Mig is the only way to go once you know how and make sure you get a big enough one. If It can't penetrate the metal then there is no purpose. I had an important weld break on some 1/4" steel because the little 90amp Mig didn't penetrate enough so I had to go back to the Ol' sticker and redo it with a little more power 230amps. A 175AMP Mig should do 1/4 no problem. The MILLERMATIC 175 is a $upreme unit. Remember, you get what you pay for.

couldn't agree with bruce more. I don't know how much more advantage you get with chains on ags but with turfs it is everything. If you want a smoother ride weld in alot more cross links so there is about 2-3 inches between crosslinks. Better traction and ride. Run chains on all fours if 4wd and you can go through almost anything.

I am going to buy some R-1 tires for my 870
Is there any brands to look out for, what ply ratings are good. I was thinking 14.9x24 in back and 8x16 up front.
Are there any superior stores to buy them from? Nebraskatire sells 14.9x24 for 150 apiece for 6ply

George, since you got the tractor you might as well put it to use. I have a badass homemade one that turns a 25gpm
pump with no problem. You can split anything at idle speed faster and more powerfully than any stand alone. I have never had anything close to stopping it. For fun A friend and I put a 3ft dia. oak on it and it just blew it apart. Quite impressive. The only downside is long range transportation. Don't let your 32 horses go to waste.

Hi I made a 3-pt log splitter and am considering selling it. It has a prince 25gpm pump with a 4x24 cylinder and a 23 gallon fully custom aluminum reservior(best heat dissipation). It is the nicest and best built log splitter you will ever see. Seriously it is awsome. I am running it on an 870 (same as the 4300). Let me know if you are interestred.

Hey look at www.loflinfabrication.com at their root grapples.

I built a 7ft. one for a 97 Jd870 and It works great. It opens about 5ft. wide.
