Compare JD 4310 to Kubota 2910HSD

I am planning to buy a small tractor like either the JD 4310 or the Kubota B2910HSD. I will also need a front loader and a mower to handle about 10 acres with hills and trees. The Deere is about $1500 more than the Kubota, both fully equipped. What are your opinions of the two?

I just went thought this same thing. I went with the B7800. I didn't think the extra money was worth the 2910 features. Also their was a B7800 sitting on the lot and I go a good deal on it. I personally didn't like the JD. I didn't like all of the electronic PTO and hydrostat items. I was worried about long term durability. I also didn’t like the fact that both PTO’s have to be on to use the middle one. The JD was also a little larger than I wanted. If you want a larger machine then go with the JD. I also looked at the NH 33D. It was my second favorite after the Kubota. I like the clutch on the Kubota and the NH. The JD doesn’t have this feature.. ....

Thanks. You picked out a couple of things I had not looked at. I am looking for a larger capacity - both weight and volume - in the loader. I know the older Deere's have lasted and held up to their reputation, but I was not sure about the newer ones. The Deere appears to have a higher load rating than the Kubota, and that may be the deciding point. I guess the other possibilty would be to go to a larger Kubota. ....

Take a really close look at the loader spec.'s. Different manufacturers use different 'yard sticks' to measure loader performance so that their unit looks more powerful. Very seldom will you see an 'apples to apples' comparison between manufacturers.

The most common tricks are to 1) vary the point at which the measurement is taken, the closer in you can take the measurement the stronger it will look, and 2) doing calculations based on spec.'s that aren't realistic, such as basing lift capacity on 2,500psi in the hydraulic system when the relief valve is set at 2,000psi on production units.

The other point to consider is, maximum ratings are just that, MAXIMUMS, if you are going to be lifting 1,500 pounds ina single lift on a regular basis you would never buy a loader rated at 1,500 pounds MAXIMUM capacity, it certainly wouldn't last very long under those conditions.
