gozarian; Any of the brands you mention will do the things you want to acomplish. I don't know how plentiful dealers of any brand are in your region, but that's a real concern for service and parts down the road. Pick a brand that your comfortable with. Best of luck. Frank.

I've allways liked Land Pride equipment. It's given me good service and their dealership network seems to be well oganized for parts and service. Deere and Woods both make fine equipment too, but I'm just not as famillar with them. They've got a website showing their line of equipment.

funchy; Yes farm field drainage tile are commonly used in our aeria to take away excess water. Long as you have a creek or ditch low enough for the outlet tube a tiling contractor can likely help you out. Depending on the type of soil they are usually about 3-4 ft. deep spaced in paralell lines from 50 to 80 ft. apart. Check with your county extension office, they'll help you finding the people you need. Frank.

Yes a hydro will consume some of your drawbar hp. How much of the time will you be asking your tractor to give it's maximium drawbar hp? If most of the time then gear is for you, If seldom then a hydro likely won't be much less efficent. Personaly I like gears (12/12 Reversers) for shuttle loader work, but that's just my preference. Drive them both, buy what you like best. Best of luck. Frank.

Murf, You don't know what a load you've taken off my mind, so I'll sleep lots better now. In real world I probably don't go more than 2.5 to 3 mph. So being you used 5 mph my wild guess wasn't too far off. Altho I've often thought of the question while doing my mowing (therapy) it really wasn't that important, just kind of a fun way to pass a cold Feb. afternoon. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Just another thought. When we wired the shop the electrican somehow wired the compressor so that it will only run when the shop lights are on. He had just replaced a compresor for his brother that somehow developed a bad leak over a weekend, it just ran till it melted down. Frank.

Dave; I've never been there either, but have a friend who never misses. He goes mainly for the tractor pull, I guess the grand daddy of all pulls is there. Seems like most of the majors, Case IH, Deere, Cat, etc. tend to concentrate on the Farm progress show and Louisville. The Iowa State Fair used to have a big display, but not much last time I was there. Have a good time. Frank.

Broken; we used to put mothballs in tractor and combine cabs over winter, but I guess they aren't too healthy for people so I quit doing that. Deere has a scent pouch that comes in a box of six that you change every month or so. They really don't have an offensive odor and do seem to keep the rodents out. Just a thought. Frank.

wildman2; I think as long as you either pull out the small trees or cut them and dig out the stumps ahead of the box blade you'll do ok. Roots can give a box blade a hard time. Frank.

I don't have any experience with your model tractor, but perhaps something has came loose in the linkage. Does it do the same in reverse? Does it make any unusual noise? Frank.

Broken; I'll have to chime in with AnnBrush, Minwax makes top quality products. The last few years I was in the shop we used them exclusively. I don't remember for sure their web address, it may be on a can, but they will help you any tech questions you have about their products. Frank.

Funchy: Here in north east Iowa the timbered aerias within 30 miles of a major employment city are getting scarce. Some of these aerias that were considered almost worthless 30 yrs. ago after the loggers cleaned out all the good virgin timber now are full of 5 - 10 acre lots with half million dollar homes on them. I know this isn't what you are after, so to find a large enough secluded farm in the midwest you'll have to get away from major citys. We consider 75 to 100,000 a major city, but I realize that on the east and west coast they would be considered a small town. The hometown I grew up next to had 500 people. Frank.

StrmChzr; What size planter do you have now? How many acres of what crops do you want to plant? Grain drills are mainly for cerial grains, wheat, oats, rye, barley, etc. Corn planters can plant many other coarse grain crops, corn, soybeans, milo, etc. The only advantege for bigger planters or drills is to complete more acres per hour, the disadvantage is that the bigger they get the more they cost. labatt1; R-1 tires would be better for snow than R-4's or turf tires. Unless your lawn is really soft the R-4's won't hurt it, R-1's can leave a tread imprint in the turf. Turf's on wet grass or mud are almost helpless, so my choice is the R-4's, I've never regretted having them. Frank.

I'm sure any close dealer will take care of your problem probably including pick up and delivery, NH is'nt going to take a chance on a tractor with a safetry hazzard being on the loose. Warantys can be decieving now and then, for example the waranty on the furnace in the house we live in. I'll be the first to admit I did'nt read the fine print in the warranty statement. I just assumed that 5 year waranty meant parts and labor, in reallity within 2 years the dealer called that they were coming to install a new heat exchanger that the originals posed a safety hazzard. The service people came installed the exchanger and a week or so later I get a big fat labor bill so called the dealer. He simply said read your warranty, it doesn't include labor only parts, too bad send the money. I did, but I sure won't buy from him again. I guess we just trust people a bit too far sometimes. Stang2tuff; I'm sure if you went back far enough on this thread you'd find one of my sermons on dealers. All three, Blue, Orange and Green have good tractors, but more important than the color is a good dealership to take care of any problems that can arise later with any brand. Try to stay local, long distance service work can be a pain. There are lots of good dealers and a few stinkers too, spend a little time finding your choice in dealers and you'll like what ever color they sell. Just another tip, an old friend of mine used to have a saying, "The cheapest ain't allways the cheapest". Good luck. Frank.

It's been several years since I've had a Farmall painted, but the man who did the painting allways insisted on having the paint and the primer from CaseIH. For some reason he did'nt like auto store paint. Some of the IH impliments that were used on the old Farmall Letter series (C's, H's, M's etc.) had part of the componets painted blue. The last time I bought paint from CaseIH the blue was no longer available, but I was told Big A, or NAPA had the correct formula. Frank.

LittleRedHen; You'll have to ask someone much more familiar with Kobotas, but I don't think towing is a good option. Most modern tractors rely on pressure lubrication for the transmission and final drive componets so unless you left the motor running I think you could have some problems. Unless you plan on taking other heavy things along I think an ordinary car trailer would be a much safer way. Not being in a metro aeria I just drive mine, five or six miles don't take long.
