Yup same Valmet Company of Finland. First tractors were built in the armory,used cannon barels for tranny cases. Now called Valtra and owned by AGCO.

Landini makes good dependable middle of the price range tractors. Owned by Argo,as is McCormick. Massey Ferguson did own Landini from the 60s until the late 80s or so. the Buhler deal is to supply badge-engineered Genesis tractors for European sales in Landini blue.

The parent company that Eicher India originally came from were very well known for air cooled engines,and dependable tractors of their own design.

As for the Euro 6100 series from Eicher. It is a licensed copy of the Valmet 365,and does come in mfd along with twd. I've not had a chance to see the Eicher copy yet,but the original is one heck of an economy level utility tractor !! Very well engineered and dependable,as are all the Valmet,and now Valtra tractor offerings.

Long does not manufacture tractors. They sell what is known as badge-engineered tractors,built by someone else with Long's name on them. The 2610 is from Universal (UTB) of Romania. They do have some problems with bolts coming loose from time to time,especially when loaders are installed. How many hours on this tractor? When was the last time you tightened the loader frame mounting bolts? What about the tranny bellhousing to engine block bolts?

I have seen just about every brand of non-framed tractor come apart over the years on loader use,when the bolts were not checked and retightened over the years.

In that price range I'd look for an older ag-utility tractor of around 30-40 horse or so.

I'm having trouble trying to understand the higher prices on the Agco CUTs. The Mahindra would be my choice,then the Century. Both are good tractors.

The front tread width is adjustable on mfd utility tractors. You might not have as many choices as a 2wd,but you do have some.

Do not sell the Korean offerings short. Mahindra,and Century/Branson have vbery good tractors to choose from.

Technically a "Gray" is a tractor that was not intended to be sold in North America,but has been imported here as a used tractor. Iseki,Yanmar,Hinomoto,Shibaura,etc are all gray market tractors. Most are also sold badge-engineered by a major brand here in N.A. There are some models to stay away from,but most are just as good as is sold by the majors at a much lower price. Thanks guys.

After a test drive,I've decided to pass on this truck. It needs way too much work to pay anything over $1000 for it. The tranny grinds going into 2nd no matter which speed or RPM. The transfercase will not shift into neutral or low. The dealer wants $4000 for it and says it needs: Brake drums,rotors,lines,shoes,pads,hardware kits and e-brake cables. Also tie rods,ball joints and all U-joints replaced. Seems the previous owner only drove it and put gas in it. I talked to the mechanic that checked it over and he said the oil was like molasses,and the filter was about rusted through!!

I do believe that the SS that is refered to above is "Super Steer" It is a type of mfd front axle found only on New Holland tractors for sharper turning.

Well then be sure and report back!! The biggest mistake made by a lot of tractor purchasers is over looking the other smaller independant brands out there no matter what size you are looking for.

All hst trannies loose some pto effiency,but it is a trade off for ease of use. I've not seen the actual specs on the Kioti yet,but most hst losses are in the 1 to 1.5 hp range over gear drives. Which is not really all that much in the real world,even though the stats might say different!

Many factors could be coming into play here. Cost of doing business,market size,competition,and most of all "what the market will bear"as far as prices go.

It's the same scenario though with new and used prices on CUTs or Ag-tractors in different regions of the country. Some sell for more here than there,always have always will!!

I agree with Mark on a bigger tractor for your needs. I'd go with a real Utility tractor not a CUT. Mahindra has some really good models with their new "00" series.

As for the Beltech,they are great for rocky ground. I've seen them for around $4,000 or so. PTO augers work the best first thing in the spring until about the end of May. Once the ground starts to dry up,you'll have problems drilling in rocky soils.

I'd not suggest a post driver unless you get the type that will also drill a pilot hole first. I had a Shaver and was not impressed with it at all in my rocky soils. I went back to a pto powered auger and just dig out what rocks I can,or move the hole if I have too. Some holes must be dug with a backhoe though. Just something you learn to live with around here.
