I looked at a Ford NH 3415 with 7309 loader today and I had a couple of questions:Would this be a comparable model to a jd 1070? That is the other machine I have been looking at and I was hoping to compare apples to apples. The 3415 I drove today is a '96 model with 280 hours. It looks brand new. When I started the tractor cold today (it had not been driven for about a week) the clutch would not engage but after warming up a minute or two it struggled into gear and I moved dirt and drove around for 30-45 minutes without any shifting problems. Could this be a result of sitting for a while. With 280 hours on a 96 model it couldn't have been driven much in the last few years. Also the pto lever seems to have three shifting positions: 1)engaged=forward= tractor won't start in this position, 2)neutral=middle=tractor will start in this position 3)?=back or rearward position=engine wont' start in this position. After I left I was wondering if this could be like a ground speed pto position or there be a problem? An older Ford 3000 had three positions for its pto but did not have ground speed pto.I really like this tractor but I don't want to fall in love with it if this model is known for some kind of problems. I don't see as many of them as I do 1700 or 1900 series. My last price was quoted at $14000. Is that reasonable? Thanks for any input on this machine.

I really like the 3415, I'm going to make an honest effort to trade my Kubota L2350 for a new one tomorrow. What I like about the tractor is the weight about 3500 lbs which is almost to the starting point for AG tractors (MF 231= 4000Lbs). Also I am selecting it over the Kubota 4310 (did like the Kubota shuttle shift) because it will widen to two row configuration (76"), very handle for pea, sweet corn patches, & etc. It is also rated to handle hay equipment. I checked three dealers within a 60 mile area, all three ask $13000 for the tractor new with the large AG tires. The dealer nearest me says he will trade for my Kubota (Found some that would not), he has a 3415 still in the crate, if we can strike a chord, I'm going to write the check on the spot. These tractors are made in Japan, I don't know who by, the Boomers are Fiats made in Italy I think. I had rather have the Japanese product. I have searched the West Tennessee area over, there are no used for sale 3415 tractors around. These are just my opinions, others will no doubt beg to differ. ....

Since you are wanting more weight I was just wondering why you aren't looking at a small used ag tractor (MF 35, JD 2040, Ford 3000)which are much more readily available and less $ than the compacts, especially a new one. ....

BobI thought of that too, but I have not been able to find a nice used AG tractor for sale by an individual or on a dealers lot around here. Something has happened to cause that size tractor to be scarce in this area. The people that have them don't want to sell them. I did find some NH 3930 models, but they are priced around $15000. I wanted a new tractor, I plan to retire back to the farm next year, this will be the last tractor for me.Anyway its not a problem now, I traded for a new still in the box NH 3415 this morning. Considering what I had in my Kubota, I got the 3415 for $12265 complete with canoply and the large AG tires (14.9-26), so I'm well pleased. Does anyone know who makes the NH 20 series tractors? I know they are made in Japan, but not who by.Thanks for the reply ....
