Just curious why you want the chains instead of blades? Years ago I had a flail type rear cutter, where the knives swing on two or three chain links from a horizontal drum that was driven from one end by a gearbox v-belt system from the pto. I don't remember the brand , but it did do a nice job till the knives started to dull. It seemed to take lots of power, then soon became a matinence nightmare, the knives dulled quickly and were expensive to replace, you could'nt replace just one because of ballance problems. Finaly I got just a conventional rotary cutter, and yes the knives do get banged up, but theyre much easiere to replace than a bunch of chains.

With the hoe off does the 110 have a 540 PTO and a 3 pt.? On any scale be it big or small rear mount blower and front end loader on the same tractor make an awsome snow machine. I have an 8 ft. blower and an 8 ft. snow bucket on a Case 1070, (about 100 hp.), it really makes a neat oufit. The only difference between the 100 hp. unit and the 40 hp. unit would be more time to move like amounts of snow. Be careful where you point the snow chute, small rocks, etc. will clean out the windows, and smack up siding real fast.

Reishorse, I have an identical outfit except for the mid mount mower, mine has about 300 hrs. on it. It's been a real good machine. I really don't keep up on used prices well enough to give you an estimate of it's worth, but I do think they hold their value quite well. I can't think of any reason why having the mid mount mower on while using the hoe would damage the tractor. I would be more concerned about damaging the mower deck while backfilling etc. by jaming mud, rocks, etc. up under the deck

I fully agree with the other folks in that a 3 PT. backhoe is likely to tear up the hitch on your tractor. Just to avoid warranty problems, I think I'd stick with matched brands of tractor hoe combinations, and definetly a hoe that mounts on a subframe that is attached to the main frame of the tractor, not on the 3pt. No matter what your choice of brand is I'm sure that they all have a frame mounted hoe designed to match their tractor. Good luck on your walls.

The only tiller experience I've had is with a rear mount tiller on a JD #345, they do a fine job, only are more time consuming to mount than a 3 pt. would be. So I too am curious about Land Pride tillers, especially the reverse till models where the tines turn in the opposite direction of other tillers, so I too would enjoy any experiences with the RTA series or the RTR reverse tine series. I forgot to answer your question on spring loaded , or manualy adjusted belt idlers. Hand tightened would probably work ok as long as you check them on a regular basis, but spring loaded ones really work neat. I've also found that it's a good idea to take the covers off the belts every couple mowings to clean out the dirt, clippings, etc., that will collect under there. I've allways been amazed at how much power you can put thru that single V-belt between the gear box and the blade spindles, I've never had to replace one. I'll shut up for now and let others give you their ideas.

Roger, I'm not familiar enough with a JD #80 loader to know much about them. If you live near any agricultural aeria there are usually consingment auctions that you can find listed in the paper that will have a wide variety of used equip. from the biggest to the smallest. I don't go to them much anymore because I allways brought home something I did'nt need, but they're fun to attend.

Jack, if the fluid in your hyd system was not Ford NH product it may not have had the proper cold flow specs. to get thru the micron size of your filter, which could stop flow. I have had a key shear on a hyd pump (not a Ford NH), and you do lose all pressure instantly. Some systems use a charge pump to feed the main hyd. pump with low pressure fluid from the sump to prevent cavitation in your main pump. Again I'm not familiar with the Ford NH system, but if either pump fails (charge or main, you're out of business. Just some thoughts that may help.

Charlie, Is a Longtrac a large frame compact or a more conventional small farm tractor? If your tractor is as heavy as an "M" Farmall or an "A" John Deere (they were about 4500 - 5000 lbs.) with about 45 horse power, you should be able to pull it especially if your plow is a 3 point hitch, that will put a lot more weight on the rear wheels of your tractor compared to a pull type plow but for safety's sake you'll probably need some front weithts on your tractor with the 3 pt.. I don't know much about Texas clay, but in heavy black Iowa soil an "M" would handle a 3/16 pull type plow in second gear, about 3 mph. As in the proir post some help from a neighbor with moldboard experience would help you a lot. Good luck.

I've really not studied the circutry of the hydraulics on the 4300, but when the tech. at JD put it on for my hoe, he warned me not to have the engine running with the PB hose disconnected from the 3pt. circut or the hoe circut, so I'm assuming it's a direct circut from the pump, w/ or w/o a relief valve in the line, I don't know. I think you should talk with a JD tech to see wht type of SCV to use to provide pressure relief/bypass, or whatever type valve that won't damage your tractor system.

Tom, the county road dept. here has one of those on a good sized tractor with lots of counterweights and it does an amazing job of cleaning up brush. I've did quite a bit of research on the weight of different brands of small rotary cutters, and decided that most of them would simply be to heavy for the frame of a compact to suport with that much leverage out to the right side. Really all I'm trying to do is mow grass on the slopes, not clear brush, so I got hold of a used mid mount mower deck from a JD 400 series lawn tractor, I really haven't weighed it, but I doubt it weighs 200 lbs. I don't have a heated farm shop, so It'll be a while before I get started on it, in the meantime any ideas or experience with something like this would be welcome.

17 Acres, I haven't saw a top and tilt on a tractor, but do know what they are. I've got a Land Pride 45 Series rear blade that has a tilt cylinder for the blade plus a swing cylinder for the hitch frame. These two adjustments turn an ordinary blade into an awsome machine. The 45 Series might be too heavy for your 4610, but I'm sure they make like blades in smaller sizes I don't remember the cost difference between mine and a conventional blade, nor the cost of a top and tilt, but I do know what a great feature it could be for a blade, box scraper, etc.. Hope this info helps.

Ccongradulations on your new tractor,I just got my 4310 this winter so haven't had a chance to use it yet. We have identical units except mine is the 12/12 trans. Ive got a 4300 w/ 430 loader and 48 back hoe, 12/12 trans. My loader is the 430, and it's been so handy that I've never had it off. I've saw new loaders on the shipping pallet, and I think there pretty much complete except for puting the brackets on the tractor. We've got a real good dealer close by, so what few problems I had with the 4300 were taken care of promtly. Enjoy your new tractor.

It would be interesting to weigh the front and rear axles on a 4000 series. On the 7000 and 8000 series Deere does put some quite specific front to rear weight ratios in the manual depending on the load you're pulling ( whether it be drawn, 3 pt. mounted, etc.). We run about 35 -40% front and60 - 65% rear for drawbar drawn implements, but remember the rear usually has dual wheels, so that might make a difference.

Harvey, yes my #48 hoe for the 4300 tractor came with an extension hose for the power beond. It is a tight fit, but with the extension hose it works ok. I also found that changing the backhoe seat bracket from the inside of the hoe frame to the outside of the frame gave enough clearance so the tractor seat back and the backhoe seat back aren't rubing together.

Jeff, I've got a 4300 and a 4310 both with 4/wheel drive and the 12/12 reverser. It is amazing the amount of work you can do with a loader, but I'm afraid with 2/wheel drive and especially with the turf tires youre going to be real dissapointed. On wet grass or the slightest muddy condition the weight of the loader alone out front will probably have you stuck. With 4/w/d you will get along ok with the turf tires, but R4's have worked great for me, there not hard on turf, but in wet conditions you've got much better traction. The price may be fine now, but at trade in time it may be a little hard to move.

I'm not at all familiar with a #9 JD mower, but if it was originally mant to go on an regular size small farm tractor then it probably was designed to mount on a tractor with a much wider wheel stance than yours, hence the end of your sickle bar will be much farther out from your right rear tractor tire than 6.5 ft.. This may create an overballance situation that could be dangerous. I'd do some measuring before I bought it. Sickle bar mowers have been use for ages to cut hay. They will do a fine job as long as the sickle bar is kept in good repair, a worn out sickle will drive you nuts by being pluged most of the time.

I test drove a couple 4000 series hydros and basicly had the same experience with my leg and foot becoming tired, so I bought a 4300 12/12 reverser and have liked it so well that this past fall I orderd a 4310 with the 12/12 e-reverser ( you don't need to use the foot clutch to change directions, just flip the reverser lever, or you can still use the clutch if you want to. I did test drive a 10 series hydro, and the hydro petals are much better than the 4000 series, but wanted to keep both tractors alike plus I liked the lower cost. Being I've driven farm tractors all my life with the clutch being on the left and the brakes on the right it was just a more secure feeling in case of a panic stop situation.

I have no idea what percentage of our oil is imported from other countrys, nor do I know the size of our strategic reserves, but Im sure that if a group of hostile nations decided to bring us to our knees by just plain cutting our source of oil and we were forced to get along with say 35% of our normal use rate, who would determine who got fuel and who did'nt. I just hope that our government officials who make decisions on such matters, whether it be thru ethanol production, soydiesel, methane production, biomass or whatever have the good sense to keep an eye turned toward long term security, by coming up with ways to make us less dependent on outside sources. If this does become a true dedication of our government, it will cost all of us something, whether he be farmer, factory worker, executive, whatever. We need to quit bashing each others industrys, and just plain get on with solving the problem.

Steve, I looked up the 25 series in a Land Pride catalog. With 2000+ psi and since you've allready been powering a log splitter I doubt you'll have any problem. I don't know how heavy your loader frame is, but acording to the picture this unit fastens to the side of the bucket. Personally not only for less strain on your loader frame, but more so for safety reasons I'd be lots more comfortable if the unit could somehow be fastened to the center of the bucket not to the end. I have no idea of the cost, and there are no doubt many other brands avaliable, but my experience with Land Pride has been nothing but good, so I guess they would be my first choice. Good luck.
