Plastic fuel tanks and grounding issues seem to go together like taters and gravy. I had several Case farm tractors with plastic tanks, the guages worked for a couple years, same with my 4310 Deere. I don't think it worked for even two years on the 4310. Rather than trying to find the problem the Case tractors and the 4310 Baby Deere, all had tanks that with either a stick or a flashlight you could check the level. Life seems simpler that way.

Sorry, we do get a bit too complacent here thinking everyone understands our slang abbreviations.

FEL - Front end Loader.
MMM - Mid mount mower, (Belly mower).
RMFM - Rear mounted finish mower.

There are others too I've forgotten right now, but those are probably the most common ones you'll see here on Tractor point.

I've not built a pond but watched a neighbor build one probably twenty years ago. I'm guessing the pond is probably 2 - 3 acres with an two 10 - 12 inch overflow pipes down about a foot below the top of the dam. I don't know if he has any screens on the intake side of the pipes.
The dam is part of the driveway to their house, kinda like the highway that goes across the top of the Hoover Dam.
I don't think he's had any erosion problems around the pipes or over the top.

Your world won't end with a loader and not having power steering.
BUT, it is nice, we had old Farmall's with loaders and no power steering for years. We got along OK so long as the tractor was moving it wasn't all that bad, sitting still with a full bucket took gorilla arm efort.
I've been spoiled with power steering and all of the creature comforts the tractors of today have, so I'd hate to go back.

Worthington had an oddball Case fram tractor part I needed that no one else hardly had heard of. I can't even remember what the part was now, that was quite a while back before I ever heard of the internet. I do remember they treated me good on the price and shipping too.

Mr Jon Dwyer states that unlike corn and soybeans the part of the flax seed left over after the oil is extracted can be used as animal feed.
Ok, where has this guy been? Does he not understand that we use all the products left over after the oil is extracted from corn and soybeans? The basis for a lot the protiens added to livestock feed has came from soymeal after the oil has been extracted since before I can remember. None of the corn byproduct after the oil is extracted is thrown away.

There can be problems that a fuel additive won't fix, but along the line of what Joel said I've used Power Service the white jug stuff ever since I've had diesel engines. While we farmed I used to buy it by the case and use it year around according to the label directions. I still use it in my 4310, but don't need to buy a case at a time anymore. I'm sure there are other brands just as good or possibly even better than Power Service, but in all the time we farmed I never had to have an injection pump worked on and can only remember one injector that something went wrong with. I can't say with any authority that the Power Service kept all the diesel demons away, but used to hear of other farmers having injector pumps overhauled, injectors replaced quite often etc. It made a believer out of me.

I am doing a bit of guerssing here so I may be on the wrong trail.
My guess is you have a front wheel assist tractor with planetary hubs that the front wheels bolt to. If I'm guessing correctly the hub is leaking where the shaft from the "U" joint goes into inside of the hub. Those hubs are pretty universal and likely manufactured by the same company for several tractor brands.
I've had that type hub leak on bigger John Deere tractors, but didn't repair it myself, I've saw tham apart but wouldn't tackle it without a tech manual, I think there are some shims that have to be in the right place when it goes back together.
I don't know what lubracant NH recommends but I'm thinking it would be the same as your transmission fluid.
I don't think corn head grease whould be good, it has to warm up quite a bit before it becomes fluid.
We gave a mechanic in the neighborhood who has used corn head grease in common tapered bearing wheel wagon hubs for years, says that's the only way to go for them.

A lot of what you said does fit me.
At the urging of our oldest son who is a science fiction writer, along with his real job I wrote an autobiography. It covered from my first memories till High School graduation. I did get it done and printed one for each of the kids and one to keep. This took me from about November first till a few days before Christmas for six complete copies.
I never had to walk to school, the year I started 1947 the country schools closed and we went to town school. The busses we had for the first couple years were just old cars with a hand painted board tied to the front and back bumpers that read "School Bus".
Yes, we milked and did chores before and after school, every boy carried a pocket knife to school. After I had a car (49 Hudson) in high school most of us boys had a shotgun on the back seat to go hunting after school, parked on the school parking lot. I remember one of our teachers who was a hunter brought his guns to school one day to compare with ours.
We were a tiny school compared to anything today, twelve total in my graduating class. All seven of us boys in my class were farm kids, so at noon on good work days in the spring and fall we went home to help, if your school work was done. No written excuse slips from Mom were needed, the superintendent knew all of our parents on a first name basis, so he knew if you really went home or were goofing off. I can't remember any of us who abused that privledge.
Five of the seven farm boys went on to farm, one worked for a farm Co-op and one kid ended up being a high school superentendent. The five of us who farmed, one died young of cancer and the rest if us have retired.
Everyone no matter when they lived likey thinks they lived during the greatest part of history, so do I. During my earliest memories of no electricity, no telephone, no indoor plumbing to the world we live in today. I'm sure things will progress even faster as we go along but I wouldn't trade my growing up years for any other time period.

When my legs first went bad the Doctor recomended me getting a golf cart to get around the farm. Having never been exposed to golf carts, I called a friend who knew had just bought a new one. His comment was forget it get a Gator. We looked at the turf model but glad we got the regular Gator as we found ourselves hauling all it would hold. I'm sure you would do the same, the turf models are meant for light duty only.

I've got a Deere hoe on my Deere compact and have thought it best to keep things brand matched. Deere hoe/Deere tractor, Kubota hoe/Kubota tractor.
I'm sure Kubota uses a subframe mounting system similar to a Deere mounting system. Things are built to work their best together with like brand hydraulics, mounting systems that are engeneered by the factory to fit correcrtly.
Woods does build good stuff but I just lie to brand match.

I remember seeing a scuff here and there undr a link but never had a deep gouge. I have heard of it being a problem tho, but don't know all the circumstances.

I've never had tire chains on a CUT, I "Get By" with R-4's on the ice and snow, if I get caught I use the bucket to push myself out. I've thought about getting a set of the truck style bar chains for it but just never had enough trouble getting around to make it worth while.
If you could call it an advantage for not having chains maybe my ice clearing method would be one of them. I wouldn't recommend this on a nice concrete or asphalt drive. On our gravel drive I use the teeth of the box scraper to tear the ice loose on the drive. I drive fairly slow so when a tooth catches on something it just stops the tractor with wheel spin.
I used to have chains on my winter chore tractor to get feed wagons, a grinder mixer, manure spreader, etc., around in the snow and mud. they were the heavy "X" type bars with the big rings. They did the job but sure rode rough.

One word of caution tho,"Never any heavy Work". No matter what brand you buy that rule will be history within the first week.

Mowing around a pond can be risky. Gentle slopes are OK, but you need no distractions.
A case in point, a friend put his 400 series Deere in the drink, him along with it. The slope was somewhat safe, he turned to look at something and splash. It was probably three ft. deep where he went in, the guy next door helped the man out of the water but the mower was another matter. His son pulled it out with a 4 wheel dr. pickup, but it was in the water for a half day. He took it to the Deere dealer for a drain out, dry out, and I think some electrical parts. The mower works OK again but he leaves a strip along the pond that is devoted to whatever nature wants to grow there.

The IHC # 80 eight ft. blower I used to have used stainless steel roller chain. It never got rusty and kinky. Fertilizer applicator supply places keep stainless chain, it's not cheap, but it doesn't rust.

The war as it drags on and on over there it gets closer and closer to home. So many of our young are dying or maimed for life. The first one of our immediate family heads to Afganistan in April, a step grandson in the Marines.

"Boston Baked Beans" seems to be a sort of generic title for a zillion different combinations of baked beans.
I got a similar recipe off the cooking segment of RFD-TV called "Cowboy Beans", almost identical except for no mustard, but a can of tomato paste. We didn't have any tomato paste on hand so I made them without it and they were very good. The Mrs. said she would "ALLOW" me to make them again, that's about as good as the Betty Crocker seal of approval around here.

Yes and no. Yes, the one oil fits all will work but if internal wet brakes and a power shift type transmission are part of the tractor you may get brake chatter or rough shifting.
No, it probably doesn't mater if your tractor has dry brakes and uses a conventional sliding gear transmission.
Factory branded oils are generally higher priced than will fit brands but do have the additive package specific for that brand and will perform better.
There are some good aftermarket filters available but I can only think of a couple brands I'd use other than factory. The good aftermarket filters may cost even more than factory, but I'd avoid anything sold at Wal Mart.
