do you know how to drain the block on your 955? I can not find a drain plug and the manual does not show the location for the 955, only the 755 and 855.

I have a Lenar 274 and also had a problem with it not going into 4wd. I called the dealer and they sent someone right out. It turns out that the lever is held in or out of 4wd by a "detent and ball" mechanism. He reached up under the fender and sqirted some wd-40 on the ball and had it working perfectly in about 15 seconds. He said it was a common problem on new units because the ball seats to well in the detent. I have had no problem since. Hope it helps you.

Manual calls it a group 45 but I am having a tough time matching it up with a DEKA. Would love to buy Deka since they are made 30min away. Sealed lead acid looks like the way to go as someone said that GEls dont the have the starting power. They are more of a Deep cycle battery... The DEKA grp45 is too big...Can anyone post what brand and model of a Sealed battery they put in a Boomer?....thanks

Dubber, stability is fine, I wondered about any awkward handling on one side vs the other. I took delivery today of another Acrease C60K and hooked it off the left to the other wing. A short test run showed no problems. No- I dont get a stripe when turning with the one wing I'll have to wait for the grass to grow to see if 2 wings leave any missed areas. Turning left with the wing on the left lets you spin around trees like a ZRT mower. I'll put the clock to it and see how much time the 15ft cuts off the 10ft cut. I played with a neighbors Lazer ZRT $8000 mowing chair the other day and skidded out of control on my steeper hill into the woods. I've done the same stupid move on the tractor when I forgot to engage 4wd on moist ground. Its much better plowing through brush and trees belted to the Boomer with the frt axle and motor in front of me than careening down a hill on a chair strapped to a mowing deck- reminds me af some type of cartoon!

Where are the drain plug or plugs to drain the gear oil on the 914A mid mount Boomer deck? I think the fill hole is on top.Manual shows no diagram of fill or drain holes..Could they be the Hex head fitting on the side?? Any tips on blade removal. Do you need that spanner wrench the manual suggests?.thanks

My NH dealer took a look at my TC33D front turf tires after 225hrs and said "you know we now put a different size on to reduce tire wear".He replaced stock 25x8.50-14 with 24x8.50-14.My wear was acceptable as I am on grass mostly.No major scuffing with the SS.Now with loader work I am rolling off the sidewall almost. Increased pressure from high teens to 30 per dealer(max is 22) and ride is harsher. Mid deck is smackin everything in sight because Its lower now. And I think the rear inside tire may be scuffing more than before on sharp turns. Dealer said the Titan 25X8.5 was the wrong ratio for the rear in 4WD. I see no real benefit and miss my ground clearance and dont care about about tire wear on grass. Has anyone been through this problem- I would like my old tires back. BTW -235 hrs and no problems, awesome machine......

I saw a three point log splitter at the Tractor Supply Company on Tuesday for about $575, new. It certainly got my attention :-)

Last spring I changed the hydro fluid in my TC-33D to synthetic for ?longevity reasons and to quiet that cold weather squeal. Well it finally got cold here again since the change and it did not squeal. NNot a cheap fix but I am satisfied. New Holand petro hydro fluid would have cost about $30, the Amsoil I put in cost $150. I was a skeptic when others reported the squeal went away with synth. I am anxious to see if I get full loader power ice cold. Last winter the loader was sluggish until the fluid started getting some heat in it.

Thanks very much for the responses and advice. I think that going the used route is an excellent approach to getting a well configured tractor. I had been looking for a JD4020 but the asking prices just seem way out of line for a 25 year old tractor.

In fact, my original research was for Kubotas. I have a Kubota lawn tractor that is a real joy to operate. I have never had a disappointing day with it. Then again, I was only cutting an acre of residential lawn :-)

The explanation and distinction about compact tractors and utility tractors is very informative and appreciated. To be honest, I bet that I spend more time bush hogging and moving manure than almost anything else. The front loader is essential, to me.

As for 2WD v 4WD, I was surprised to learn of so much enthusiasm and importance of 4WD when using a loader. Thanks for telling me.

I have little doubt that a compact tractor can be equipped with the necessary components for about $20,000. The JD5105 with 4WD and other goodies will probably turn into $25,000. Guess I will keep on reading, researching and learning for a while.
