I am considering buying a 1030 massey.I'm very green on the subject of tractors so any info would help. The owner told me it's about 10 years old, 32hp 3 cylinder perkins diesel,4wd, 540 pto, on turf tires,frey loader,5ft finishing mower and rototiller.it has about 5000hrs on it he's asking $12500.00 canadian-that's about $7800.00 U.S.
When I check this tractor out all I find is 23hp japanese engines..can anyone help me? What is the real hp and engine make and are these reliable tractors?

The small Masseys are definately Japanese. Mostly Iseki and Toyosho. I would say you are about right with 23HP. Only the bigger Masseys have Perkins engines. I can't say what your market is, but I would keep looking. It's not uncommon to find small tractors that age with 1000 hrs or less.

I had a 1020 m.f. with over 1000 hours on it and it ran great no troubles ever. It was just over 20 h.p. and the 1030 was just over 30 h.p.. In Flint, MI area the compact 4x4 with loaders don't seem to go below $8000.00. I think they were made in the mid to late 80's.
