Not much I can add to the last post except to say that we have a big problem here when most people (except for the folks who operate their own farm equipment :)) look at the government as a father-figure whose job it is to bail you out of trouble every time you screw up. In the good old days, people were smart enough to live on high ground to avoid floods; now Uncle Sam will bail these folks out every time the water comes up to their roofs. Hey, it's only taxpayer's money, who cares.

I have a 3-year old JD L120. The wire the engages the PTO broke 4 times this summer. My wallet is $250 thinner as a result (the dealer paid for 2 of the repairs as they were under his warranty). Then it cost me $900 to replace the mowing deck and the spindle (my fault - I ran over a stump). But $900 for a mowing deck? that's the price of an entry level Craftsman! If I had to buy a mower for a 1 acre lot, I wouldn't be seduced by the JD badge on a Briggs and Stratton engine and instead go for a plain Craftsman.

Thanks for your help. How does JD790 compare with Kubota B7800 with respect to their reliablity? One reason I'm considering a Kubota is that I dumped around $1500 in repair cost over 3 years on a JD L120 mower - I could have bought a brand new mower for that money and avoided a lot of aggravation. I know I'm comparing apples and oranges when talking about L120 and JD790, but this experience kind of poisoned my opinion about JD.

I just bought a b7500 hst. 4by4 with a loader and a60 in mid deck and a rear 54 in blower brand new 13,975.00

very pleased about 2,000 less than a deere 4100
