Not to muddy the waters too much here, but unless you want to build this blade just for the satisfaction of having built it I'd take another route. My number one first choice for snow removal is a rear mount blower in combination with a FEL. You are going to need some weight on the rear of your tractor for safety reasons, a common three point blade don't add much weight, so my second choice if not the blower would be a three point box blade with scarifier teeth. They add a lot of rear weight and are one of the most usefull tools you will ever own summer or winter. Frank.

I have no idea how much horsepower your tractor has, but my experience with add on belly mowers on low horsepower tractors, (less than 20 hp.) hasn't been good. A lot of power is consumed just in the drive system itself, pulleys, belts, gearboxes, etc., each consume a bit of power along the way to from the PTO to the blades. Is the PTO of your tractor independent from the transmission clutch or is it transmission driven? Transmission driven PTO's and a belly mowers don't work to well together. No doubt a mower can be retrofitted to work with some purchased or home made brackets, but tell us more about the situation first, we'll try to help. Frank.

Ronald; The newest 4010 is well over 40 years old. given the age and condition you describe of the wiring harness the only real solution is to strip all the old stuff out and start over, switches, battery cables, ground cables, relays, etc, etc.. This will be pricey from Deere, but they would likely print out a schematic for you. I think??? the later 4020's went to an alternator and all twelve volt syatem replacing the 12/24 system on the 4010's and early 4020's, so be sure to have a serial number to take along. Frank.

Our siding is white without the woodgrain in it so it washes off pretty easy. The Mrs. and I repainted our summer home,(redwood siding) this summer. I had all kinds of advice as to powerwashing it, not to powerwash, use TSP, don't use TSP. Ended up I didn't poewrwash it or use TSP for the reasons that YOPER stated about any aluminum or glass splatters of the TSP, I had bought some but returned it unopened. We simply scraped the old paint, applied primer and the final coat all with a brush and roller. The house wasn't real dirty and what little there was just covered up with the new paint. Frank.

EW; Yes, it will remove the broken threads. Usually I start with a right hand bit to make the first hole in a broken off bolt and try as best I can to get it centered, a regular centering bit works best for that. Then work your way up in size with left hand bits and I've yet to have one fail to bring the shell of the bolt out with the bit. Till I had a machinist friend of mine tell me about using left hand bits I had tried every kind of "Easy Out" known to man, all were a joke especially when one snapps off level with the surface. When we had our farm auction in August of 04 it started at 9:30 with two auctioneers selling on seperate hayracks of small stuff then small stuff, spare parts, tools, on pallets, etc. till two in the afternoon then as it was stated on the salebills they stopped all the small stuff and sold the main line of machenery, then back and finished up on the nickle dime stuff. The people wanting to buy big tractors, combines, etc. don't want to wait around for the junk to sell. The auctioneers must have known what they were talking about as the sale brought much more than we ever dreamed of, even the junk. Frank.

The XUV has four wheel independent suspension. Only thing I don't like is the box is a few inches higher to lift things into than the conventional series. Guess it could be done to convert one to independent, but likely would cost as much as to just trade for one. Frank.

I've just gotta come to the defense of the three point blower FEL combo. I had a Case 1070 tractor (100+HP)/ Westendorf WL42 loader/ IHC #80 8 ft. three point blower. I often had neighbors blown out to get to work on a mile or more of gravel road long before the county got to it. As long as you are in familliar surroundings, some good mirrors and good rear lights you guys have the twisted neck thing blown way out of proportion. The most used attachment that anyone with a compact tractor can own is the FEL, so why be mounting and dismounting it when it isn't nescessary, leave it on and use a rear blower. Not to mention the added cost of a front mount machine over a three point. Someone mentioned using a box blade as rear ballast, I couldn't agree more plus it is a very usefull tool. Frank.

Jerome; One of our old neighbors had a 135 diesel with a lot of hours, I don't remember how many, but he started it everyday year round to feed cattle. When they would go on a winter holiday I used to do his chores and I always marvled at how well that little tractor would start no matter how cold it was, he always kept it plugged in during the winter, but I don't remember using any starting fluid. It is always kind of interesting going to the state fair and seeing everything from magic dodads for your carburetor all the way to the amazing butcher knife that would slice clean thru a brick and still slice fresh baked bread. Both with a lifetime warranty of course. I wonder if Billy Mays and the Sham Wow guy got started doing the fairs? Frank.

Lots of good advice here but I'll add my two cents worth along with it. Visit local dealerships that handle the big three in the compact world, Deere, Kubota, or Ford/New Holland. Don't get hung up on a particular brand, all three will have trade ins that will have been thru their shop and the later models may come with some short term warranty. If our economy is really as bad as the gloom and doomers tell us it is a good local dealer is going to be more than glad to have you as a happy customer. Frank.

Depends on your comfort level on working with hydraulic things. You aren't giving quite enough specifics on the problem to help you out. If you aren't fimilliar at all with it then a hydraulic repair shop is for you, If you have had some experience with cylinders they really aren't that difficult, messy yes. Enjoy your day. Frank.
