cowboychris, we have about the same Model Gator and grinding is just a fact of lift at times it seems. Slow shifting is worse as gatorraider pointed out.

No idea of prices are fair or not but how long has the 2009 been on lot? If the 2007 hit later in year than the 2009 did to the lot the time there may not be much more than a year.

I would look carefully at the 2007 for signs of rust and such from sitting in the weather. Even seat weathering for they are will split and if it has wooden bottom rot (my two Kubota's neither this model has done both and both kept mostly undershed. Just realize the one that rotted for about 1 or 2 years did not live under shelter waiting for it to be built.

It is easy to say for the $1800 difference I would go with the 2007 until I think and then it is very easy to say only if the price difference would affect my ability of buying it or needed equipment. In one year from now you will either have a one year or three year old tractor. In twenty years those two years will make little difference.

No idea on transmission difference.
Am sure others will chime in.

On the PTO, see if there is a roll pin in the lever that has worked loose and not rotating the shaft. You should be able to see if the shaft is rotating when working the lever, with tractor off of course.
I have operated a Massey or two from about that time frame and do not remember any other PTO controls. On one model the transmission level had enough play in it (designed issue, not wear) to allow you to pick it up enough it would clear the shifter linkage in the transmission. Not hard to fix but easier to just don't lift up the lever when shifting.

Just wondering, would it be possible to install them inside headlights? Realize you would have to do something to prevent the light from within the fixture flooding them and it would also affect the beam.

These are comments in general about Massey tractors.

It does not seem like many here have them so you will get little feed back probably, as you are aware.

Massey has not built their own in years. No idea who builds them now they are owned by Agco who is a large company with many brands they have bought over the years. Massey did run two product lines, a very good one with at least some of those model built then in England and then a very price model line built in Turkey if memory is correct. They had other companies building for them in other countries. Was told this is why there can be the variance even in the paint color some claim there is.

In my part of the world compact Massey's just are not near as common as Kubota, John Deere, New Holland or even Kioti and there is as about as well stocked Massey dealer here as any brand.

In stepping out on limited information it is my impression Massey don't have the life some other brands do. This may be with their lower price products as that is what my brother has (how I learned about the lower price and poorer designed line).

Have had no experience with a Massey built probably in the last 10 years other than walking by them on Kubota lot.

My area has a lot of compact tractors owned by homeowners and contractors and then jumping to farmers. I sell by far more Massey in the over 100 hp size and you don't see many of those. Seldom enough they get my attention when I do.

I agree with Jeff, have them look on say 54 Ford carb linkage. No cable then all rods.

If you are needing to make one you may find the end of a high pressure cylinger will work.

Congratulations on the tractor and being here.

It seems you have a hydrostat transmisson when you mention "push for reverse". If so you should be able to install a push on light switch to control rear lights as you desire. However think there will be times you would want them on steady.

No idea on the wires you found but others have posted they use part of wiring harness with success. I ran wire from fuse panel.

On filling tires, you can buy for about $10 a valve that you screw onto the valve stem (after removing the core) and run what ever liquid you choose in the tires. If you will be doing that you want to place a jack under the tractor to take the weight off the tire you are filling. The max you place in a tire is 75% wich is with valve stem at top of rim. The calicum many say rust metal. There is a beet juice mixture used that is safe, you will need to call dealers to find it and price it. Based upon others it is the most expensive fluid. In my tires and what is normally done here is regular antifreeze mixture. Some here who don't run there tractors in winter use only water as it does not get cold enough to damage a parked tire.
You will find many here who recommend not filling the tires but useing such as box blade or even making a weight for the 3 pth. If you will be using thr tractor for mowing grass this makes good sense to keep weight down for lawns.
