A friend of mine burns a mixture you describe in kind of a crude oil burning shop heater. It solves his disposal problem and saves him a bit on the heat bill. I don't think it is worth the risk of messing up an injector pump or the injectors, they just cost too much to take the chance. Best of luck. Frank.

DeTwang; Kerosene and Diesel fuel are not the same. heaters designed for kerosesne just don't work with diesel, been there done that. Seversl convenience stores around here have a kerosene pump on a 500 gallon skid tank for small quanitys, check around I'll bet you find one. Best of luck. Frank.

I've had a two or three buckets rebuilt at a weld shop in the past. Unless yours is really in bad shape they can normaly be rebuilt and beefed up for a lot less than a new bucket. I learned the hard way too, never buy the Deere standard weight bucket, usually for about a hundred dollars more the heavy duty version can be had and they are a lot stronger. Have a great day. I have to agree with Earthworks a regular rear blade just isn't heavy enough to dig much of anything, and even a box scraper without scarifiers won't do a lot. I had a hydraulic adjust rear blade that looked like the real scnazoo, but in reality it just did'nt have enough weight to make it cut in. I finally sold it. Best of luck. Frank.

Carl; check the Lincoln Electric website. I ordered some manuals form them a few years ago. The ones I got were a bit of overkill for my needs but as I remember they weren't very expensive, nice hardcover books. Frank.

We did check out a couple "Rice Burners", Honda and Subaru over the weekend. Neither offer any big deal warranty above the domestics, but they both seem to have a pretty good rating far as reliability. One brother in law is on his second Subaru, says he would'nt own anything else. he did have a somewhat major engine problem after warranty, but it was fixed at no charge without any hassle. I'm kind of a simple guy, don't really need 90% of the electronic dodads that car makers seem to think I need, so if they started building 61 Ford Falcons again I'd be the first in line to buy one, simple as a hammer and that's about all you needed to fix one. I'll have to ask our insurance man about a discount on rented propane tanks. A lightning rod salesman stoped by a few years ago telling how I could get a cheaper insurance rate on my house and buildings after he put the rods up. I called the insurance carrier, they said it made no difference the rate was the same with or without. Frank.

It depends on how heavy duty you want to go on a machine. Our first Gator 4X2, except for being totaly helpless in the lesat amount of mud and kind of a weak box hoist that we broke a time or two dumpinmg rocks it was a pretty rugged machine. I traded a couple years ago for an HPX 4X4. It has a much improved box hoist, a bit faster road speed, and a low range in 4 wheel drive that will pull quite a load. It is kind of a cold blooded critter, so I probably would give the Diesel a good look. I looked at the Kubota at the Farm progress show last week, they look like a good machine, the mule, I haven't really given a good look, but haven't heard anything bad about them. I think any of the three will do a good job for you. I bought the Deere machines simply because of my past good experience with the dealer. To me your past experience or the reputation of the dealer would be the biggest deciding factor on the choice of brand. Any brand machine will break down sooner or later, that's when a good dealer will keep you a happy customer. Frank.

We have two 345 Deeres one with a 54 and the other with a 48 inch deck. One we bought new the other one used, one has 300 the other about 400 hours. My neighbor has one with 1200 hours, he doesn't mow commercaly but just mows a bunch. Other than nornal matinence, belts, blades, tune ups none of the three have given any trouble. They are the best mowers I've ever owned. Far as price, I would'nt have a clue. Frank.

Peters; We had a Dodge dealership that was generations old with a good reputation in a nearby town. All the older generations died off so it was sold to a real slickster, you talk about a gouger, he was the king. I walked out a couple times on a parts order. Needless to say he did'nt last long, it took the current owner quite a while to get people back but I think he is doing OK by now. Frank.

I've always thought that trailer brakes as we have them today were meant to test ones patience. It never seems to matter whether the truck or trailer was new or old there always is another problem every time you hook up. Take heart sooner or later someone will come up with a new system that eliminates the wiring, the controler, fuses and all that will work all the time. I'm waiting for that too, it may save my religon. Frank.

Ann, they are a neat unit. I've had a 430 that came with the first 4300 tractor I bought. I've since added a 4 in 1 bucket for it, and so far no problems. I don't like to use it more than a big half day without greasing it especialy the lower bucket pivots just to keep the dirt pushed out of them. Just as the biggest bulldozer has it's limits so does your new loader, give it good care and it will last you a long time. Enjoy you new machine. Frank.

Jim' I'm a bit far away to know about auctions in your aeria but here in Iowa the major consignment auctions are held about this time of the year just prior to harvest and again in late winter ahead of planting season. The phone book is probably your best source of auction firms and I'm sure most of them are on the internet also. You have a good piece of equipment and it should bring top dollar.Best of luck. Kyvette; We have a Stanley prehung unit such as you are looking for in steel that fit a 6 ft. opening, I'm not sure if they come any wider. ours have glass with the plastic grid that gives them a nice look. I've had a bit of experience with plywood doors. It did'nt seem to matter how well you sealed the edges the moisture would get in on the bottom edge then they went to pot pretty fast. Best of luck. I had checked the terminals on the temp. sending unit, they were clean and solid. Today I had the thought of replacing the temp guage but a mechanic friend of mine (not a Deere mech.)told me to replace both the sender and a MATCHED guage because tiny differences in the voltage sent or recieved won't match and I'll be worse off than just leaving things alone. I mowed for a couple more hours yesterday after I posted and the guage went to it's usual quarter inch position and stayed there, so guess I'll just leave things be. Frank.

Normando; For the reasons you mention controling a back blade manually is difficult. If you have a loader on the tractor my best method is to drag the dirt to the edge of the dip then use the loader bucket to backdrag the dirt where you want it to be. Being able to see directly what is going on with the loader just makes it a bunch easier. However if you don't have a loader you can acomplish what you want done just as you are diong it but it just takes practice and patience. Lots of luck. Frank.

Land Pride has done a good job for me, I don't use it on the front lawn, just road ditches and farmyards. It would work fine on the front yard but it is too wide to do a real level job. I've got several of their products and all have been top notch. Frank.

I've had a Deere MX5 for several seasons, it has given me no problems at all. I've never tried it on 2" brush, that seems a bit too much for any rotary cutter. I've cut lots of smaller brush and smacked quite a few hidden rocks without any visible damage. A realy light duty cutter may cost you more in the end as it too will find the hidden rocks, etc. that may destroy the cutter. Best of luck. Frank.
