I am looking at buying a Allis Chalmers 80R sickle Bar Mower for my 3-point hitch tractor. I know they are used to cut hay or grass, but don't know enough about them to know if they might cut light brush, like briars, grape vines or small limbs that grow out from the side of the road. I would be cutting with it up at the 90 degree angle. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Had a different one. Horiz or vert didn't make a diff. Any branch narrow enough to fit the opening would get cut -- if the blade was sharp and I drove in the lowest gear at high revs. ....

I have had several sickle bar mowers, one was an Allis Chalmers but I don't remember the model number.
Mowing hay is their real purpose. They will mow roadsides but it is pretty hard on the sickle and you will knock out sections on a regular basis so have some spare sections and rivets on hand. Woody brush, small rocks, and big woody stem weeds will keep you busy fixing the sickle.

OK, I bought the sickle bar mower and tried it out and it actually cut light brush and vines pretty good, but now I would like to purchase a new belt but I'm having trouble finding any parts numbers any ideas would really help. Thank You, Wade for an Old Allis Chalmers 80R ....

Belts are easily obtainable from most any source. You do not need a part number.
You will need to know the width ("A" "B" etc), length (in inches), and style (classic or notched) of the belt, but even these things are not truly important. Simply take the old belt with you to any parts house.
My only advice to you is to stay away from the cheaper, imported belts. Go with a quality belt made by Gates, or Goodyear (for example).
If you need help identifying a belt, the internet is packed full of free help. Surplus Center has pictures of belts, making it easy to help you identify a belt, which will allow you to use proper terminology when calling a parts house.

Thanks guys I took the old belt and tensioner pully to my local NAPA store and with a little searching we were able to match it up perfectly. I put it on and mowed for about two hours and then blew out a bearing on the bar, not sure what to call it yet but I do have pictures. Where can I get parts for these old mowers? ....

If anyone is ever trying to find parts for an old Allis Chalmers 80R Sickle Bar Mower definetly call Agco and if you need any belts oil,fluids pulleys try your Local NAPA store and if you need any good advice on how a tractor or specific implement works, you can learn that right hear from the people that know on TractorPoint.com. Thanks to all you've brought me through some hard to solve problems and I'm sure I'm not done here. ....

Bearings are like belts. Just find a supplier that stocks or can get them and bring in the bad one for matching. ....
