My 4310 is a 12/12 reverser transmission. The gear transmission must be in neutral and the bracke locked when you get of the seat or the engine stops. It's been a while since I've driven a Deere hydro so refresh me. As I read the posts you can get off the tractor with the engine running, range lever(ABC) still in gear and the brake not locked? If you shut the engine off while the tractor is on a slope does the lack of having the hydro act as sort of a parking brake allow the tractor to coast away if the brake isn't set? Just seems to me that a safety interlock wouldn't let you off the seat with the engine running and the gear transmission still in gear. Just curious. Frank.

Here in Iowa two row planters are nonexistent and four rows that are any good are hard to come by. The general rule anymore is the flatter the land the wider the planters with 12 and 16 row the most common and a few 24 and a rare 36 row now and then. For example in the hilly dairy part of north east Iowa quite a few 4 and a lot of 6 row planters are used in the smaller odd shaped fields. I 'm just trying to give you a bit of a lead where you most likely would find a smaller planters. I know nothing about planting peanuts, but likely the air planters have a drum for a Case-IH or a seed disc for a Deere or Kinze that is meant to use for peanuts, a dealer could tell you for sure. I don't know if plastic fuel tanks are more prone to guage problems or not but I had several Case farm tractors with plastic tanks and the guages rarely worked, usually it was a grounding problem with the sender. The guage on my 4310 has always worked but it's kind of a somewhere in the neighborhood indication of the fuel level. Frank.

EW; I'v got a Sthil, (don't remember the model no.) that I've had for a while. Your comment on starting it is identicial to mine, do the same routine hot or cold, about the third pull she purrs. Only other saw I've owned was a McCullugh, or how ever you spell it. I'd probably still be using it but I loaned it to a "Friend", you know the rest of the story, so now I have the Sthil. Good local dealer keeps it tuned up for me, that's important too. Frank.

If you have found a botton about 5/8 inch diamater with kind of a rounded top that sticks out about 3/4 of an inch on the side of the pto sleeve then that is the release botton. give it a good dose of WD 40 and if the botton won't push with your thumb then get a hammer and just tap it lightly, it should move unless it is terribly rusted. the button has to be pushed down level with the top of the hole it's in and held there while you slide the coupler off the pto shaft. Just a thought; Maybe if you got the word out there may be some one who would want to trade thair turfs and rims for your R4's. I know turf's are rarely seen around here anymore, a dealer told me a couple years ago that he will not order a tractor with turfs unless it is sold, the last one he had sat for two years before someone would buy it. I demoed a new Deere with turfs when the 4300's were just out, it had turfs, if the grass was wet you were stuck. Best of luck. Frank.

Chief; As you suggested I did pull the battery out yesterday, and reall other than a bit of paint gone off the steel the battery sits on I did'nt find much wrong. I pulled the screen from in front of the radiator, blew some air thru it and the radiator itself and did'nt see any thing wrong. I have no idea whether my dad's old rule on batterys has had anything to do with it or not, but he allways everytime he changed oil in anything put a squirt of motor oil on the battery posts, so I still do that just as if he was still watching over my shoulder. Kind of a mess at times, but never any corrosion on anythiong. Been doing that since the 49 Hudson, so probably will keep doing it. Frank.

JJ; Dealers usually offer some warranty on tractors with hours that low, so if your buying it "As is-where is" you should pay a bit less than a dealer would charge. If you buy it, enjoy your tractor. Frank.

Bewing; The tube coming from the valve cover is to relieve crankcase pressure. It should be checked periodicly to be sure it is open, engines have been ruined because of a cloged blowby tube. When it is completly plugged the pressure from blowby has to go somewhere so usually it pushes oil past the main bearing seals, valve cover gaskets, etc. A little blowby is normal even a new engine has a little. EW; I really don't know anything about your specific engine, but most all diesels are pretty much the same. It doesn't seem that with 400 hr. that an injector would go bad. In all the diesels I owned over the years I can'nt recall ever replacing an injector. I'm wondering if maybe a cracked alternator bracket, engine mount, etc. might set up a vibration in harmony with the engine RPM, I know those things are hard to pinpoint at times what with things being pretty well packed into an engine compartment. We live on a well traveled county pavement,last summer the count was 2500 per day,we used to have two or three a month with no spare flats, etc. but since everyone from ten years old up has a cell phone we havent had a stranger on our step for a couple years. I did used to keep the 20 guage behind the curtain, but never had anyone give me the urge to reach for it so it's back in the closet. I'm not a political radical of any kind but once in a while one stops by, sometimes I'll take the opposite of their view just for the sake of a good friendly argumwent. Frank.

I got soured on using fluid in farm tractor tires a long time ago. Washer fluid may not be corrosive and all but still a big mess when you have a flat. I've got a home made weight bracket for the three point that uses conventional front end weights but is well above the drawbar and PTO so it dosen't interfere. In the winter I leave the box blade on not only for weight but sometimes it just works better to push some snow with it in reverse. Have a big day. Frank.

Something I thought of after I posted yesterday. For some reason the same size tires in different brands are hardly ever identical in dimension, so it likely would work out better to use the same brand on both the front and rears. Frank.

I made up a hose contraption to suck some RV antifreeze from the jug into the pump. mine is a gasoline engine drive so I just pull it over a few times with the switch off till the pink stuff comes out the wand. Frank.

KT; During the fall I do take the Mrs. to every church dinner on the map where most of the pies are still home made, not to mention all the other tasty stuff on the menu. It's getting nearly impossible to find a resturant around here anymore that serves anything but those horrible factory made pies. The Mrs. still makes quite a pie especially if company is coming, so I invite folks often. She also has taught our oldest son pie making, he makes a real blueberry pie with real berrys not the blue glop in a can stuff. Wowzer am I over fed. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Your short and three longs coresponds to Fault code # 10 in the tech manual. To the best of my understanding it indicates either a short curcit or no complet circut to the coils that control the transmission flow supply valves. Perhaps another member of the board more fimilliar with circut testing can take you further toward finding your problem. Best of luck. Frank.

i've learned the hard way a couple times in the past to never assume something is covered on your policy. I now check with the agent when the premium comes due if there are any changes in coverage. For example this summer a tennant in one of our houses put a trampoline in the front yard, our insurance agent happened to see it, he called me and gave me a few days to have the tennant remove it or he would report it to their main office and all of our insurance would be cancelled. I checked with another agent on the trampoline thing, their policy is the same, a trampoline cancelles you immediately. Frank.

This is a great time of the year, the leaves are at about peak color this weekend here and for a couple months in the fall you can have your pick of church dinners and the all you can stand to eat firehouse pancake feeds usually on Sunday mornings, there are two or three to pick from here today. then the endless fish suppers at local beer joints kick in in a month or so, no wonder I'm a bit overweight. happy eating, Frank.

monte; That deal sounds a bit scary to me. The paint, hoses and belts are easy fixes, I'd be suspicious of a cover up job on a bad tractor. Two wheel drive with a FEL will leave you real dissapointed. You don't have to go new but I think spending a bit more at a dealer for a used 4X4 with a bit of machine history or possibly some warranty in a popular brand, Green, Orange, or Blue would be a better choice.
