The hydro for the HST seems to be working, but it did stop for a minute and then came back after fluid added.

When it happend I stopped immediately (lost drive) I don't think I ran it dry or of I did it was not for very long - once I realized what was happening.

Here's my 1 1/2 cents...can't afford 2 cents. I was a buyer for a large sporting goods store. When Walmart's started moving in to our markets, they changed everything for us, we had to go upscale in many of our departments, and had to decrease the # of categories we carried, since Walmart effectively "killed" the category. They would sell a $200 retail item that we made 10% on, for $1 less than our store, with our ad prominently displayed. Sure, we probably pay less for many of the goods we buy since the Walmarts, Depots, etc. have come in to prominence, but, when is the last time you got the same level of service, quality, knowledge, etc. at Wally-world as you used to in our small businesses? When everything comes down to price, service and quality will suffer. I started this thread to discuss what may happen when K-mart and Sears begin to follow this trend. I hope they can differentiate themselves enough to offer us a choice, and possibly a higher quality and higher service level than what we have come to expect at Walmart, etc. I wonder if K-mart chairman Edward Lampert reads Tractor Point?

A little off point perhaps, but don't overlook the Tundra. With a high tech, 32 valve engine and 245 HP and I get 19 mpg around town, 22-23 mpg on the road and 13 towing the 5th wheel or the tractor.

Stu: Try some of the discount farm supply stores. In my area we have Fleet-Farm and Tractor Supply (TSC) who handle things like King Kutter. They (KK) make a line of rear attachments called their XB line made specially for the sub-Compact tractors. Inexpensive and decently built. It is not OEM or Woods, but it works. I have one of their XB box-blades.

BigBru: The old poles that were boiled in creosote before creosote was restriced by the Gvt. seem to never rot off. I've got an old corrgated tin shed on the farm that must have been built in the late 50's with genuine creosote poles that still don't show a sign of rot. I really don't know for sure what the preservative was that was used after that, but I put up a pole shed in 1969 using the "New" square poles with the then legal preservative, and within 20 yrs most every pole you could kick the toe of your boot thru at ground level. We were asked to build some playground equipment a few years ago at the shop, but after checking codes found that the "Green" poles and lumber were not legal to use because of arsenic in the preservative. There were two versions of the 7100 built. An early one that started the following of the Kubotas that also came in the gear drive version and then the later model that came in a hydro only tractor. I perfer the later model but at the price of 3000 and the equipment youare listing I'd say either would be a good buy if the equipemnt looks good.

suggestion...

Tape that fuse into its holder with electrical tape. Mine came loose, but was still in the holder causing my tractor not to shut off when I turned the key. Fortunately it was only an annoyance for me, but it could have been a major safety issue (i.e. the operator presence switch was not working either).

The owners manual says you need +/- 1100 pounds to safely use the FEL with heavy materials. Believe it. <br>

If you cruise through some of my other photo's you will find a couple of inexpensive options for adding rear ballast: cinder blocks in #11 and barbell weights in #12 and #13.<br>

A ballast box filled with sand or concrete is another affordable option. <br>

However you get there, you will need to counter balance the weight of the FEL assembly AND the weight of the load in the bucket on this particular model.<br>

Thanks for splitting up the posts. I do plan on joining but need to get around to it. Getting ready for winter around here. Thanks for the part #s. Those will be real handy. How do you like your 4300 and what is it used for? I have a 200 yr. old barn where the frost heaves had pushed out the granite. I dug around the granite with the backhoe, jacked the barn, replaced the sills, pulled the granite back in place, and put in drainage. This summer I saved $15K +. The tractor is paying for itself. I feel good about this purchase.

He's asking $13,900, which would be reasonable with a JD loader. It does have some hours, 1800, which is definitely "used" for a CUT, but he says it's in "like new" condition. The idea did cross my mind to offer to take it w/o the FEL and buy my own 430. Don't know if he'd want to remove the Woods -- I'll know on Wed.

"Manuvering in tight spots" do yourself a favor and at least demo a Hydrastatic transmission for a whole day, there is nothing better for what you said you want to do. I have had gear all my life in farm/compact tractors and will never be without my hydro unless pulling very heavy loads long distances on hills.

I've never seen a Kioti but the Bransons looked to be fairly well built. I didn't take them seriously because they didn't offer an HST when I was shopping and the dealer had just taken them on so they didn't have a track record with them. They were cheaper than NH by a good percentage (maybe 25% IIRC).
