I am looking for a compact tractor (mainly ford and JD) and today stopped at a Cub dealer to look around. Is it common to have the right and left brake pedals and the hydro pedal on the same side? I have heard something about this on Kubota tractors but I have not looked at one since there are no dealers nearby. I am no means a tractor expert but does this really make sense? I guess you could learn to live with it but I just don't get it.

Your observation is right. Having the brake (steering) pedals on the same side as the foot hydro controls does not make good ergonomic sense. JD hydro compact tractors have the hydro controlled by the right foot and the steering brakes controlled by the left. (The panic and parking brake is on the right.) ....

There is some talk about this up top also, but I'll reply down here. When I started shopping for a new compact, I asked the same question to NH, bota, and other dealers. They all said that with a hydro, I wouldn't really need or use brake assists. I was skeptical because I used to do blade, loader and mowing work for a neighbor with tons of scattered trees. I was always stomping a brake to make the sharp turns. Well, I got my Boomer, and lo and behold, I ain't missed a step. Tried it a couple times in the beginning (old habits) and just swung my left foot over to help with pedal (left turns were just as easy to do with one foot.)Just another point of view. ....

See my comments a few threads up. With the cruise lever the brakes are not a problem for turning, and for everythibng else simply releasing the hydr pedal stops the tractor NOW. Not a reason to avoid orange all else being equal. ....
