I'm not real big on buying anything foreign made, but of all the non domestic brands Kubota has the best reputation for quality and a real good dealer network to service you down the road. Frank.

LWayne; I do understand where you're coming from on the danger to property from the chute pointing at breakable things. For years before we retired from the farm I had a 100 HP tractor with an eight foot blower on the back and a Westendorf loader with an eight foot snow bucket on the front, absolute cat's meow, but be real carefull which way the chute is pointed. Right now I have a FEL and a box blade on the back of the Baby Deere, (4310). I was so spoiled by the blower on the farm tractor that I was determined to get a five foot blower for the little Deere. BUT, at 3,500. bucks, I decided to hire the neighbor with his big blower for a hundred bucks a winter, I may have to give him a bonus for this winter, he was there somtimes twice a week. Frank.

John, Ok, that is a good sign meaning that they aren't part way up and the hydraulics arent lifting them. I really think you just have a problem of rusted joints, no weitht on the arms and cold oil all teamed up together keeping them from lowering. Frank.

Bob; We need Murf to jump in on this one. To me it sounds like you have did everything right so far, and the nursreyman is correct meaning that tiny grass seeds only need a bit of cover. If you have access to a cultipacker they do wonders to help new seedings. Frank.

No salt problem here at least on the gravel roads. I used to get lots of free dirt form the county when they cleaned ditches. It did have some beer cans and a bit of crushed rock that the snowplows pushed in the ditch mixed in, but aside from that it was good topsiol that had washed into the ditches during a high water epesode. No free dirt anymore here, now they haul it to the county landfill and cover the layers of garbage with it, a zillion tons of good Iowa topsiol gone forever. Frank.

Art-Murf; The name Kubota big as you please across the back right above four tiny suitcase weights. Steered with the rear axle like a combine. Could it be a front mount mower with an aftermarket blower mounted in place of the mower deck? This was mid morning, I never take a scotch and water till before supper. Frank.

Thanks again for all the advice, I'll check out the little Hobart too. My first task is going to be to get them each a nice self darkening helmet. I've never had one of those myself, so any hints on good ones? Frank.

Mike, congradulations on you new equipment, you will get the hang of things pretty quick. I've used LandPride equipment for years and have always been pleased with the quality of work they do and their durability. Last spring I almost bought a revers rotaion tiller but ended up with a regular front rotation Land Pride. They sat side by side on the dealer lot, I would have like to have bought both of them, but I haven't won the Powerball yet. Keep us informed on how you like the reverse rotation tiller. Frank.

Yes Dennis I do know something about soybeans, they are round and they are yellow. When it comes to soybean or any other commodity futures trading, ANYBODY, including me that tells you they have it figured out how to cash in with futures contracts is either an idiot or just flat out lying. Money can be and is made trading futures, but for every dollar made a dollar is lost plus commission. Better stock up on double strength Maylox before you dive in. Frank.

Buzz; On your 1466 you move the inside shifter lever from L thru neutral to R, the furthest back position, correct? If this tractor has been used a lot on a loader the shufter likage finally just wears out. I'd bet a box of donuts that nothing is wrong inside the transmision. Take the worn looking parts along to a Case/IH dealer, he probably has everything you need in stock, or can have it ana day or two. Frank.

I think it is kind of a moss or fungus, kind of a green slimy goo, but that rarely happens unless you let fuel sit for a real long time before you used it. I'm not sure if the suppliers add anything to inhibit the stuff, but you can buy an additive to keep it down, I don't rembember what the additive is called, but someone here will. Frank.

Pillage; I wasn't sure when I first responded to your post, but Art has cleared up the point of a subframe hoe not being produced for your tractor. If you have the time to look around it might be worth your time to visit a dealer who has a later model tractor with a subframe hoe mounted on it for display. I have not watched a Kubota subframe hoe being mounted or dismounted from the tractor, but I have put my Deere hoe on and off dozens of times. Both Kubota and Deere use in principle the same basic design for attaching the hoe unit to the subframe. Once the subframe is on the tractor, it is a less than ten minute job without any heavy lifting to mount or dismount the hoe. Frank.

Hetric; Always glad to visit with a fellow woodworker, or anyone else for that matter. Yes we have ninety percent of the new shop up and running and did keep all the big three phase equipment by instaling a ten hp. rotary phase converter to power the machines of 8 hp. or less and use a 45kw PTO generator to power the machines with 10+ hp motors. There is no three phase service where we live now. I know that sounds like a pain in the butt type deal to start a tractor to operate a machine, and it kinda is, but I only use the big machines maybe once a week or less and run a "Batch' so to speak thru when I have them up and running. I don't have the maxhine shop side of the building wired up yet and don't have the freight elevator completed yet, it seems I've spent most of the winter plowing snow, the most snow we have had in years here. Since I'm not in a "Production Mode" anymore I've somewhat lost touch with how the housing and remodeling market is going here, but all the contractors I know locally are working straight thru the winter and have plenty lined up for spring. We were always fortunate to never have ran out of work in 30+ years in business. We weren't into "carpentry" so to speak, but did probably 80% custom one off type furniture production and the reat of the time did produce kitchen cabinets on a custom order basis only. I won't be the richest man in the Cemetary because of running a furniture business, but wouldn't trade all the good friends I made both as employees and customers and the good work times I had for all the Cadillac's you could park on fourty acres. I'm on about my third or fourth 4.5 inch and also have a 7 inch. The first two or three small onmes were Mennards type brand that selfdestructed pretty quick. I'd have to go look but I think both the small and big ones I have now are Millwauke. I only use the big one for the real big stuff, as someone else said it takes a pretty good man, or lady to wrestle it aroiund. Frank.

I've forgotten the size of the first floor windows we replaced, but they were a standard size, so no special order size was needed. We priced them at Lowes and Menards, they were about 180.00 each carryout, but weren't of a quality that the local utility company classifys as "Energy Star" which would qualify for a 25 dollar per window rebate. We had the local lumber yard order them from "Hayfield Window" from, Hayfield Minnesota. They were about 300.00 each installed and qualified for the "Energy Star" rebate. We had 15 windows and two doors replaced. I was so amazed at how absolute each window fit the old opening. The rep measured every window before he ordered them, and every one reminded me of the sound of puting the lid on a foam cooler, they fit that good. So I think I've answered my own question, I'll call the same lumberyard and order the replacments from him. Thanks for all the info. Frank.

I realy don't think they had glow plugs but it li9kely has a manifold heater, check the owners manual for sure. If it has a manifold heater DO NO USE ETHIER. Frank

EW; Now there is a reason for us old timers to kinda ride herd on you younins, so "Splain yerself", (that is Iowegan), a bit here. Freezing is +32 F, so minus 27 means it was five above, that would be like a day at the beach here. Now maybe you new math people are using Celcus or the Kelvin scale??? I know I spelled Celcus wrong, but wahada ya spect from an old guy?
