions as some times there are spots on lawns you might not get into at all with a longer machine. ....

I am a fan of the MMM. I have the 60" MMM on my 7800 and love it. If I'm using the loader for small things and not really working it, I just let the mower stay in it's normal up position. If I need to use the 3pth, I will pin the deck up but it is so easy to remove, that here lately I just take it off. I don't have a concrete pad to take it off yet so I find a flat spot in the yard. Put the deck down and unhook everything, use the FEL to raise it in the air and drag the deck out. Takes about 5 minutes to remove it and about 10 minutes to put it back on. ....

thanks for everyones input. after i posted my request for info i found the forum for mowers and read those inputs also. guess i will go with rfm on this tractor since i also have bx1500 tractor with mid mount mower to do closer cuts.
i have removed and reinstalled mmm on bx2200 a couple of times and know i don't like laying on flat concrete floor to do it for lubricating/servicing deck and removing and installing blades and using fel. have not removed deck most of the time when doing fel work but should have some of the times. thanks again for everyones input.

Its even easier on a concrete floor and even without the loader with 10 ton pump jack under the front axle.
Another thing to note is that the BX series are real low to the ground compared to a B series. To use the loader for mulch or other quick projects pinning the loader up is a snap and gives vastly more clearance than a BX.
