Joel, glad you're back.
My memory may be slipping but I'm pretty sure the IHC hydrto farm tractors had only one range.

Have I been to your state? Yes, but briefly. We had driven to Florida once, didn't care for that too much, too hot, snakes, alagators and all that. And yes I'm aware that Florida has all the high rise hotels with every thing known to man that man don't need anyway where the snakes and alagators cant get in but high rise livin just aint for me. This was when Jimmy Carter was President and brother Billy had the gas station in Plains, Ga. We stopped by Billy's, got a couple six packs of Billy Beer then came over your way on our way home. We didn't go to the coast where the old folks probably cluster tho just thru the more rural country. Too long ago to remember much about it now. Our youngest son and his Mrs. go to Kill Devil hills in one of the Carolinas every year for a two week vacation, they must like it they keep going back.

I know very little about a Kioti, but I assume it is a diesel engine. All diesels operate on the same principle. You need a fuel injector to put a correct amount fuel into the combustiom chamber at the proper time and enough compression to develop the heat to set it on fire. If you lack either of those things it wont go.
Is there sa fuel shutoff you forgot to turn on?
Does the starter crank it as fast as it normally did?
If there is any smoke from the exhaust, what color is it?

I've seen older Gators that still look like new and I also have saw one that were rusted up pretty bad. I don't remember seeing one that had rusted to the point of collapse.
I often wondered if the real rusty ones were driven in the winter where salt was used and just never got washed out from under, I don't know.
From your description it seems that the former owner kinda went for an amature type rebuild where way too much iron was welded on that wasn't doing much good other than making the whole thing too heavy to haul it's self around.
If you are familliar with "Torsion Box" type frames. We used lots of them in the furniture business to support a heavy load without adding lots of un needed weight.
If you aren't familliar with a torsion box they are just a web type internal frame wood for our use or steel for your need skinned on both sides with a sheet of plywood for our needs or in your case 18 or 20 guage steel. A torsion box no more than three inches thick can support an imense amount of weight, far more than your Gator will ever require.
I guess my point is that you don't need all the weight of 1/4 in. plate, just a well designed torsion box that would weigh less, look nice, and support more.

As Murf pointed out this plus probabaly the color of the paint on your lawnmower could be constrewed by some ambulance chasing lawyer to be a court case.
I've got two identical Deere 345 lawn mowers one is a 99 the other a 2000, one has the silly dodad that stops the deck anytime the reverse pedal is pushed, the other doesn't. I didn't modify anything, that's the way it came from Mr. Deere. Betcha can't guess which mower is my favorite.
I doubt this is any kind of record but both mowers still have the original battery, neither show any sign of going dead "YET".

One thing I forgot to add about the XUV gasoline engines is an oil/gasoline dillution issiue that some had problems with, some didn't. So far we haven't had the problem. I know the head shop foreman at the dealership we use quite well, so I ask him about it. I have no idea how many Gators they sell but I know it is a bunch. He tells me that out of all the XUV gasoline Gators they have sold that one did have this problem. This man had calf pens along a fenceline where he hauled feed to every morning, at every pen he shut the engine off while he fed the calves never alowing it to get up to full operating temperature. They solved the problem by having him just let it run till you're done for the morning so the engine can fully warm up, that solved it for him. His discussions with other dealer shop foremen who had more of a problem were normally non farm people who used the Gator to go the mailbox and back very day never warming the engine up. He also learned from the other foremen that most all of them with the dillution problem were not using the recommedned engine oil.

I've saw a Deere driveover on a compact but never witnessed one going on and off.
Just looking at it I think you raise the guage wheels on the deck first to keep the weight off them, then the deck looks to get tight to the ground. There are some little steel ramps on the deck where your tractor fronts go over.
Looked like the PTO self connects and the lift system self connects with a locking lever you use to keep it in place.
Looked pretty slick but I din't ask the price, someone said they thought around 5,000.00 for the mower and all the attachments to make it work.

No you won't blow the baler up. It will have slip clutches and or shear pins to protect it from overloads. The mower you mention I'm not familliar with but if the minimum horsepower is 90 it must be maybe a nine foot mower/conditioner. I wouldn't think you would have to go to the top of the horsepower range, just drop down a gear if it is heavy hay.
Hills and level land will have a bearing on how big a tractor you'll need. Our baler tracrtor was a farmall 656 row crop about 65 hp. pulling an IHC # 47 square baler. It handled the baler and a loaded wagon behind the baler easily on moderate hills.

3300 lbs. isn't very heavy when it comes to tractors pulling plows, harrows, discs, planters, etc. I'd suggest the 1070 as being the minimum. A 970 pulling a 2-14 plow in heavy clay might be a bit too much for it, any extra horsepower will never hurt.
There just isn't a farm situation that a four wheel drive can't make better, especially when you put a front end loader on the tractor, that's a day and night difference.
I think the front axle on a 4 wh. dr. has a non adjustable tread width at about 60 inches and the rear tread cn be adjusted to the same tread width which will work fine for planting, cultivating or any work in standard 30 inch row widths.

Koyker has been around a long time, I'm surprised that some bigger fish hasn't swallowed them up by now.
Quite a while back I had a Super M Farmall, about 50 hp., with Koyker loader. I remember it being a tough loader but I don't think it had two way cylinders on the boom lift.

Your question about the tractor mounted shield. Yes and No.
The little probably ten inch or so long shield fastened to the rear of the tractor just above the PTO shaft is important and should be in place.
That is just the begining of the sheilding. The actual telescoping shaft that goes from the PTO shaft of the tractor back to whatever implement you are powering with it must not be a bare shaft. There should be a telescoping shield that the actual power shaft goes inside of that is free to stop rotating while the actual powershaft inside it is running. This is your protection from you clothes being caught by a shaft that will not stop, a properly maintained outer shield will stop if you contact it.
The machine you hook the powershaft to should also have a shield similar to the one fastened to the back of your tractor.

Since the "Gator" blades seem to hsve no use far as cutting grass is concerned, I put them on for walnut smackin and leaf disposal. Just blow them into a swath like you're going to have a big round baler come in then go down the swath with the deck up otherwise the leaves pile up in front of the deck. Next blow them back into a swath again etc, and the turn to dust. Make sure the neighbor lady/man don't have her/his laundry on the clothesline tho. This isn't the answer for several acres, just a normal size front or back lawn.
We've got two John Deere lawn sweepers, a new one and a "Classic" one, the only time they work is if you get there just as the leaf hits the ground otherwise the are the biggest joke since the Edsel.

Do you mean a 4960 JD farm tractor? I used to have a 4850, pretty similar to the 4960, but I don't remember the 4850's having any fault codes. Don't renmember having any 3 pt. problems. I'd start with the basics of making sure the fluid level is up. If full do the other hydraulic functions work? Not sure I rtemember how the liknage is connected fromthe control lever to the 3 pt. valve but possibly something broke or came unhooked there. These midels had a habit of cutting a Woodruff key in the gear that powered the charge pump for the main hydraulic pump up front, but if that happens everything stops.

A 12/12 reveser has a traction clutch for both forward and reverse depending on which way you dash mounted lever is positioned. There is a sepearate electric controled hydraulic valve for each direction to push pressure to the clutch you need for either direction and relax the pressure for the other direction. Being you have a similar erratic speed whether loaded or empty would make me think that something is keeping the forward valve from letting enough pressure, 1200 lb. I think, to the clutch rather than a clutch problem with normal pressure would say perhaps a broken clutch plate.
First thing I'd check is the electrical connectiions under the tractor that hook to the valves that may be giving you not quite enough voltage to hold the forward valve completely open.
My service manual goes on into having a clooged hyd filter that can be the problem too, but being reverse works, I'd doubt the filter being the problem.

Now you have me confused again. I thought your clutch concern was for a common dry plate engine clutch, yes, I agree constant "Rideing" and slipping a regular clutch eats them up in a hurry.
Ok, now your warning about the PTO clutch, why? They are hydraulicly engaged, self adjusting, I can't quite follow your concern. I've overloaded the 4310 lots of times on a rotary cutter or overfed grain augers a hundred times more than he will ever overload it on a snow blower and the PTO still works just fine. Humm?

I don't have a 955 but most of those safety lockouts if there is one on your hydro pedals work about the same.
Do the pedals return to neutral on their own when you release them while operating? If they hang up a bit the mower would probably keep moving a bit without your foot on either one. Being it does find you a place that the starter will work tells me there isn't an electrical problem. Whatever kind of switch is under thwere may be just out of adjustment or sticky.
With the engine off and the park brake on have someone else or if you can push the pedals by hand yourself watch what happens under there when you think the pedals are at the "Sweet Spot".

Use what your owners manual calls for.
There are dozens of "Will fit" oils and filters around for less than the factory brand. Problem is not all the "Will fits" have the additive package specific to whatever type wet clutches, wet brakes, water absorption capabilitys, winter flow spces. etc.
The factory oils and filters are high dollar but repairs are higher dollar.
