Seems like my defrosters work alot better with the a/c compressor switch on. My newer vehicles the a/c compressor is auto matic with defrost.

I can not see a downside to the a/c compressor summer or winter.

Is the air intake for the cab filtered?

You'll run your self nuts with this and who says what. Here's what I do with my tractor tires and it does not matter what style.

Look at the tire print on the driveway. Do you have a full contact patch across the tire? if not soften the tire until you do. Do not over soften. The edge of the tire should just be a little off the ground. My best guide is wet tires and dry garage floor when I drive in. I also look at snow imprint when I back out into fresh snow.

If you only use your loader occassionally I'd do the tires as the tractor mostly will be worked. Mine are set for loader on, empty bucket. I mow with loader off and the only time I have ever changed my front tire pressure was for a exceptional, 2 days of gravel moving, operation. I have never changed my rear tires even with the backhoe mounted, it is not on there but a few hours at a time. If I was to leave it mounted I'd change the pressures for that operation.

Tire pressure in these tires is not rocket science but you do need them firm enough not to roll off the rim in a hard turn or side hill operation and soft enough to make full contact with ground.

You can still buy the tips at tractor supply. You can also buy the whole tooth. I have not found a source for the clamps that hold the teeth to the bar. There are lots of different styles out there so you need to be flexible. Ussually a couple pieces of flat stock and some bolts will work fine.

I started with a very old set of spring tooth drags/harrows. Found a better set in an abonanded field and went wheeling and dealing for them and got them for free, but he still has option to use my york rake but its been 6-7 years now. Took the old ones apart and have all the parts stached.

I've since found a 3ph set of Ford drags 8' wide and have refurbished them with some of the other parts. They are currently parked and have not been used in a couple of years.

Be patient and look in old hedge rows, farmers are nortious for parking stuff there and in the edge of wood lots. Talk to them you'd be surprised at the treasures.

Chief Art is correct. If you change the fuel ratio on a diesel you change the HP and keep the same rpm. If you change the timing in concert with the fuel adjustment you can change the torque.

On a diesel there is no point in changing the rpm unless you just wanna go faster at the top end.

You are correct with the rpm thought BUT HP does not move the load Torque does.

Will the folks ay EPA be proud of you? NOPE!

I only use tightners if I'm going to operate at road speeds. You do not need them just working around your property. Chains that can move around on your tires as they turn and work work better than the tight ones. And no u will not wear out your tires by the chains moving.

Get a 12V test light and check for hot circuits B4 U turn your lights on. Then check lighting circuits hook your fused lead tho the 1 u want and tape the connection.

I just gotta say this even if it's not really thread related.

We have a local guy here that deals with old Farmalls and has a salvage yard. He has restored a lot of old iron. Art you may even know him, Dick Stoyell, Anyway his favorite tractors are the c's. He pulls them at antique tractor pulls and usually does a very good job I've seen him load them down with weights to pull in the heavier stock classes and whip tractors twice his size.

The c's were and still are very common around here. If anyone is intrested I will keep an eye out for them the weekly swap sheet always has something.

I use a 3ph boom and keep the chain and tongs in tight on the boom.

I do not hear to much about the 3ph booms here. But it is one of the most handy pieces of equipment I have for small tractor. I do use my bucket a lot now but the boom still has its advantages.

Hummmmmm I recall a dealer up in Sangerfield using a couple of those terms, (left colum).

HOW YA DOING ART? Snow blower working good. Freed up the shoes and built some very wide ones for it. Still wants some paint, but thats another day.

PeterI'll take a stab at it. #1 is your tractor stored indoors warm and toasty? If so when you move it outside come back in and get dressed for the weather give the bucket time to cool down. #2 If you store outdoors and your bucket is cold if you get down close to the ground the warmer snow is going to freeze to the bucket.

I've heard of guys stealing the wifes PAM to spray their buckets me thinks it might work but seems like it would get real expensive. You might even try rain X or silicon spray.

Also try banging the bucket when you empty at the bottom of the curl ussually if you rattle it a few times snow will break loose.

When parking put your bucket in the dump position and let the buchet rest on the cutting edge. I try and keep mine in the dump position most of the time when outside waiting for temps to adjust.

I know some days its worse than others for sticking but mostly I believe its difference in air temps and snow temps.

Mine is parked inside by the wood stove so I do have some problems with it now and again.

Ya-all that can pull up and fill up with off road non-road taxed diesel are, me thinks, the few. The dealers here have been burned by customers that have done it and been caught they do not risk the wrath of the IRS folks.

The IRS is real pissy about it here in Central NY they have agents at DOT check points when their hearts so desire and they vampire fuel tanks for dyed fuel. First offense here is $2500.

The EPA folks are so snotty about it that they come into our quarries and check the trucks we use. It does not matter if truck is used off road or not if it was designed for on road use no matter how many years ago it better have only low sulfur in it.

I've always said snow is for playing. I look fwd to lots of snow to play in.

Some people might think someone is a little off when they jump for joy to go and play in snow. Slide down hill on it, push it around, blow it, slide down it some more...

We're only getting a inch or so of it here but already have 6+ on the ground from a week ago, Lake effect stuff.

Morning John You should be able to move the seat back some. My 4400 JD will move back a couple more inches if I needed to. Of course when BH on the seats fight each other.

Tilt steering I would think is a must 4 U the JD's have that I'm 6'1" and find myself reaching when it's all streached out. Telescope would also be a very nice feature for taller people.

I agree on the hydro pedal placements. I've looked at them and shake my head. JD has brakes on the wrong side, to much retraining 4 me. But I know lottsa people that use left foot on brake so it probably works for them.

JD has cruise and all the stuff to work for you. Me I put it in the gear I mow in set the throttle and have cruise with my gear tractor.

The seat switch is un hooked so if I wanna stand up and scratch my self I can, If I need to get off to see what is making a racket with pto running I can.

The new JD's have a new funny bend in the bucket control lever that is suspose to help with the knee problem when you are watching equipment to the right rear.

GOTTA LAUGH TomG. Our company's insurance requires those whistles on all company vehicles. SOOOOOO we usually have a minimum of 2 sets. Still hit lots of deer.

We haul asphalt out of Nanticoke, Oakville and Missassiaugga, Ont during the winter and we see lots of ONT plates here headed south/north that hit deer so we were thinking maybe deer up there do not understand the US whistles cause they might not say, A :-)) LMAO... and vice-versus. So you might wanna check the package and see where they were made.

I'll bring it up again, (to check were made maybe Tiawan if so no wonder we are still hitting deer US deer probably do not understand Chineese), at our Spring safety training its always good for a chuckle.

Wildman you also might want to consider a 2-way communicator, (cell phone, walkie talkie, cb's) that way if you are all warm and toastie and you plug your chute you can call you significant other to get their butt out there and unplug it for you.

My wife says I'll never have a cab and if I do ...

If you can mix and match up parts many of the lower end brands get sold or discontinued and parts become a problem Many times if you are saavy with parts you can track down another part from another brand and get by.

The big boys will continue to make parts for what works. You are more likely to find parts 10 years from now from woods, landpride, JD, kombota, (FordnHcase) or whatever it is at the moment.

John I rent a 3ph broadcast spreader for stoff like fertilizer. If you try that for lime it probably won't work usless you get some really dry lime delivered.

For grass seed I use a hand held broadcast spreader and have the wife follow me with seed and stuff in bucket. Does not take long to do thak way.

Lime I'd check with local ag store they have equipment ussually no charge and they will fill it with what you need and explain how to use.
