ncrunch How much distance to you need to get? You may be able to get around that issue. There are other ways to tweak the adjustments.

There are lots of them avaiable out there. I believe I am going to build my own this year.

Have the hyd stuff. Just have to do some dumpster diving for some scrap. Several head pulleys from conveyos in there now those take care of shafts and pivot points just need to cut the arms and linkages.

Front end loaders work much better. BUT there is a $2000 price difference.

I used the little scoop on the back of my Ford for years. Pulling forward works like a slip scraper.

Gravels usually nessetate a minor modification to keep material from wedging between the scoop and the frame.

They work good I used one for years, I moved a lot of dirt with the little Ford and that scoop. I traded the tractor on a new one and got more than I paid for it on a new one.

The new one has FEL and I can move almost 3X as moch in 1 bucket now.

Road "ROAD" work is figures in sq yards. It will depend on how heavy of a coverage you want.

Figure lenght X Width X gals per yd.

Depending on what your drive is and how you mix will determine your application rate.

Generally for light dust control .25 to .50 gals per yd should be enough. Much more or a really tight base and it runs off into the ditch.

Anyway it gives you a starting point.

av8r I use my back blade more than a box scraper. Mainly because the back blade is wider.

First I'll rough out the high spots and fill the low spots. I like to keep a sharp angle on the blade to help smooth the up and down.

I'll then adjust the cutting edge to be less agressive set the blade to the depth I want Straddle the wind row and pull material straight to bring down the crown.

I then use the back blade backwards to cuff off the crown finish the low spots and final grade.

I put almost 3000 hours on my little 2nd hand Ford and only adjusted it twice. It had close to 4000 hours on it when it went down the road.

My 2.5 year old JD4400 has 700 or so hours on it now. clutch linkage adjusters came loose first 100 or so hours and all had to be reajusted. Took some reading and some fiddling to be comfortable with result.

I learned about clutches the hard way. My dad would wail my knee with a stick (or verbal) anytime the foot got near the pedal unless I was fully depressing to stop or change gears. Never set idling with clutch pushed in gear.

It was a well learned lesson and I am glad to have learned it young. I operate heavy equipment much the same way.

I see waaaaaay too many clutch slippers today. HST is a good thing for some.

burton I have a landpride scraper plus other dirt stuff. On the JD CUT I pull both swing arm stabilizer pins, push scraper all the way to one side and repin stabilizers in that position usually gain 8+" by doing that. My old Ford had chains I tighten one and loosen the other...

I sometimes do that with the 3ph blower if I need to clear a little closer to a ditch with out worring about going in the ditch.

Tom You are expecting a little much out of the tractor supply companies. Their prices are cheap because of the short cuts they take. The paint for the most part isn't even primed first. Lighter weight metal than the dealer brands. Most of the parts are lighter duty.

I have tractor supply stuff it is cheap but it will do the job. I have a 4' rotary cutter over 15 years old it is beat all to pieces but it still does the job I need it to.

Just do not expect to much out of it or from them for what you paid for it.

Wood sheds are the best way, but not the only way. My new one has 6' overhangs for equipment storage. The wood bays are 10'X10'X10'. It's built like a crib and wood is thrown in and not stacked. This year it go in by elevator. But I try to stay a year ahead also.

I also have access to used conveyor belting 36" wide. If I could only stack in rows outside it would be on landscape timbers and covered with this type of belting.

We have lots and it would be worth a trip. Many of the towns come and scrounge it for their floors to drive their chained up plows on.

The notched disks tend to turn and cut more in sod, stubble and other untilled soil.

The smooth disks work good in well tilled soil but will clog up and not want to turn in sod and stubble.

Moisture of the soil also plays a large part in the equasion.

There are lots of mini excavator used parts dealers out there. Along with regular equipment parts dealers.

Ya-all probably started seeing those things in your country long B4 they ever hit us here in the states.

Kully Not sure where in NY you are located. There is a Dealer of lots of old stuff in Newark Valley, Goodrich Equipment.

Many times a large ag dealer will know where something might be sitting in a hedge row also.

I do all of my pine trees by backing under. I have a old sickle bar mower that works also. I use that for the road banks and ditches. But the majority of trimming under low stuff is with mower by backing.<br>

Let me add: Generally I try and keep the deck adjusted level and hold some of the weight up on the tractor. This seems to help the 4 tires pivot easier with less twisting of the tire.

The 430 will not fit. Why bother to try and modify? The front axle and tires of the 4200 will not handle anymore weight.

The loader designed to go on it will give you better preformance than something cobbed up to fit.

You can put a larger bucket on the 420. Those will fit. Your grapples will fit.

You will get your money back at the time of trade. My thought is if you are thinking about upgrading get to dealing. JD can peel a pile of cash off when you buy a tractor and the accessories cost a lot less. I have not looked at the intrest rates lately.

I WOULD NOT RUN IT UNTIL IT HAS HAD A COMPRESSION CHECK!

Fuel does not cause your type of a problem "ALL OF A SUDDEN". Mechanical things cause all of a sudden stuff.

Hopefully something easy like a Injector nozzle went to lunch, possibily dropped valve and no dammage to piston.

BA yes a rake will. The key to it is go real ssssllllllllooooooowwwwww. You will get the surface rocks. Fast picks out lower rocks. Gadge wheels make it easier, Iam told. I have never used a set in 14 years of use.

mattdavid I really was not defending the little orange hoe. I was remarking about how much easier something that runs on diesel is vs a shovel.

You are right the little ones are darn right small and somewhat slow. But it is better than waiting for a contractor and much better than a wheelbarrow and shovel. But that is just my opnion.

We have guys at work making in excess of $28.00 per hour whine when they have to run a smaller machine and it takes longer to dig and they have 4-5 hours of OT to finish the job. GO FIGURE!

Granite it does take some patience to get used to the baby machines. Not many things will beat a 25+ ton excavator. Actually this miniture 4400 and 48 hoe teaches me to work smarter, check grades more often. I do not have instant movement, I can not get across trenches, won't even go into reach, only 180 degree swing. I have to do things better the first time or I end up shoveling or refilling. It's nice when there are 3-4 guys on the ground shooting grades etc. At home it's just me and my little toy. A NICE RELAXING AFTERNOON!

Ken I am sure you have lots more info than you probably want or wanted. However ever I feel a need to dump in a little more for thought.

1. Run a sub panel into your garage/shop at 100 amps. That will give you more flexibility.

2. Do a minimum of 50 or better yet 60 amp to your welder.

3. CHECK WITH a local "WELDING ONLY" supply. They will have tips and tricks. They will show you the basics... You can find some smokin deals on used equipment. Example I bought a Linclon DC 250 machine that is $3000 new for $750. It is MIG, TIG and stick ready. The current is so smooth I have run 1/16" rod to fix sheet metal up to 5/32 doing the wedge on my splitter. They will also have smaller welders. You can also rent some to try out. Used MIG modules are less than 1/2 new prices.

4. Air compressors and other larger tools will also thank you for the good solid power supply.
