No advice on the linkage hitting but do you have weight on the lift when you are trying to adjust the tilt or third arm? If you are trying to adjust that with an implement on the 3 pth, yep can not adjust normally unless you take the load weight off of that third arm or big muscles.

Not sure which would be worse but how about Rap Music playing in the attic? It was only a few years ago I learned bats can create a real health problem being in the attic. I seldom see them. Even put up a bat house and still no bats.

So do you have bad breath or bad attitude or I suspcet need to find another dealership. :) There are some very good ones out there. Not shocked a dealership does not look for used tractors as an individual would. There is probably about 10 dealerships within 50 miles or me or more and there is only one that normally has used tractors on it. They seem to really go looking for them. The others seem to let them come to them.

Ok, let me change my suggestion to where I really meant to make it, take it to a "parts store". I have had some good success with that. Guess since the dealership I buy most parts and such from also being a parts store did not make it clear. Sorry.

My wife gave me a Drill Doctor about 5 years ago that was just over $100. Think at that time was the only model Lowes sold. For over 1/8" is does fine IF you follow each step. Bought larger chuck for it to do 3/4". Have used it very little. I did have a simple attachement for bench grinder that I really liked. In moving lost part of it. Wheel on the grinder was the issue, needed a top quality one.

Two comments, first pat on the back for being a good neighbor.

Second, what a simple idea if it works. No way am I saying it will not work. Just lossing some capacity which means you will run out of gas with a not empty tank.

Like EW have not used tiller on tractor but the walkbehind I had was reverse rotation Troy Bilt. I do not believe there is MORE compation with the reverse rotation. If there is any difference it would have to be very little. I know the soil after the Troy Bilt went though it could not have been torn up any better and has been said it was smoother than a forward rotating tiller.

The question on the rocks, don't know, we don't have them.

The comment about trash wrapping around the tines and such, it has been a few years since I stopped with and sold my tiller but never remember that being an issue on the reverse rotation. Mine left a clean path. Would only consider a reverse rotation walk behind tiller after using one and watching step father and brother in law fight the foward rotation models.

First welcome neighbor.

No price expert but for my nickel, you could be spending serious money in the PTO and in the engine as overheating could be caused by serious problem or simple one. It could also have done a lot of damage even if the cause was simple. At same time sitting is not helping such as cylinder walls and other machined parts and four years for rain on it and into it. He may be insulted but too me $2,000 the top I would consider.

If he sells it and when all repairs are made and you find they were on the low side in cost, then pay him another $1,000 or $2,000. You can be sure if you open it up to find a cracked block you will not then be able to ask for a refund.

Before you buy it, look at all fluids carefully and you may even wish to open the engine and transmission drains to look for water there.

Just wondering, how do you know the PTO worked when it wanted to? Is this his memory and has it been fired up and used recently?

It is possible both the PTO and overheating are due to him using too large a cutter or such on the tractor to where it damaged the PTO clutch and over loaded the engine. But the damage still would be there even if the load were removed.

Good thing you are a tractor mechanic. Breaking a tractor into is not something I would enjoy nor have tools for.

take it you have already looked into adjusting the clutch and it will not develop proper clamping force.

Trent, Chief asked this question and I did not see any reply to it. I would be sure there all is adjusted properly and no linkage binding or anything else preventing the clutch to fully release before spending any such amount of money or work.

There have been a few post here about clutches rusting to flywheels. The most recent one I remember required breaking the tractor apart to free it.

Doug, how good are you at welding? :) If they really did use off the shelf parts as Murf mention, maybe just maybe one of the 3 party brand of FEL companies made it for them. You may wish to contact those companies asking. But price??? It probably would be more than you want to pay.

If it has 3 point hitch on the rear that is standard you should have no problem finding attachments for that.
