I'm not 100% sure it was a Deere brand Gator. It looked green and was far enough away that I knew it was a Gator type machine. So that's why I say it was a Gator "type" rig.
Yes, the air intake would be a bit too low on mine for tire topping water crossings.
There may be other brands that are more adapted to water crossings than a Gator.

Are oil fired things, (furnace/water heater) common in your part of the country? We lived in a couple houses with oil furnaces, but I never heard of an oil water heater. LP or natural gas is probably used in 90% of the homes around here with wood and electric taking up the rest. Our house in town still has the old flat side oil tank in the basement with no way to remove it unless it was cut up, so there it sits with a bit of fuel in the bottom yet.
Both of our houses have LP furnaces with one having an electric water heater and the other an LP water heater.
Thye electric heater has been replaced at about ten years with a leaking tank, the LP one is older than dirt and never needed any attention, yet.
I think every appliance including the LP furnace,(twice), except the fridge has been replaced in the ten to twelve year age, just out living the warrantys by a year or two. on the farm house built in 1997.

I have had several sickle bar mowers, one was an Allis Chalmers but I don't remember the model number.
Mowing hay is their real purpose. They will mow roadsides but it is pretty hard on the sickle and you will knock out sections on a regular basis so have some spare sections and rivets on hand. Woody brush, small rocks, and big woody stem weeds will keep you busy fixing the sickle.

I'd be careful if there is any aluminum in the system. Lots of things react with it, I'm not sure about bleach.

Don't know how hot it is mthere but a neighbor has an offical state weather station, he's registering 101.7 right now.

You say the tractor only has one battery, is it supposed to have two?
The starter must turn the engine fast enough to generate enough compression to cause the diesel fuel to ignite.
I hope that maybe you have the problerm solved by now. You don't give us enough detail to make much of a judgment.

Bush Hog and Land Pride are both good machines. I've never owned a Bush Hog but have had a Land Pride 72 inch for a long time. The only expense has been new blades a couple times..
I have no Idea what I would have paid for it, I bought it new probably 10 - 12 years ago.

Did youm bleed the air out of the system after you changed the filter?
I don't know how new/old your Massey is but some of the newer models self prime but most all older diesels need to be bled and primed after a filter change.
Do you have an owners manual? It will explain the process.

Mid mount mowers are expensive to buy new plua they are a pain to mount and dismount unless you buy the new drive over mount series. I maintain using a rear mount mower for the rougher stuff then buy a used rider for the fine finish mowing is a better answer. A good quality rider can be had for less than the mid mount is going to coast.
So far as size is concerned it all depends on what you plan to use the tractor for. I have a hard time thinking of a reason I would need bigger to maintain 50 acres. Most of my 50 acres is in row crops by a tenant. I clean up the waterways, terraces, and road ditches. The modern loaders on the "smaller" tractors with a front wheel assist will amaze you with their abiltys.

I've had a JD 4310 W/430 loader since new in 2000-2001, not sure. I've got 800+ hours with no problems, just regular maintenence.
Almost everything I use the tractor for involves the loader, it has never been off the tractor since new.
All three brands you have spoken of are good tractors, the quality of the dealership can make you like or dislike any brand.

A service manual will be your best guide, I have one but not with me where I am at today.
Is your starting system completely dead or can you wiggle for example the shift lever to make it work?
Unless you are sure which switch is out of adjustment there are several,a range shift lever on a hydro, plus the forward/reverse lever ona 12/12 power reverser shift system, the parking brake lock, and even the PTO control switch plus the seat switch if the parking brake is not set. All these have safety starter switches that have to be closed at the same time for the starter to work. A volt meter and a service manual will be your best friends to help seek out the culprit.

I've got just about the same number of acres and Deere 4310 12/12 Power Reverser, front wheel assist.
I don't do any tillage with it just mowing and loader work, the tillable land is rented to a neighbor.
So far I've really never wished for anything bigger (35 hp.). I have a 430 loader, a five ft. tiller, five ft. rotary mower, box blade, etc.
No matter which tractor you buy be sure you get a front wheel assist.

No, I don't own one but I've dreamed of having the other type that lifts a platform with the mower on it to a comfortabel level position work level.
The type you are showing would be good for cleaning under the deck but an oil change wouldn't work.
I can't think of the name of the catalog right now, the one everybody gets that is full of that type thing. Anyhow the platform lifts from ground level with a pneumatic powered sisors type lift up to whatever heigth you weant for a good working level.

When you say "Hydraulic" post hole auger I am assuming you meant hydraulicly driven instead of a PTO drive. The hydraulic drive is superior because you can reverse it to get free of a rock or a root. In my limited experience with post hole augers roots not rocks were the biggest challenge. You are going to need a pretty hefty machine to turn an auger that big, but I would prefer the augered holes to a backhoe trench. If possible I would have a backhoe around to get you by the rocks and roots that stop the auger.

One of those things that any of us can have happen, but now to the repair. I don't know anything about your particular brand of tractor so I'll speak only in general terms that would cover any brand.
Is this something you would feel comfortable doing yourself?
Do you have a tech manual for the model you have?
How about tools. There will likely be snap rings and all that which are all but hidden which may require a special tool to remove and replace them.
The tractor may have to be split to remove some of the parts, like a longer shaft etc. do you have a safe way to support the tractor while it is split?

I'm not trying to scare you away from doing the repair yourself but would hate to have you get into something that may overwhelm or get you hurt.

I'm taking you to mean a 1070 Case farm tractor, not a compact, about 100+ HP. If so I did own two of them when we farmed. They were good reliable tractors but they did have one of the problems you describe. They would often lose braking when other hydraulic things needs were being seved. I'm being of little help other than to say yours isn't the first 1070 with that issue, we never did resolve that problem, just learned to live with it.
I never had the other problems like lack of pressure when fully warmed up, for that I would suggest a complete change of filters and the proper fluid. The first thought allways is a worn pump, but i'd sure try a fluid and filter change first. The two transmission/hydraulic filter housings that hang side by side look identical but do take different filter elements, it's easy to get the elements mixed up. If it is still attached there should be a decal on each filter housing telling which filter goes in which housing, otherwise your owners manual will tell you. I'm pretty sure the elements will fit either housing but the difference is the micron rating of the elements, If I remember correctly one is a 25 and the othermis a 10. Not everyone will agree with me on this but I've always insuisted on using for example CaseIH HyTran fliod and CaseIH filters. Some universal fluids will interchange but most will not mainly because of the additives that are specific for the type of wet clutches for example that a tractor may use. The 1070's for example had dry brakes but most all other tractors have wet brakes, almost always brake chatter can be traced to the wrong fluid being used.

Welcome to the board, we need some new blood every now and then around here.
I don't know this for sure but my guess is that most short line mower builders like BMB all likely buy their spindle units from a bearing manufacturer and are likely identical. If you don't locate a BMB outlet I'd try checking with other shortline brands for a spindle assembly and my bet is you will find one that's identical. I've heard of BMB but don't know anything about them.

That's good that it worked last year and I hope you get things going again.
I was just using my experience as a reference.
I sold that Cub along with the belly mower and since bought a different Cub as a basket case then overhauled it to new status stem to stern. Now comes the part where I fall down, it needs a paint job, but I'm not a painter.
