Jim as Roger L. said most rims for turf tires can be turned around or swapped side to side for more clearance.

Me thinks it would be a odd wheel that can not.

That said there is lots of dicussion about spacers in the archives.

Namaste Me thinks Plots1 or Kwschumm have a picture posted of one in use. Can not tell you if same brand or not.

They will probably spot your post a reply. If they do not you can rattle their cage for an answer.

It looks like a handy attachment if you do a fair amount of work with ball type couplers.

I put a ball in my draw bar for that little bit of stuff I ever do with a ball hitch on my tractor.

Did you change the 30k limit at all? Seems like it is working better now. BUT I still have a real tuff time getting them to that limit.

Some are posted real large size. I can only get little dinky ones to post.

Chief check your yellow pages for gas pumps, tanks etc. They will have exactly the unit you will need and it willl plum right onto your stuff. You can get any type of large fuel filter there also.

Your better quality "LOCAL OWNED" auto parts suppliers will also have access to this stuff.

Road construction is really cranking now till????? Well until Mother Nature makes her ruling. Working 70+ hour weeks now with 80+ the rule after holiday until Oct or so. We have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go and not enought summer to get there. (TOO much summer for me)

I have no idea of the blade structure, But if they are flat enought just turn them over and install up side down. How will the belt tensioner work running backwards in heavy mowing??? Use a heavier spring???

AHHHHHH!!!!! The PTO BRAKE. These are truely a pain. I know why they are there BUTTTTTTTT!

On my 4400 JD I ease the pto lever into the run position and bring the throttle up. shutting down I throttle back to idle, here is where you will see your over running clutch at work especially with brush cutter. I then ease the pto lever out of the run position and bring back to the edge of the brake position and finish letting the cutter spin down before bringing the lever into the lock position. I do not think I have missed this procedure with brush cutter yet. But my hat came off under a low branch when I was mowing the lawn. I was on the clutch, brakes and pto all at same time and pto when from full speed to lock in an intant you outta heard the belts squeak then...

My$.02 worth. I hardley ever idle little tractor eng during the summer. When I have been working the engine very hard mowing I bring it back to the garage a a medium idle in a lower gear that way the head and other parts cool down evenly.

During the winter I am apt to let engine idle a little longer than I probably should. But like Tom said I keep it at a fast idle to keep it warm.

Turbo charged engines need to idle down for a few minutes to allow the turbo to spin down with lubrication before shutting down. Other wise the turbo spins down with no lubrication.

Tracer There is usually a casting mark on the PTO coupler. I line them up with the splines on the PTO shaft.

PROBLEM NEW STUPID SYSTEMS WITH A BRAKE BUILT IN. It is a fine line where the PTO shaft will turn (WITH OUT ENGINE RUNNING) by hand to align the splines. Usually I rotate the implement to get splines to align.

Most of my guards are removed to faciliate cleaning and greasing when I am done with them so it makes it easy to aline the splines while turning the belts or other stuff with my foot.

Sorry safety guys it's how I do it. We won't discuss balers choppers or other BIG stuff...

DKI the beauty of greasing is that it tries to push contanimants out. I use old cotton T's to clean excess where needed.

I use a Hostey pressure washer with hot water to remove dirt and stuff. PROBLEM the pressure washer pushes water and garbage back into and around the pivit points so I do not direct the spray at the joint. I also wash equipment first then grease. I try not to use chemicals that will affect the preformance of the grease. If I did what's the point of greasing?

I use a grease very heavy with Moly and it does not wash off very well even with HOT!!! water.

The other thing this excess grease does is catch dirt and stuff away from the joint you are trying to protect.

Well lubed is a good thing, until your wife touches it with a fresh manicure...

ScottB "What Tom said" Unless you are into sweat get the BH that mounts to the tractor when you buy it. The newer JD's mount much easier than the older models

I needed a backhoe like I needed another butt. BUT when I needed to dig something small it was either wait for a contractors convienence and pay extra trucking for a couple of hours work or get out the round point, pick and beg the two boys to come over for a free meal for some digging. Feeding them I might better pay the contractor. OR I could dig it in several hours myself...

Hard to tell you what size you will need. Its kinda like shopping for a woman... what ever your're told will not be right.

Go out and try them, Just like a date, get what you like the best. All have good points and bad points.

Mostly your insurance needs to cover your use. If it is a lawn mower and stays in your yard and never in the road homeowners is probably ok.

If it is off your primary property and travels on the road at all a seperate policy would be a good thing.

Me thinks it is best to treat tractor seperate like my other hi value items. I have seperate rider policies on several items here...

JAZAKS just a thought: I live in NY and help a neighbor now and then. If you are digging, their homeowners WILL NOT cover you. You are way out on a skinny limb. Their insurance carrier will probably sue you also if you hit a utility line or cause damage to property that requires a claim. My insurance carrier fusses real bad because I do not have contractor insurance when I help a neighbor. This is a rural farming community and that practice is still accepted in heart but not by insurance people. Digging in NY is a whole seperate insurance issue because of utility laws. Several insurance companies that will write for compact will not write if it has a backhoe on it.

KWS... I'm not a welder either. I have a small ac/dc buzz box. I have a good warranty on my work: 30 feet or 30 minutes... I can get most stuff stuck together. (Well I'm not bad at it either). I looked at your address and see we are on opposite sides of the planet. But your freebie offer still stands... If you have some free time this winter...

I was out mowing and spotted a forgotten treasure. (wife calls it junk) A little frame from a popup camper. It was/is gonna be a light weight trailer for something some day. A little cutting and a little welding.

Watch your auctions many times you can get stuff you can use. I remember a cart like Peters is talking about a few years ago that went for $25. The wood wagon in my pics is to big for what you want but I bought that for $35 and it was still full. All rotted down even.

DKI The old M has about 5.5 face cords and little JD has almost 7 on it. Wife runs an embroidery business (if the IRS reads this) and sells to fire wood guy and he sells to us. It is a good arrangement. It is also a lot easier on equipment, and me, than going to the woods.

Bought tub spreader at auction for $35.00 full of "HUMUS" had to do some cutting and fixing...

Have 30+ face cord of wood at boys (oldest son) house to cut up and split yet this year. We cleared some land for him to build a big garage/shop.

Have to build a new wood shed this year, it's in progress now, my old wood shed has been enclosed and I have 2000+ board feet of lumber stickered up drying and other toys stored in it. Plus all of Boys stuff that should be in his garage if he'll ever get off his butt and get it started.

Wife said I could no longer use the cover by the pond for wood because that was built for pinic cover on Sunday afternoon Bar-B-Q's rain or shine...

Too much to do and not sure where to find the time...

My biggest problem with the PTO lever was getting it to come off the brake without really jamming the clutches. I can do it very smoothly now by bumping the lever off the brake and easing it into full pto lock.

I always ease it into pto speed. I do not shock load the drivelines and belts by jamming the lever in.

I also do not pull the lever from pto speed into the brake position until the implement speed has came done to a slow speed. Again this is a strain on the implement drive line and the tractor system to suddenly try to stop it. I'm not sure if the clutches and brake inside the tractor would handle my brush hog jamming it in or out.

Clutches are to protect the drive lines by giving a smooth transfer of power either on or off.

How many hours is on it???? It sounds like a fuel starvation problem. What condition are the lines in? Bends or kinks? Rubber sections are fuel rated and not comming apart inside?

CHECK ALL OF THE CHEAP AND EASY TO FIX FIRST!

Are you pouring water on the injector pump while it is skipping and hard at work. Or did it get a chance to rest a little while you got the water?

If it is the injector pump I suspect you would have a problem across the board with it. But strange things do happen. Unless you have something very weird I would not support vapor lock theory.

Does this model have a fuel pump seperate from the injector pump? Or is it buitl in?

Also to buy into Tom are you sure it is a good grade of fuel?

The bacteria that causes diesels a problem is a type of alge. It may be the same stuff ya-all are discussing. But I am sure it is not gonna eat gallos of fuel. That may sound good to cover a leak somewhere they can not find.

What it does do is plug filters. It should never get to your injectors, if you use good filters and change them. Fuel systems do not have, the ones we use, bypasses on them. When it plugs you are not going any where. If you take a filer apart it will have a very black residue all over the elements, if it is an alge.

There is no real special trick to getting rid or preventing it. There are many treatments sold. Caution more treatmant is not better. Some treatments are not going to go thru your filters and you will plug them more quickly.

We had a spat of it a few years ago with our fleet trucks and it only bothered 4 trucks. The filters 2 of them would plug in 3-4 thousand miles. The first filter after the seperator would plug solid the 2nd filter which is finer would have a good trace on it. The 4 trucks had preseperators and preheaters and they were not serviced like they should have been. They did have to be taken apart and cleaned.

Rumors about the distributor having bad fuel were abundant and owners took their filters to them and the distributor replaced them. The storage tanks were treated and filers installed before the pumps caught any problems and life goes on.

Cheif you bring up some very unplasent memories for me. I hate Helicopters and it was worse when the moron pilot knew it...

But I will say I had the greatest admiration of the Dust offs in Viet Nam. But I never had to ride with one of them either. They could get them into the most impossible spots stop them on a dime from full speed and set them down so gently it was pleasuse to watch them operate except for the reason they were in a hurry...

Bottom line here: EXPERIENCE you do not get good at some thing till you've done it for a while.

kws... Those tires for the JD sound like R-1 tires. I did not look it up. That would be close to the size for my 4400. BTW me thinks the 4400 has just a tad larger tire than the 4300 or 10 series, whatever. That was why I went with the 4400, beefer rubber.

Unless you are working in the woods or hilling potatos ground clearance is a minor point. You'll always find something 1/2" higher than your lowest point on tractor.

I have problems with old stumps and boulders in the woods with my old "M".
